Sherril comes from a military family and grew up in Rapid City, as her father was stationed at Ellsworth AFB. She attended SD School of Mines, and also Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and received her bachelors degree in Education. After teaching and living in Ohio for several years she returned to Rapid City to raise her family here in the beautiful Black Hills. She has three daughters: Hannah and her husband, Dalton, live and work in Rapid City; Abigail and her husband, Shane, live in Houston while Abigail attends Optometry school; and Rebecca attends college in Phoenix, Arizona, at Grand Canyon University. She enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends from her church, as well as discovering new hiking trails in the surrounding hills. She was excited to join HillsView Dental as Office Manager this year and become a part of their amazing team.

Sheila grew up in Hayti, South Dakota, and graduated from Hamlin High School and Dakota State University with a Degree in Travel. She began working at HillsView Dental in April of 2012. She enjoys camping, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. She has been married to her husband, Bob, for 37 years. They have three daughters: Kayla and her family live in the Washington DC area, Marissa and her family live in Denver, Colorado, and Kelsy and her husband live in Lexington, Kentucky. She loves visiting with patients, hearing their stories, and building relationships with them.

Sonya grew up in New Hampshire and graduated from National American University in February of 2019 with an Associates Degree in Health Information Management with Coding. Sonya married her husband, Denis, in 1990 and moved, through the military, to South Dakota. Before joining HillsView in November of 2018 she worked in the medical field for 18 years. She enjoys gardening, planting flowers, relaxing at the lake (jet skiing and kayaking), and social gatherings with friends. She and her husband have three wonderful kids: Brandon, Shelby, and Brittany. She also has three grandbabies: Zain, Owen, and Greyson. She enjoys visiting with all the patients and working with a wonderful crew of professionals.

Kelly graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2006 with a degree in dental hygiene. She has been working in the dental health field for over 30 years and has been a part of the HillsView Dental team since 2003. She loves providing caring, compassionate, and high-quality dental care to patients of all ages and building close relationships with everyone. Outside of the office, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and going to her kids activities.

Kristina graduated from Community College of Denver and has been a registered dental hygienist since 2002. She joined HillsView Dental in May 2019. She started working in the dental field in 1998 at her childhood family dentist in Lafayette, Colorado. She moved to the Black Hills area over ten years ago with her husband and two boys. Kristina is passionate about ensuring that patients are comfortable and informed during their dental visit and is committed to building trust and friendship with each patient. In her spare time, Kristina enjoys spending time with her family, riding horses, and raising cattle on their ranch.

Katlyn graduated from Sheridan College with a degree in dental hygiene in 2018. She joined HillsView Dental this year and loves working as a hygienist and building relationships with her patients. She believes that education, communication, and trust are very important in helping patients with their overall dental health. Outside of work, she enjoys riding dirt bikes, hiking, and most of all spending time with her family (including her two German Shepherds).

Savannah has lived mostly in Rapid City, but is originally from Arizona. She graduated from high school in Arizona in 2013, completed radiology schooling in 2016, and took the DANB, becoming certified in November of 2020. She joined the office in August 2016. She enjoys just about anything outdoors. Shes engaged and planning to get married in 2022. She has one son, Grayson, a daughter on the way, and a soon-to-be step-daughter. They spend most of their time outside together, as long as the weather is warm. She loves getting to know all of the patients and making them feel comfortable in the office. She also enjoys helping people gain confidence with their smile.

Shawn has been in the dental field for over 30 years. She enjoys helping people understand the importance of their dental health and how it relates to their overall health. She loves being part of a great team that truly cares for their patients. Her hobbies include camping, gardening, and spending time with her grandkids.

Victoria moved to Rapid City from Wyoming and joined HillsView Dental this year. She graduated from assisting school in 2019. She enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. What she loves most about dentistry is helping people feel at ease in the dental chair, creating a welcoming environment for them, and helping them love their smile.

Dr. Brian Criss acquired his first practice in April 1997, and in 2004 bought his second office. To better serve his patients, Dr. Criss moved his practice to its current location at 1687 Tablerock Road in Rapid City, SD, in October 2016.

In June 2019, Dr. Josh Petersen joined the practice. Together their new office has a welcoming receptions area with comfortable chairs, a fireplace, and lots of windows to enjoy the view of the surrounding hills. We have a coffee bar for our patients and guests, with cold beverages also available. At HillsView Dental you will be greeted by name right away by a smiling face at the front desk.

Our office is located on Highway 16, just a half-hour from Mount Rushmore, in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. We are next door to Peaceful Pines Senior Living Community and West River Periodontics.

Dr. Brian G. Criss received his bachelors degree in social work from the University of Wyoming in 1989. In 1996, he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry, and started his own practice, HillsView Dental. In addition to his degrees and extensive experience in providing high-quality family dental care, Dr. Criss is certified in CEREC restoration using CAD/CAM technology, obstructive sleep apnea treatment and management, as well as TMJ/craniofacial pain management.

While in the office, Dr. Criss loves building connections with patients and getting to know them beyond the doctor-patient relationship. Outside of the office, he enjoys camping, playing the piano, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Joshua T. Petersen is a 2019 graduate of the University of Nebraska medical Center, College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska. While there, he was a member of the American Student Dental Association and graduated in the upper ranks of his class. Prior to dental school, Josh attended the University of South Dakota where he was involved in many clubs and organizations and the university track and field team. He earned his bachelors degree in kinesiology and exercise science in 2015.

Dr. Petersen truly enjoys his time spent with patients, establishing relationships, and providing the highest standard of oral healthcare. After completing dental school, he returned to the Black Hills, where he grew up loving camping, hiking, snowboarding, mountain biking, and spending his summers on the water. He also loves being involved in the community by playing rec league sports and volunteering with the Young Life organization.
