Dr. Horbaly has practiced orthodontics in Charlottesville since 1996, with satellite offices located in Palmyra and Dillwyn. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his doctorate degree from the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Horbaly completed a general practice residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California and two additional tours with the Seabees. Dr. Horbaly earned his master's degree and specialty certification in pediatric dentistry from the Columbus Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University, and earned a master's degree and specialty certification in orthodontics from the University of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Horbaly is an Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Virginia Health Systems Department of Dentistry where he mentors dental residents and is a member of the University's Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Team. At the University clinic, Dr. Horbaly provides orthodontic services for cleft lip and palate patients, patients with craniofacial disorders and medically compromised patients.
Dr. Horbaly served eight years in orthodontic leadership positions and is a past president of the Virginia Association of Orthodontists and past Director for the Virginia Component of the Southern Association of Orthodontists. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association and the Medical College of Virginia Orthodontic Research and Education Foundation.
Outside the office, we are parents, community volunteers, and fun-loving individuals from Charlottesville, Earlysville, Dillwyn, Palmyra, Augusta, Greene, and Nelson counties. When we are in the office, YOU are our first priority. In our combined efforts, we strive to provide you the professional and caring experience you deserve. Through continuing education courses and seminars our team remains informed of the very latest in orthodontic technologies and advances. We are raving fans! All of our kids have had exams - some ended up with braces and some they told us simply weren't needed. We trust them completely. Dr. Horbaly is so knowledgeable and really cares. The staff are all so friendly and flexible. They make scheduling, billing/insurance, etc. all seem easy, even though I know it's not. It's a joy to visit or talk with them. Did I mention the cutest dog in the world will hang out during your appt? Don't go anywhere else!

The whole team here was awesome. I am from out of town on vacation and my daughters braces broke to where it was poking her gums. I called them the next morning when they were open and explained the situation and they were very sympathetic and offered an appointment for us to come in. All the staff we met were great and I appreciate it very much. Thanks for getting us out of a bind! Would highly recommend.

My youngest son is half way through is orthodontic treatment. My oldest son just had his braces taken off in September 2019 and his teeth look great. He gets complimented on his smile often. Great staff and treatment. We appreciated the conservative approach. Dr. Horbaly followed both boys for a couple of years before starting treatment, monitoring their overall growth, not just looking in their mouth. No pulling of teeth or early treatment. Great approach, I highly recommend him to anyone in need of orthodontic care. He has a track record of not having to do braces a second time. You will not be disappointed!

The staff were so friendly and efficient! Everything was explained at a level I understood but I didn't feel talked down to. All around just a good experience. They do have rescue dogs in the office, but checked with our comfort level before letting us interact. We love dogs and this was a big hit with my son. This visit was a consultation, which was completely free of charge, even with x-rays! They made a recommendation that involved dental but not orthodontic work, and scheduled a follow up that will also be free of charge. I'm not sure if this is standard practice everywhere but I am a fan.

Our expereince with the team at Horbaly Orthodontics was outstanding. My daughter just completed her orthodontic treatment, something we did not believe she would be able to do. She has a very sensitive gag reflex that has caused her some anxiety with dental and orthodontic treatment. The first orthodontist we went to left her in tears and discouraged. The entire team at Horbaly Orthodontics showed compassion and patience with her and encouraged her ever step of the way through her treatment. She could not have completed the entire orthodontic treatment without their guidance and understanding. Today, she is confident and proud of her new beautiful smile. We appriciate all of their help through my daughter's orthodontic journey.
