I was provided with a thorough examination and then Dr. Hooie showed me a detailed account of my dental condition with electronic photographs and X-ray images. Together, we embarked upon a plan that would address my issues and provide me with the care that I need to sustain my teeth long into the foreseeable future. The latest, modern technology equipment that he uses has both impressed and amazed me and that, combined with his his professional skill and genuine concern for my well-being is unsurpassed. During his six years of active duty in the United States Navy, Dr. Hooie completed his dental residency, traveling worldwide while seeking out local dentists in his spare time to see and understand how they helped patients. After transitioning to the Naval Reserves as a Lieutenant Commander, Dr. Hooie brought his breadth of new knowledge to Middle Tennessee, where he practiced as an associate before opening his own dental office in Crossville in 1995.

He loves the area and all of the diverse people who call it home. Dr. Hooie and his team have enjoyed working with local charitable organizations to help out in the community. Hes been involved with Christmas on the Mountain and Shop with Cops to purchase and provide holiday gifts and supplies for needy families. Hooie Dental has also been home to Free Dental Day, offered annually in the fall, where residents can enjoy complimentary, compassionate dentistry in Crossville.

Dr. Hooie has also devoted over 40 years to Scouting VSA (originally The Boy Scouts of America). He travels alongside his wife, an ordained minister and LPN, on missionary work across American borders. Together, the couple has completed five medical mission trips to Guatemala, assisting close to 2000 patients in only five days.

Dr. Donald Hooie graduated with honors in Memphis from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1987. Each year, Dr. Hooie continues his general dentistry education with some of the most well-known clinicians in the country, focusing on teeth whitening, veneers, dentures, implants, crowns and bridges, composite white fillings, non-surgical gum disease care, single-visit root canals, laser dentistry, clear aligner adult orthodontics, and preventive dentistry such as thorough dental cleanings, and oral cancer screening

Throughout his career, Dr. Hooie has completed approximately 15,000 hours of continuing education, averaging nearly 60 hours per year. His experience was gained while Dr. Hooie was completing his general practice residency at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. He treated a variety of patients and their needs while also handling sedation and general anesthesia for the medical team. After six years in the United States Navy, Dr. Hooie transitioned to the Naval Reserves as a Lieutenant Commander. He then started his own practice, fulfilling his dream of becoming a helpful, hometown dentist just like the doctor he saw as a child. He was drawn to dentistry because of how much he enjoyed helping people. However, Dr. Hooie also loved dental technology and tools which is still evident in his Crossville dental office today.

Dr. Hooies memberships include the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association, the Crossville Dental Society, the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics, DOCS Education, American Legion, and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. He is highly involved in helping those without access to quality dental care. He has provided care with Remote Area Medical, the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico, the Kuna Indian Reservation in Panama, and with Servant Ministries in Guatemala. Dr. Hooie also sponsors a Free Dental Day in Crossville for locals experiencing smile issues. You might notice his name and office around town as a sponsor for local basketball, baseball, T-ball, soccer, volleyball, marching band, JROTC, and Young Marines organizations. Hes also a Habitat for Humanity sponsor.

When not in the office, Dr. Hooie is an affiliate member of the Crossville Lions Club, where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow and formerly served as president, vice-president, and secretary. He holds many positions in local Boy Scouting and has been a scout leader for over 40 years. Hes an Eagle Scout with both the Woodbadge and Silver Beaver Award. In his spare time, Dr. Hooie spends time with his family, which includes his wife Shalena and their extended family. He also enjoys canoeing, kayaking, climbing/rappelling, hiking, jeeps, and history.

Shalena was raised in Graham, TX, before later relocating to the Crossville area. She graduated from North Central Texas College with honors and is an LPN. Shalena is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She has advanced training in N20 monitoring, ACLS certification, and is also cross-trained as an orthodontic assistant.

Shalenas love for dentistry started when she was in high school, working for her family dentist in the sterilization department, and she said her love for dentistry grew from there. She enjoys educating patients about oral health and believes that creating a healthy environment in your mouth leads to improved overall health.

When you meet Shalena, youll find that shes energetic, passionate, an overcomer, persistent, and caring. She enjoys giving back to the community and participating in missions alongside her husband Dr. Donald Hooie. Theyve been involved with multiple mission trips to Mexico, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. When she isnt at work, Shalena can usually be found enjoying the outdoors with her husband, hiking, kayaking/canoeing, all kinds of water activities, traveling, doing Scouting BSA, and volunteering with church activities.

When asked what she loves most about working at Hooie Dental, Amber says she loves knowing that everyone is providing quality dentistry while also making a real difference in someones life. Amber didnt necessarily choose dentistry for herself, she says her mom thought it would be a good fit. (Turns out she was right!) When you have the pleasure of working with Amber, youll find that shes curious, eager, receptive, collaborative, and genuine.

Outside of the office, Amber is busy raising two boys alongside her husband. She enjoys being with them, spending quality time, and making lasting memories. Amber also likes forcing her husband to go on new, exciting adventures.

Mary Ann graduated from Roane State Community College with honors in 2005. Shes certified in the administration of both local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. Mary Ann has been involved in dentistry for well over a decade and has been with Hooie Dental since 2005. She started working for a dental office during her senior year of high school at the young age of 17. Today, shes our beloved hygiene director, which gives her the opportunity to positively impact our patients smiles and their lives.

Mary Ann says she became interested in learning more about dentistry from an early age. She says its been a blessing to work in the community she grew up in and loves. Working in our office is a unique experience for Mary Ann because of our ability to help a patient get the smile theyve always wanted with the effective options they deserve. Working with Mary Ann, youll quickly understand why our team members and patients love her. Shes friendly, attentive, considerate, adventurous, and resilient.

Mary Ann has completed volunteer dental work for the community, supported the Cumberland County Rescue Squad, raised money for the local Salvation Army, and collected donations for child burn survivors to attend Camp Hope. This is a charity thats special to her because Mary Anns husband works in the fire service. When shes not working, Mary Ann enjoys being with family and friends, horseback riding, motorcycling, camping, and traveling.

A huge thank you to Dr. Hooie for his patience, kindness, and a great sense of humor during my recent dental procedure. My entire life, Ive never had a dentist who could numb me enough so that I did not feel extreme pain while having dental work until I went to Dr. Hooie. I didnt feel a thing! Great job and I cannot thank him enough. Imagine my surprise when I received a call from Dr. Hooie himself later that same day to make sure I was doing okay! Great care and a great staff!!!
