Every patient is an opportunity for me to improve a life. My patients are important to me as people. I enjoy the rapport we build and am happy to strengthen connections and develop new ones. For me, dentistry has always been more than working on teeth: its about caring for each person as an individual, respecting who they are and what they desire from care.

Ive been practicing dentistry for many years. When I was a young child, I was impressed by my first dentist. He was gentle and kind, very attentive, and he encouraged his patients to care about our oral health. Those initial visits to the dentist made a strong, positive impression, and I knew I wanted to help others in the same way.

I strive for perfection in all aspects of my profession. Our patients deserve leading-edge care, access to the best of current technology and techniques, and truly painless visits. Its a joy to be thanked, at the end of a procedure, for having made the process seamless and delivered results the patient loves.

Im proud of the staff at our practice. They are truly the reason for our success, with their collective knowledge, skills, and passion for our patients wellbeing. Each cares, personally, about our patients and sincerely wants to help them. Its rewarding to me to continuously hear from patients, outside the office, about how well our team has treated them.

Following dental school, I served our country for three years in the U.S. Army Corps. I was also full-time faculty at the University of Maryland Dental School for 18 years: five years as Chairman of Fixed Restorative Dentistry and seven years as Director of Advanced Education in General Dentistry.

Additionally, I have eight years of sponsored clinical research projects, developing and testing restorative dental materials. Ive also lectured nationally and internationally on advanced techniques in cosmetic dentistry.

Im committed to providing each patient with leading-edge, proven dental care. Throughout the year I complete numerous continuing education courses, staying current on changes in methodologies and techniques, along with new technology and materials. Im also active in dental study clubs, learning from and with other dentists and oral healthcare specialists.

I believe a major responsibility of any professional, and especially those in healthcare, is to offer ones services to those in need. Ive performed missionary dentistry in El Hogar, an orphanage in Honduras, and acted as a restorative co-lead for the Eastern Shore Mission of Mercy.

My wife, Mary, is a dental hygienist and an operating room registered nurse. She helped start the practice, working for two years as our hygienist, before returning to the operating room at Memorial Hospital at Easton.

I firmly believe that highly personalized dental care is essential. Each patient has unique clinical and personal concerns, along with specific goals. By listening to patients, respecting their individual situation, and engaging them during the treatment planning process, I ensure each person receives the best care.

I grew up interested in the sciences and medical field and knew I wanted a profession that allowed me time to get to know people. I also enjoy art and working with my hands. Dentistry is the perfect blend of all my desires, interests, and skills.

Being a dentist allows me to connect with our diverse community, building real relationships that go beyond doctor and patient. I thrive on conversations with patients and consider many of them friends. Its a pleasure to spend my days helping people I care about achieve a beautifully healthy smile and share some laughter along the way.

We have a remarkable team at our practice. Each staff member is well-trained, professional, and experienced. They are also warm, friendly, and accommodating. It makes me happy to hear our team talking and laughing with patients, sharing in their lives and connecting with them on a personal level.

Dentistry, like all medical fields, is constantly evolving. Advancements in technology, along with new materials and techniques, are developed at a breathtaking pace. As a dentist, its my responsibility to stay current on these changes, evaluating each and determining which offers the greatest benefits to patients.

Throughout the year I complete many post-graduate courses. This keeps me up-to-date with the most innovative and proven methods to ensure the best outcome for patients. In addition to attending conferences, lectures, and seminars, Im President of the Easton Maryland Dental Study Club. The study club brings together dentists and oral healthcare specialists to discuss complex cases and learn from each other.

Part of being a dentist, I feel, is ensuring our community is stronger and healthier. I volunteer at Maryland Mission of Mercy, providing free dental care to underserved individuals. I am also on Deans Faculty at the University of Maryland Dental School.

I grew up in Ellicott City and now call Grasonville home. I come from a big family of five boys and one girl; currently, my father is the Director of the Advanced General Dentistry Residency and General Dental Clinics at the University of Maryland Dental School. My wife, Dr. Katherine Barnes, is a dentist who works at Dr. Lewis-Meads pediatric office.
