If you had implants placed, we recommend patients get three cleanings a year to keep the implants in top condition. Although dental implants are immune to regular gum disease, if not properly maintained the tissues and bone surrounding the implants can be become inflamed and eventually deteriorate causing the implant to fail. This is a condition called peri-implantis. Our hygienists are specifically trained to clean your implant-supported teeth.

The first line of defense against gum disease is a unique type of cleaning called scaling and root planing. In this procedure, an ultrasonic cleaning device is used to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth where regular cleaning devices can't reach: under the gum line, on the tooth, and around the root. Then, the rough surface of the tooth and the root are smoothed out (planed). This provides a healthy, clean surface that makes it easier for the gum tissue to reattach to the tooth.

Gingivitis is the mildest form of periodontal disease. It causes the gums to become red, swollen, and bleed easily accompanied by a bad breath. There is usually little or no discomfort at this stage. Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and good oral home care. Prophylaxis is recommended at this stage.

If the tissue or bone surrounding your teeth is too damaged to be repaired with non-surgical treatment, several surgical procedures are available to prevent severe damage and to restore a healthy smile. We will recommend the procedure that is best suited to the condition of your teeth and gums. Following is a list of common types of periodontal surgery:

  • Chronic Periodontitis results in inflammation within the supporting tissues of the teeth, progressive attachment and bone loss. This is the most frequently occurring form of periodontitis and is characterized by pocket formation and/or recession of the gum. It is prevalent in adults, but can occur at any age. Progression of attachment loss usually occurs slowly, but periods of rapid progression can occur.
  • Necrotizing Periodontal Disease is an infection characterized by necrosis of gingival tissues, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. These lesions are most commonly observed in individuals with systemic conditions such as HIV infection, malnutrition and immunosuppression.
  • Scaling and root planing is a cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins. Scaling and root planing is sometimes followed by adjunctive therapy such as local delivery antimicrobials . Arestin, systemic antibiotics, and host modulation, as needed on a case-by-case basis. Most periodontists would agree that after scaling and root planing, many patients do not require any further active treatment. However, the majority of patients will require ongoing maintenance therapy every 3-4 months to sustain health.

I've been coming here for about 4 years now and it's always been a pleasant experience with Doctor Trent, the receptionist and the multiple dental hygienist I've seen so far. Everyone is very friendly. It's the most comfortable I've ever felt in a dentist office.

When I first went to this dental office it was only because my former Dentist retired and sent my file there. The first person I met was Anna. She was very friendly with a high energy personality. But with that came with some quick talking and I was being told my Insurance did not cover what I went for and I would be paying as a person with No dental insurance. Ha! My insurance actually paid 50 per cent. She is tricky. She's about the $$$$ only. Watch out for her. The Rest of the staff and Dentists are Super Nice and very Professional.

Friendly staff is great, however I was overcharged for the procedure. I had to involve my insurance company to find out what I should have paid. I was told by front office I should get a refund after my insurance company paid their share. My insurance company has offered to get involved if I don't receive a refund. I've been going here for over 30 years and never had a problem until now. Very disappointed!!

New patient here and their process was very smooth. Completed all paperwork via DocuSign prior to visit. Upon arrival for my appointment, was taken straight to the exam room. X-rays, examination & cleaning all took only roughly 1 hour. Everyone was very friendly, thank you and see you in 6 months!
