A pioneer in the incorporation of a hospital team dedicated to 24-hour, around-the-clock, inpatient care, Holston Medical Group has received national recognition for its hospitalist teams efforts to improve patient safety during hospital stays.

A hospitalist is a hospital-based physician who is responsible for coordinating all aspects of patient care during a hospital stay. As an HMG patient, if you are receiving care at either Indian Path Medical Center or Holston Valley Medical Center, you will have access to an HMG hospitalist who will be onsite and available 7 days-a-week, 24 hours-a-day.

In addition to receiving the experienced care of a team of physicians dedicated to the special needs of inpatient care, patients also receive numerous other advantages, such as access and a timely response.

For you, the patient, in addition to receiving the experienced care of a team dedicated to the special medical needs of hospitalized patients, you also enjoy the advantage of accessibility. While a physician within a private practice is typically only available to talk with you during morning rounds, a hospitalist is always within the hospital and can be available to answer questions or concerns.

A hospitalist is also able to provide a more timely response in coordinating diagnostic and laboratory testing and consulting with other specialists. Without the patient care responsibilities of an office practice, a hospitalist is always onsite within the hospital, readily available to coordinate all aspects of your care. Additionally, their inpatient experience means they are very familiar with the inner workings and dynamics of the hospital setting.

Because your hospitalists medical career focuses on caring for patients within the hospital setting, he or she has a great deal of experience in the unique aspects of a patients needs during a hospital stay (coordinating and ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting results, consulting with various specialists, etc.).

In the 1970s, the future of healthcare in the Appalachian region faced many challenges. A majority of the medical staff in the area was preparing to retire but few were stepping in to fill the gaps. As the number of unhealthy people in the region continued to grow, how would an already underserved community be able to get affordable, high-quality care?

HMG Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Stephen Yallourakis, MD - Oral surgeon in Kingsport, TN

Dr. Jerry Miller, president of the hospitals medical staff, envisioned a new way to serve the community with compassion, integrity and respect. Determined to solve the challenge, he and a small group of colleagues believed an independent, physician-owned family practice would have the power to build lasting relationships, deliver quality medical care and engage patients in better health.

Holston Medical Group announces the opening of HMG Pulmonology at Medical Plaza, which will begin providing patient care on January 24, 2022. HMG Pulmonology will support patients in managing and treating a variety of breathing disorders and work in conjunction with the HMG Sleep Centers in Kingsport and Bristol to provide patients with state-of-the-art sleep monitoring to diagnose sleep disorders. The Tri-Cities area will now have expanded access to support conditions including asthma, COPD, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, pneumonia, COVID-19, and others.

Leading HMG Pulmonology and providing compassionate, specialized care will include notable community healthcare providers Cynthia Dean, FNP, Lisa McKinney, DO, Mirle Girish, MD, and Janice Ewing, FNP.

Cynthia Dean, FNP: Dean has been with Holston Medical Group in 2018. Leaning on her 27+ years as a nurse, she has a breadth of experience helping patients with sleep issues and pulmonary conditions including black lung.

I enjoy working with my patients and using the latest advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and management to better their sleep and breathing. I look forward to being the communitys health partner for life and supporting their sleep, lung and pulmonary needs, said Dean.

Lisa McKinney, DO: McKinney spent much of her adolescence as a hospital patient; the care she received as a child inspired her to specialize in pulmonology and focus on patients with cystic fibrosis, COPD and bronchiectasis.

I believe a holistic approach and a strong partnership are critical to helping patients manage their pulmonary diseases, says McKinney. Often its simple, small changes applied consistently over time have the greatest impact and can help patients live a full life, even with a chronic disease like COPD or Asthma.

My father died of respiratory issues related to smoking at the age of 50, says Girish. I have a personal passion for helping my patients stop smoking and have achieved a 90% success rate. I dont give up on my patients but work with them to find solutions that work best for them. I enjoy that human connection I share with my patients.

I love helping my patients and being a partner in their health journey, Ewing says. I believe that education is key and it empowers my patients to know that they hold the power to make the changes necessary to improve their health. I work closely with each one so they each know their personalized options and are being the smartest healthcare consumer possible.

