Joleyn Carriveau has been a registered dental hygienist for 19 years and has worked in private dental practices and public dental health settings. Joleyn helped to coordinate the development of a professional education program for PrioBiora Health which recruited, hired, and trained dental hygienists around the country as independent professional educators. She also works as an independent RDH professional educator for Water Pik, Inc. She is a small business owner and contracts with the Florida Dental Hygiene Association on Public Health Data Collection projects.

Joleyn remains a member of the West Coast, Florida, and American Dental Hygienists Association. She has served as the West Coast of Florida District Trustee. Joleyn served many terms as both an ADHA/FDHA state and national delegate. She was an FDHA Board of Dentistry Liaison and is an active member of the FDHA Council on Governmental Affairs (COGA) the Hygienists Political Action Committee (HYPAC). In 2018 she received the Yvette Blum Mentor of the Year Award.

Joleyn Carriveau has held many leadership offices throughout her career from SADHA President as a student and president of her local association and the Florida Dental Hygienists Association including Past President, President, President-Elect, Vice President and Co-Chair of Fundraising to the Florida Dental Hygiene Association during 2009 2013. During her tenure in the FDHA leadership the 2011 access to care law was passed it allowed Florida dental hygienists to practice dental hygiene in a health access settings. As FDHA President in 2012 local anesthesia was passed, making Florida the 44th state in the US to allow registered dental hygienists the freedom to administer local anesthesia.

Having a passion for helping the underserved of her community, she annually volunteers for Hope for Communities and Project Christmas Smile. For over five years she was a monthly dental hygiene volunteer at the Senior Friendship Center in Sarasota and is an annual volunteer and Clinical Director for Special Smiles at the Florida Special Olympics.

Her involvement in student, local, state, and national leadership has allowed her to learn and be mentored by some of the best and brightest RDHs in our profession. The networking connections led her to her all-time favorite position as a professional educator with Waterpik Inc. She believes that all dental hygienists are better together! Being connected to and working with amazing dental hygienists inspires all professionals to be more creative, work harder and achieve their professional goals.

While 2020 has been a challenging year for the dental profession, Joleyn is presently working with a local dentist to develop a company that will provide safe mobile dental care. She encourages all dental hygienists to be actively involved in their profession at whatever level they feel comfortable. Help make the profession of dental hygiene the best it can be!
