Andy Thompson has lived in Cookeville since he was fifteen years old. He has traveled a lotand he thinks that there is no better place in the world to live than Cookeville, Tennessee! Thereare four beautiful seasons here with lots of outdoor opportunities and we get to share it withsome of the best folks in the country.
Andy attended high school in Cookeville and attained an engineering degree at TTU prior toserving two years in the army as a combat engineer. After a short stint as an industrial engineer,he attended dental school at the University of Tennessee and immediately started his dentalpractice in Cookeville.
Andy was very honored to be voted Dentist of the Year for 2017 by the Herald Citizenreaders. He thinks that Hometown Family Dentistry absolutely has the best patients around.Many of them have been with the practice since it was started in 1979. They are truly likefamily and it is a joy to serve them.
In addition to wonderful patients and dentists, there is an awesome ,well trained, caring staffthat rounds out the team. Quality dentistry and a well run office would not be possible withoutthese amazing ladies.
When hes not at the office, he loves to spend his time outdoors: hunting, fishing, and playingbasketball. He spends his free time with his family and keeping up with college sports.He attends Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where his parents and grandparents havebeen members for decades.
John Wesley is a 2009 graduate of Smith County High School in Carthage, Tn. He earned a BSin Biology Health Science in 2013 from Tennessee Tech University here in Cookeville. In 2017,he graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine Degree from the University of KentuckyCollege on Dentistry in Lexington, KY.
In his years in dental school, John Wesley, along with Dr. Matthew and some of their friends,founded the Life and Dentistry Podcast where they explore the ins and outs of dentistry as itblends with everyday life. Their episodes have been downloaded all across the country. Theyhost an annual continuing education conference where they discuss and learn new concepts inthe world of dentistry.
He has been blessed to take this journey with Dr. Matthew. Their friendship has provided themboth support through all of lifes ups and downs, teaching them the value of relationships. Theywere both raised to appreciate people, give back to the community, and lend a helping handwhen needed.
Dr. Andy has proved to be a mentor to both Dr. John Wesley and Dr. Matthew. Hes offeredthem guidance and wisdom while handing over the reigns to a practice hes spent decadesgrowing. The transition has been seamless thanks to him and the staff: the lovely ladies whokeep everything smooth sailing. They are a joy to work with and light up the office every day.
Matthew was born and raised in Jackson County, right down the road from Cookeville.Growing up he spent most of his time on his Nanny and Pas farm learning the value ofhard work. The strong values and faith in God he learned from his family have trulymade him the person he is today.

Having a genuine, lifelong friend like John Wesley has been very special to Matthew. Matthewis beyond grateful for the brotherly bond between the two and wouldnt be where he is todaywithout that. Through all life has to offer, they knew they could count on the other for support. Itis that principal they live by- not taking relationships for granted, and adding value to others inorder build new ones.
The same can be said about having a role model. Being blessed with the opportunity to workwith and learn from a great leader and dentist like Andy, has been an answered prayer in manyways to both Matthew and John Wesley. They all share the same family values and desire todeliver the best care possible to their patients.
