Dr. Akkara was born in Atlanta but spent his formative years in Connecticut. He experienced his first exposure to dentistry at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Akkara volunteered at the dental school and quickly realized that he desired to pursue a degree in dentistry. After graduation with a degree in neuroscience, he was accepted into the 2nd oldest dental school in the country, Temple University School of Dentistry. Temple has been producing successful dentists since 1863. At Temple, he focused his efforts in developing what he calls comfort dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Akkara went on to do a one-year residency training program at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY. During this year, he further developed his comfort dentistry, and his office and skill set are geared towards this.
Dr. Akkara met his wife Annie in 2004 while he was in dental school. They spent their early years together in Manhattan, NY, and have been happily married since 2006. Annie is originally from Florida, and they were excited to return and start their family here. Their pride and joy are their children Aidan and Ava. If hes not in the office, youll likely find him at Crossfitor spending time with family and friends

Mellony recently relocated to the central Florida area, originally growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania. After graduating high school Mellony obtained her expanded functions dental assisting certification along with her radiology certificate from Lebanon County Technical School in 2019. When she is not at work, Mellony is at home watching movies with her cat Luna. She also enjoys yoga and painting.
Sharon has had the pleasure to work with Dr. Akkara since 2009, and many years prior with Dr. Hodges from whom he purchased his practice from. She appreciates and understands the changes Dr. Akkara has made to the office and is excited for the future and growth of Hillcrest Dental. She continues her education though the courses on the latest products and techniques in dentistry. Sharon is from Jacksonville Florida where she graduated from FJC with her certificates in dental hygiene.
Holly was born and raised in Orlando, Florida where she attended Wekiva High School. From early on she knew her passion was dentistry and made the commitment to pursue a career in the dental field after high school. Graduating from AAA School of Dental Assisting, her devotion for top quality work, care and comfort is shown to her patients daily! Holly's favorite thing to do is spend time with her big family especially fiance and son. She loves animals, particularly her 3 dogs who are a very important part of their lives!
Courtney graduated from Concorde Career Institute in 2014 with honors and obtained her certification in radiology along with expanded functions in dental assisting. She later discovered that she was more proficient up front handling insurance claims and patient accounts. Her passion for dentistry has always been in her blood and loved going to the dentist at a young age to have her teeth cleaned.

As always, Sharon did her work conscientiously and well. A consultation with Dr. Ankara gave wise advice. I've been a patient at this location since the mid 80s.

Well it's been three years and I am no longer happy with this place. My last visit, I went during my lunch break for my 30 minute cleaning. Then I was asked to wait to speak to Dr. Akkara who was talking with a customer. The hygienist Sharon told him she was done with me yet 10 minutes later he is still hanging out with his buddy. I ended up leaving without seeing him. Today I had an appointment at 1:20pm, I took the wrong exit and was going to be 10 minutes late, so I called and they said they couldn't see me. That Sharon needed me for a whole hour for a cleaning. I asked if I could speak to her but was told she was still with a customer. How is she with a customer if she is supposed to be with me right now? Also why do they suddenly need a whole hour for a cleaning? The receptionist refused to give me her name and I wonder if they do not care about long term customers or any customer service. I've been going to Hillcrest before Dr. Akkara took over the place but the lack of empathy or even basic customer service is the reason why I won't go back or recommend this place to anyone.

Sharon and Dr. Akkara were so hospitable. I am not one for change. So, moving to another dentist after 20 years was a big step for me. They both made the transition easy. No stress exceptional customer service. Highly recommend!!

Extremely rude and condescending staff member. The dental hygienist questioned me on exactly how much antibiotic I had taken before the appointment, then lectured me as if I was a petulant child when I told her I apparently took the wrong dose, as if I'm not fully aware of the medical condition I've been living with since age 2. She told me she could still do a "light cleaning" and then spent about 5 min brushing and flossing my teeth which the office tried to charge me $90 for. This dental hygienist insisted to the front desk that she had explained exactly what she would be able to do beforehand, then continued to argue with me in an extremely condescending tone in front of both front desk staff, and said her tone with me was actually justified. Luckily the ladies at the desk did not make me pay the afore mentioned price considering the situation. It would've been simple enough for her to simply tell me that because of my mistake per office policy she wouldn't be able to do the cleaning, but she chose to be nasty and condescending, insinuating I was stupid, and seemed intent on making me pay $90 for the experience. The other ladies I've seen there have been nothing but nice, so very disappointed to see the office approve of her behavior.

Wonderful, friendly staff. Clean, UTD office. Easy scheduling. The most accommodations any dentist office could ever have - vibrating chairs, choice of music to listen to, weighted blankets, laughing gas - you name it. I recommend this office to anyone who asks (and even some that don't)! Dr. Akaara is superb and very communicative.
