Dr. Paul R. Calat is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who completed his dental training in 1996 at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. For the next six years, he focused on advanced specialty training in the field of Oral Surgery and Dental Implantology at Columbia University/Harlem Hospital Center. He has earned the distinction of being named a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
A faculty member at both Mount Sinai Medical Center and Beth Israel Medical Center, Dr. Calat is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a member of the following associations: the New York Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association and the Hudson County Dental Society.
Committed to providing his patients the latest technology and the most advanced techniques available, Dr. Calat founded the Mid Manhattan Chapter of the Spear Dental Study Group in 2010, where he is able to collaborate with other dental colleagues on challenging patient cases as well as to participate in continuing education opportunities.
Dr. Calat is a New York native who enjoys spending time with his wife, Lori, and their two children, Drew and Alexa. Dr. Calat has completed the NYC Triathlon multiple times in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Tooth roots not only anchor teeth securely in place, they also maintain the health of the surrounding gums and bone structures. When a tooth is lost, the body begins to resorb the nearby bone. This can compromise the integrity and stability of adjacent teeth, and can lead to the sunken appearance that is common in denture wearers. Denture wearers must also cope with frequent relining, as progressive jawbone loss will make the dentures looser over time.
Dental implants replace the tooth roots, halting and even reversing this progressive bone loss. They protect the surrounding teeth, provide a strong and stable base for replacement teeth, and present a full, youthful appearance in the mouth.
Dental implants are tiny anchors of biocompatible titanium that are placed in the jawbone and allowed to fuse. After a few months, abutment posts are inserted to allow the permanent attachment of replacement teeth.
As you might suspect, dental implants must be precisely placed for the final restoration to be strong, durable, and precisely fitted to the surrounding teeth. Thats why we use cone beam scans and virtual 3-D modeling to develop exacting treatment plans. We will work closely with you and your dentist to design a plan that features optimal aesthetics, functionality, and longevity, and allow you to view it with the 3-D model.
When planning is complete, we then use specialized software to create a surgical guide. This will direct the precise location, angle, and depth of the implant placement, vastly increasing safety, efficiency, accuracy, and predictability.
As the name suggests, a single tooth dental implant uses one implant to support one replacement tooth. We will work hard to ensure that the implant blends in with the surrounding teeth and gum tissue, and is equally functional and useful.
If you are missing three or more teeth in a row, an implant supported bridge may be the best solution. Multiple dental implants will be used to secure a bridge of replacement teeth, providing a strong, functional, and aesthetic final restoration.
Implant supported dentures may be either fixed or removable. Removable implant supported dentures require as few as two dental implants, onto which the denture snaps, stabilizing the denture and avoiding the use of denture paste or adhesive. Fixed implant supported dentures require just a handful of implants.
The All-on-Four is a unique solution for patients who are missing all of their upper or lower teeth, or both. Just 4 implants can secure an entire arch of replacement teeth. No plastic palate is required for upper teeth, allowing more natural speaking and eating than is possible with a traditional denture. The lower teeth are secured rather than resting on the gums, preventing slipping or pinching.
In addition, the All-on-Four is an immediate-load implant solution. Rather than waiting a few months for traditional implants to fuse with the jawbone, patients who select the All-on-Four will receive a full, fixed set of replacement teeth immediately.
The majority of dental implants are made from titanium, but this is not the only choice. Some patients prefer zirconia implants for a variety of reasons. Biocompatible and bioinert, ceramic zirconia implants are a strong and stable, white, non-metal option. Those with allergies or sensitivities, those seeking the most esthetic solution for front teeth, and those who desire a holistic-friendly, non-conductive, corrosion resistant option often choose zirconia implants. We will help you decide which material will best meet your needs and desires.
You will have the option to have your procedure performed with local anesthesia, where wethoroughly numb the area. Or you may choose to have your procedure performed with IV sedation anesthesia and local anesthesia. The primary difference is that with IV sedation you are safely asleep for the local anesthesia injections and the procedure.

