Dr. Chris Freed earned his dental degree from the University of Iowa in 2008. Prior to dental school, he completed his undergraduate education with honors, achieving a Bachelor of Science in microbiology. He continues to undergo extensive continuing education to remain on the cutting edge of dentistry, including courses through Spears Education, and has received advanced training in IV sedation and dental implants. He has been a previous member of the American Dental Association and the South Dakota Dental Association.
Following dental school, he served as a navy dentist for four years and has been practicing in southeastern South Dakota for over five years. He is proud to offer all aspects of dentistry and help families develop and maintain healthy dentition. Dr. Freed strives to provide the most advanced, state-of-the-art dentistry and best possible craftsmanship. He does all aspects of dentistry, including root canals, oral surgery, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry.
Dr. Wiebe grew up in Canton, South Dakota, and graduated from Canton High School. He completed his undergraduate degree at USD in Vermillion, where he majored in biology. He earned his dental education at UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska, and graduated in May 2016. While at school, he did mission clinics, sharing clinics and pediatric outreach programs, as well as enjyoing watching the Cornhuskers play football. He had a pediatric dental clinic externship and two rotations here at Canton Dental Clinic, where he gained invaluable experience working with Dr. Schulte and Dr. Pranke. In the summer of 2016, Dr. Wiebe came back to Canton to join Canton Dental Clinic.
In his free time, Dr. Wiebe likes to golf, bowl, ski, hunt and fish, but most of all, he loves to spend time with his small family. Dr. Wiebe got married to his wife, Brittany, from Rock Valley, Iowa, in 2020. They have one daughter named Hollis, who was born in January 2021. Together, they like to spend time with relatives, go for boat rides, and camp and fish out by the Missouri River.
Dr. Wiebe enjoys all aspects of dentistry, developing relationships with families, and helping them achieve and maintain a healthy dentition. He continues his education every year with seminars, classes and postgraduate school in order to maintain and enhance his dental knowledge. His goal is to perform excellent dentistry in a gentle and caring way.
Dr. Pranke was raised in the rural community of Newman Grove, Nebraska, and completed undergraduate studies at Wayne State College. She earned her dental degree at the UNMC College of Dentistry. As a student at UNMCs College of Dentistry, she was actively involved as a Nebraska Student Dental Association (NSDA) officer, allowing her to represent UNMC at many national conferences. She volunteered her clinical dental skills at People Citys Mission Medical Clinic in Lincoln and the Nebraska Mission of Mercy clinics. She also participated in a dental mission trip in Panahuara, Peru. In March of 2015, she completed an externship at Canton Dental Clinic and enjoyed getting acquainted with the clinic, patients and community.
As a dentist, her passion is creating smiles for her patients to be proud of, caring for her patients oral health and watching their families grow as a part of our practice. She does all aspects of dentistry, including orthodontics, root canals, surgery, cosmetic and restorative dentistry, and she also loves working with children. As a general dentist, she loves to provide orthodontic treatment for her patients. She continues her education by attending classes several times a year. She has completed extensive continuing education courses for traditional orthodontic, as well as Invisalign and ClearCorrect.
Dr. Pranke, her husband, Steven, and son, Tucker, enjoy living in Canton and being part of a smaller community. As a family, they enjoy traveling, camping, being outdoors and spending time with family. Laura also enjoys cooking new foods and trying new restaurants.
In January 2017, Dr. Gordon Schulte sold Canton Dental Clinic to Dr. Chris Freed, and in April 2017, he retired from practice. We thank him for his expertise and many years of service in Canton, South Dakota, and surrounding areas, and wish him well as he moves into the next phase of his life.
Alyssa Certified Dental Assistant Alyssa joined our team in April 2016, and she brings a positive attitude to work every day. She graduated from Western Iowa Tech in May 2015, and she received her certification from the Dental Assisting National Board. As a dental assistant, Alyssa enjoys facing the everyday challenges that help her grow both as a person and a dental assistant. Alyssa and her son recently moved to Canton and have been enjoying what the community has to offer. When she is not at work, Alyssa likes shopping, taking her dog, Pickles, on walks, and spending time with her family.
Ashley Dental Hygienist Ashley joined our team in June of 2020. She graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelors of Science degree in dental hygiene. She grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with her family. To Ashley, her favorite part about working at Canton Dental Clinic is the family environment and working as part of a team.
Ashley is getting married to Brady in September of 2021. He owns The Yard Barbers, a lawn care company in Sioux Falls with his twin brother. Fun fact: Ashley is also a twin. Ashley and Brady currently live in Sioux Falls and share a Goldendoodle together, Marlie. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, doing anything outdoors and spoiling all of her nieces and nephews.
Bridgette Dental Assistant Bridgette is one of our trusted and skilled dental assistants, and she has been with Canton Dental Clinic since 2014. She is a valuable asset to our practice and helps keep everything running smoothly. Bridgette is married to her husband, Tyler, and they have two kids, Sloane and Cooper, and two dogs, Stella and Millie. When she is not at work, Bridgette enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
Connie Registered Dental Hygienist Connie is one of our long-term team members, having joined the team in May 1994. She loves being part of a team that has fun together and provides a family-like atmosphere for patients. Connie loves what she does and is always happy to help out wherever she is needed, and she does so with a positive attitude.
