Dr. Sopel first started practicing dentistry in 1980, and since that time, he has never stopped learning. New dental techniques, technology, and materials are being developed all the time, and Dr. Sopel makes sure that the ones we use in our dental office are all supported by rigorous scientific testing. Rather than simply using the newest treatment because its fresh on the market, he takes the effort to really look into everything so he can offer it to patients with full confidence. Whatever he recommends for your smile, you can trust hes gone above and beyond when it comes to due diligence.
For many people, going to the dentist is a chore, and thats largely due to the dull dental office environment youll find at most dental offices. While we take dentistry very seriously, we like to have fun and create a light, friendly atmosphere that makes our team eager to come to work every day. This enthusiasm can be heard throughout our dental office in the form of laughter, and youll be amazed at how easy and enjoyable a trip to the dentist can really be.
Dr. Sopel always puts people ahead of profit, so when it comes to your dental care, hell only recommend treatments that you absolutely need to meet your smile goals. He wont push you to get a procedure you dont really want, and hell always air on the side of being more conservative. By doing everything he can to protect your natural teeth, he helps our patients enjoy stronger and healthier smiles while saving them time and money in our dental office.
After attended St. Anselms College for his undergraduate degree, Dr. Sopel chose to attend Tufts School of Dental Medicine for his doctorate. After graduating in 1980, he pursued additional training in the form of a General Practice Residency program as a member of the United States Army, working at Irwin Army Hospital in Fort Riley, KS. Throughout his 27 years of military service, he served as Lieutenant Colonel in Korea, Honduras, Canada, Kuwait, and many bases throughout the US.
Dr. Sopel is very proud to work on the hardest substance in the human body, and he cant imagine any other career but his current one. It allows him to express his artistic side, and theres never an end to the new knowledge, technologies, and techniques that are always being expanded on in the vast world of dentistry. Simply put, you never stop learning!
Originally from Manchester, NH, Dr. Sopel is married and has three grown children James is a manager at Wolfgang Pucks restaurant in Honolulu, Erika is attending business school in Oregon, and Jack currently attends Texas A&M. His hobbies in his free time include playing golf, hiking, and scuba diving.
Gloria finds it so gratifying to work with the Horseshoe Bay Dental team and enjoys constantly learning in order to provide patients with the best experience and quality of care possible. She studied at Northern Essex College and has her Associates of Science in Physical Therapy. In the past, shes worked as a medic in the United States Army and an operating room attendant.
Outside of the practice, Gloria is the proud mother of three grown children. She spends her free time skiing, hiking, and playing golf. She also used to show reining horses, which is one of her all-time favorite experiences!
Diana originally hails from Ingleside. She is a Registered Dental Assistant and certified in nitrous oxide monitoring. What she enjoys most about her position is being able to help people learn so much about the importance of dental health!
Outside of work, Diana spends lots of quality time with her four grown children, seven grandchildren, and one special great-grandchild. She also enjoys crocheting, cross stitching, watching movies, and reading a good book. She considers herself a very loyal and caring person.
As one of our newest additions to the team, Jed enjoys meeting both our existing and new patients and building trusting relationships with them every day. After graduating from Faith Academy in Marble Falls, he attended the University of Iowa, where he majored in communications.
Originally from Spicewood, TX, Jed enjoys reading and writing and spending time with his mom, dad, and two sisters. An interesting fact about Jed is that his shoulders are double jointed, so he can bring his arms all the way around his body and step through them.

I drive from west Austin to see Dr. Soppel now! His technology allows for him to see exactly what is going on in your mouth. I had had a dentist tell me I needed two root canals, when in fact, I just had two cavities! He was thorough, gentle, listened to me, and took the time to answer my questions. I was blown away by Dr. Soppel and his staff - they truly took care of me. And they were able to help guide me in ways other than flossing and brushing to help take care of my teeth! I won't even entertain the idea of having anyone else take care of my dental needs from now on! So thankful I found him.

The staff was great. Very welcoming and friendly, which started with Lauren in the front office. The dentist was very nice and informative. He provided excellent service and I will be coming here for all my future dental needs!

My husband just went in to have two crowns replaced. With Dr Sopel's advanced lab equipment, everything was done in one easy visit--No waiting for materials to return from some distant lab. My crowns are now a perfect fit, with no rough or worn edges. No one loves visiting the dentist, but Dr. Sopel is accommodating, and makes it as efficient and pleasant as possible.

I recently became eligible for Medicare and switched some of my medical providers. I have always taken care of my dental needs and always had good dental care but a lot of my teeth were wore out and I have broken a few in the last decade or so. Horseshoe Bay Dental was in my new network so I gave them a try and expected to continue as I have in the past. In the last couple of years I have tried to chew more cautiously and exclude foods that are likely to break teeth as implants are a months long process costing about $3000. I didn't tell Dr. Sopel any of this as I just thought that was my reality. Who knew that so much could be accomplished with fillings? At my initial visit, Dr. Sopel picked out 7 of my teeth that were thin, one chipped, some with old likely to fail fillings and presented a plan that was inexpensive and has greatly improved my bite; sort of like strong new teeth. Horseshoe Bay Dental will also offer a great deal of guidance for future preventative tooth care. It is a well thought out daily routine.

After we moved to Horseshoe Bay, we still held on to our doctors in San Antonio. Slowly we are cutting the cord and discovering the options here. So glad we found Horseshoe Bay Dental. Hubby and I loved everything about our experience!

Had a wisdom tooth that was causing extreme pain and was seen by the doctor for 4 minutes given some Ibuprofen and Tylenol and hit with a 138$ bill. This doctor is a complete joke

New patient for Dr Sopel after moving to the area. He recommended a filling replacement and took photos to show me why. I agreed. At 67 I still dread going to the dentist but this was the best procedure I have ever had. From topical anesthetic to make the Novocain painless. Brilliant! I felt nothing with the drilling to remove the old filling. For me, best dental experience ever!

i have been a patient of dr. sopel for many years... i work for horseshoe bay resort and our dental insurance is delta dental... well delta dental has gotten so out of control that most of dentists in the area quit taking it, including dr. sopel... dr. sopel genuinely cares about his patients and he has never tried to sell me on something i did not need... thank you for keeping my teeth healthy and functional for all these years... i am going to miss you and your pleasant staff...

I've been a patient of Dr. Sopel for several years now and have been very satisfied. He recently performed a root canal and the end result was awesome. His staff is very outgoing, helpful and friendly. Mika is exceptional and certainly help me ease my fear of dentistry. They are the best!!!