I went to the Hoboken Oral Surgeons for my wisdom teeth extractions this July, and Dr. Bo Wang was the doctor who gave me the treatment, I would like to say Dr. Bo was the BEST doctor that I have ever met - he explained my situation clearly and walked me through the treatment plan thoroughly. The surgery was of zero pain and no swelling afterwards. Highly recommend Dr. Bo. Also originally there is some glitch with the billing but the billing team was great and responsive, s/o to Nina from the billing team who spent a lot of time working with me over the phone helping me resolve the billing issue. Thank you!

Dr. Calat is hands down one of the best oral surgeons I've ever encountered. Dental work terrifies me but Dr. Calat was very thorough and kind, walking me through the process as well as what to expect. The procedure was incredibly smooth and I have not experienced any pain after having 3 wisdom teeth removed. I strongly recommend Dr. Calat. His staff is also very friendly and responsive

As a child, I went through a few traumatic experiences with dentists and that made me stay away from them. However, I had to get 4 extractions and there was no way to hide the pain but face the dentist. I met Dr. Carunchio, very knowledgeable on dental work and gave me a solid plan on how the procedure will go and it will be pain free. I really didn't believe there is a pain free dental work; however, she proved me wrong. I saw Dr Calat after being seen by my dentist and was told I needed an emergency extraction. His staff was great and he was exceptional. I was unable to sleep and did not eat for two days prior, the extraction was seamless and would definitely recommend.

Whole experience was great. I had both top and bottom wisdom teeth extracted and experienced NO SWELLING, minor pain. I was literally shocked at how fast the whole procedure was over with!! Office staff very attentive texted me a couple days after just to see how I was feeling which I genuinely appreciated. I would highly recommend Dr. Carunchio and her staff!

I had an unpleasant experience with the staff member who was texting me back and forth but Dr Calat called me back to ask why my appt was cancelled and went out of his way to accomodate me. Kudos to the doctor and a major thumbs down to the receptionist or whoever manages their communication with new patients. Took one star out of my review because of her/him but I really look forward to the treatment with Dr Calat.

I had a wonderful experience here! I had to have emergency wisdom tooth surgery and first called at 11pm to leave a voicemail for the staff in the morning, but was surprised and delighted when a member picked up! She was very nice and helped me get started. I saw the doctor that week and was able to do the surgery. Everything went great! I thought my insurance wouldn't cover it but Dr. Carunchio and the very sweet ladies at the front desk printed an estimate for me which my insurance was able to cover almost all of it. I felt informed and prepared during the entire process, and everyone on the team including Dr. Carunchio were so helpful and kind. I would absolutely recommend this practice to anyone!

Dr. Calat is my Doc Holliday of Hoboken. He is the dentist that you want on your side when you're become aware, painfully as it may be, that you will need some major work on your teeth. Though I'm not a stranger to dental work (root canals, extractions, dental implants), Dr. Calat made the entire process as pleasant as possible. Unless you have a huge cavity in your brain, Dr. Calat should be your first oral surgeon to consult. I know that "I will be back" for more. That's life.

I thought getting your wisdom teeth out was supposed to be unpleasant, but these guys made it a walk in the park! They were kind and calming, and always told me what they were doing and thinking as they worked. Also, they got me into their schedule for surgery the same day as my consult, allowing me to get back to school with fewer teeth and fewer worries! Thanks, guys!

The scheduling was convenient and timely to take care of a broken tooth and an additional wisdom tooth extraction along with a bone graft and and anchor for a soon to be added molar.

I had Oral surgery to remove two wisdom teeth. And the experience was great. They were very accommodating especially when I had scheduling conflicts.

I went in today to get my three wisdom teeth extracted with just local anesthetics and it did not hurt all. Dr. Bo Wang was the oral surgeon. He was super patient and thorough with all the explanation, by far THE BEST and MOST WONDERFUL doctor I've ever encountered. I will highly recommend Dr. Bo Wang!