Connie is married to Jeff, and together, they have three boys. Jeff is a crop farmer and runs a Black Angus cow and calf and feedlot operation. Jacob, the oldest son, farms with his dad. He also has degrees in powerline and electrician but loves the farmer life. Vaughn loves being a traveling RN. He will be returning to the area to obtain his CRNA license. He is excited to continue to grow in the healthcare field. Eli will be attending Lake Area Tech in Watertown. His major will be Farm Management and Animal Science. He is excited to work on the farm with his brother and dad.
Danielle Registered Dental Assistant Danielle moved to the Canton area in February 2017, which is when she joined our team at Canton Dental Clinic ; however, she has been working with Dr. Freed since 2014. She received her associates degree in dental assisting from Lake Area Tech in Watertown, South Dakota. Danielle is a very go-with-the-flow person, which makes it possible for her to help out in both the front office and the back, which is very rewarding for her. Danielle particularly loves the small-town feel that Canton brings, and she loves getting to know her patients on a personal level. Danielle is the proud mom of two dogs and a cat.
Darcy Certified Dental Assistant, Receptionist Darcy has been with Canton Dental Clinic since 1997, and she loves it! In 2003, she received her National Dental Assisting License. To Darcy, the best part about Canton Dental Clinic is the patients and their families; she loves that she has been able to develop relationships with them over the years. Darcy and her husband, Ross, have two daughters and one son, as well as a black Labrador named Bear. Their daughter, Bridgette, who also works at Canton Dental Clinic, is married to Tyler, and they have a daughter, Sloane, and a son, Cooper. Darcys son, Brett, is married to Kaylee, and they have a daughter, Hayden, and a son, Casey. Their youngest daughters name is Brooklyn. When she is not at work, Darcy enjoys camping and boating at the lake with family!
Gwen Office Manager Gwen has worked in the dental field for 18 years but has been an office manager at Canton Dental Clinic since May of 2020. She loves working with patients and her co-workers. Her and her husband, Chad, live in Inwood, Iowa. They have three children: Cullen, who is grown and lives on his own, Wyatt and Katelyn at home. When not at work, Gwen enjoys going to her daughters sporting events, watching her husband tractor pull, and spending time with her family and friends.
Marie Certified Dental Assistant Marie became part of the Canton Dental team in September 2019. Born and raised in Michigan, Marie graduated from Grand Rapids Community College with her dental assisting degree and certification from the Dental Assisting National Board. She previously worked in Sioux Falls for eight years before joining our team. Marie especially loves working with orthodontic cases to provide patients with a beautiful smile. Marie and her husband, Andrew, have three kids and live on a farm in Northwest Iowa.
Missy Dental Assistant Missy has been a part of our team at Canton Dental Clinic since 1999. She was trained as a chairside dental assistant by Dr. Schulte. Missy likes the overall family feel that is in our office, as well as the compassion and care that everyone shows towards our patients. In addition, Missy enjoys learning new things every day, including how she can improve patient care. Missy and her husband, Pat, have one daughter, Mikayla. When she is not at work, Missy enjoys lunch dates with Mikayla, who graduated high school in 2020 and just finished her first year at STI. She also enjoys going to the farmers market in the summer as well as visiting and caring for her nephews and niece.
Shanna Registered Dental Hygienist Shanna graduated from dental assisting at LATI in 2002. She went on to the dental hygiene program at USD, and graduated in May 2007. After graduating, she worked in Sioux Falls area for three years, which led her to joining our team at Canton Dental Clinic in 2010. To her, the best part of working at our clinic is working in a warm, friendly environment. Shanna and her husband, Neil, have three wonderful children. As a mom, she enjoys watching her daughter in ballet and sons in playing football, baseball and basketball. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Shannon Receptionist Shannon joined Canton Dental Clinic in May 1990 with a certification in dental assisting. She has enjoyed her years at the clinic as they evolved in the dental world, from being an assistant to a receptionist. Shannon most enjoys traveling adventures with her husband, Seth, being home cozy with her Labrador, Lucy, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Shannon Dental Assistant Shannon joined our team at Canton Dental Clinic in July of 2020. Shannon is excited to be a part of tha Canton Dental team. She loves the opportunity to develop strong relationships with patients, families and the community. Shannon and her husband, Wade, have two daughters: Cloe, who attends school here in Canton, and Lola, who is excited to start school in a few years. When Shannon is not at work, she loves to spend time with family and friends, travel and to try new things. Her next adventure is to learn how to play golf.
Steph Registered Dental Hygienist Steph originally joined our practice in 2000, and she stayed with us until 2009, when she moved to Idaho for two years. She returned to the Canton area and has been with our practice since 2011. Steph graduated from USD in 2000. She enjoys being part of a team that is full of caring people and provides high-quality dentistry. She does her part by keeping a positive attitude and doing her best to care for her patients. Steph has four children and four grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys boating, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