Dr. Yallourakis is an excellent maxillofacial surgeon. He is informative, professional and very kind . I have had two teeth surgically removed and both were under general anesthesia. All went exceptionally well. No infection, no pain, as all should have gone. Now, once more I need to have another extraction. They call this age the golden years, but I beg to differ to some degree. I generally am very anxious about dentistry in any form, but not with this doctor , anymore. I feel safe and well taken care of as a patient and human being by Dr. Yallourakis and his staff. I feel so fortunate to have had Brown's Dental in Abingdon to refer me to Dr. Yallourakis and his staff. Another star in their crown is that I have canceled so many times over years for good reasons; as well as, severe anxiety about dental work. Not their fault, but they have been so forgiving and kind. I see post about waiting issues. That was not ever a problem for me. Lucky I suppose considering it is a doctor's office. I remember waiting for my genocologist for hours in 70s, 80s and 90s. Yea, I am older than dirt. So, with all this evaluation I have given,; I stand by the fact that this office is well run by kind and compassionate staff; as well as, a Doctor that cares about his clients/patients and I believe that he would go far and above to make you feel safe and cared for. What more could you ask of a doctor or any human being. Bravo to Dr. Yallourakis; as well as, his wonderful staff!

Waited in the office for 2.75 hours before seeing the doctor. He then spent five minutes looking at my x-rays before writing my a referral and charged me for a visit in which he did virtually nothing.

I would NOT recommend this place . Every time I've been here I sit for over an hour and a half sometimes two passed my appointment time before I even see the surgeon . I have no insurance and I pay cash out of pocket and this man don't even have the respect for his patients to consider we pay his bills our time matters just the same as his . Poor excuse of an office ! The staff are wonderful but he's a waste of time and money . I won't pay thousands of dollars for someone who can't give me 5 minutes of their time .

Been over 2 months since my visit and 6 weeks since my insurance company confirmed they made payment to this office, yet I haven't received my money back and thats after my wife was told we would receive it mid last week. They wanted their money upfront but obviously don't care about paying you back after they receive payment from insurance. Bottom line is money is tight for working people these days, you shouldn't make them wait months and you certainly shouldn't make false excuses and not follow thru on what you say. If you consider going here keep in mind you will pay upfront no matter how good your insurance is and will not see it back for a good while if ever?

I was very impressed with the quality of care of this office. Dr. Yallourakis was very concerned with how my daughter would be best served and the best way to save the teeth that were being affected by a growth. I would recommend this office for their (his) honesty and concern for their patients.

Not recommended for seniors who have advantage plans! Seniors, choose an oral surgeon in network to avoid paying out-of-pocket! My husband had additional insurance coverage that was contingent on filing for reimbursement. If this office had provided appropriate documentation, we would have had no bill. Staff said they would provide appropriate forms during initial visit. Multiple requests and phone calls later, we did not receive anything other than a bill. We were out over $1000 when we didn't need to be. This oral surgeon has no special expertise. Nor is he personable. Don't be fooled by "he is in HMG network". Save yourself hundreds by going to someone in your insurance network.

Just had a tooth extraction yesterday. This was one of the best customer experiences I have ever had. It's sounds odd to have tooth extraction and best experience in the same sentence, but Dr.Yallourakis and his staff provided a superb customer service experience. I am a consultant and a professor of customer experience and I have used many of my experiences as examples of what not to do. I plan to use this experience as an example of best practices. I highly recommend Dr. Yallourakis.

I have avoided having my wisdom teeth extraction for a long time and at 43 years old, all I had everyone tell me was how terrible it's going to be at my age. I was extremely anxious. Dreamed of everything that could go wrong. Got myself worked up to the point of tears before. Here I am on may second day of recovery of 4 tooth ectraction. The doctor said that one of them was rather difficult. I have very little swelling, no bruises and honestly, asside from the headache and the restrictive diet, I am doing great. Thanks Dr Yallourakis. Now if I can do my part to avoid the dry sockets we will be all good. Update: I think I'm on day 4. On a scale of 1-10 for discomfort I am fortunately around a 3. It's funny tk me that I was so stressed about getting it done. Can't wait to eat some pizza but it's ok. Almost time for my follow up Thursday and in expect everything is going to be great. Trying not to worry about the dry sockets but all is well at the moment. I'll update again after follow up. Hope this helps someone that is stressing about the preceedure. Update Day 8: Had my follow-up yesterday and all is well. This morning I feel great! I guess my summary is simple, I highly recommend Dr Yallourakis. 4 wisdom teeth out, a couple complicated, over 40 and 8 days I'm in great shape.... What more do you want?

I moved to Kingsport about 4 years ago, and the first thing I needed to do was to call an oral surgeon. My dentist told me not to go to anyone else and that Dr. Y was the best. I'm still going to him to this day. Would highly recommend!

I don't remember much about getting my wisdom teeth out, besides crying and taking a very long nap once I got home. However the recovery time was much quicker than expected. Highly recommended as an oral surgeon
