Dr. Akkara was born in Atlanta but spent his formative years in Connecticut. He experienced his first exposure to dentistry at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Akkara volunteered at the dental school and quickly realized that he desired to pursue a degree in dentistry. After graduation with a degree in neuroscience, he was accepted into the 2nd oldest dental school in the country, Temple University School of Dentistry. Temple has been producing successful dentists since 1863. At Temple, he focused his efforts in developing what he calls comfort dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Akkara went on to do a one-year residency training program at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY. During this year, he further developed his comfort dentistry, and his office and skill set are geared towards this.
Dr. Akkara met his wife Annie in 2004 while he was in dental school. They spent their early years together in Manhattan, NY, and have been happily married since 2006. Annie is originally from Florida, and they were excited to return and start their family here. Their pride and joy are their children Aidan and Ava. If hes not in the office, youll likely find him at Crossfitor spending time with family and friends

Mellony recently relocated to the central Florida area, originally growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania. After graduating high school Mellony obtained her expanded functions dental assisting certification along with her radiology certificate from Lebanon County Technical School in 2019. When she is not at work, Mellony is at home watching movies with her cat Luna. She also enjoys yoga and painting.
Sharon has had the pleasure to work with Dr. Akkara since 2009, and many years prior with Dr. Hodges from whom he purchased his practice from. She appreciates and understands the changes Dr. Akkara has made to the office and is excited for the future and growth of Hillcrest Dental. She continues her education though the courses on the latest products and techniques in dentistry. Sharon is from Jacksonville Florida where she graduated from FJC with her certificates in dental hygiene.
Holly was born and raised in Orlando, Florida where she attended Wekiva High School. From early on she knew her passion was dentistry and made the commitment to pursue a career in the dental field after high school. Graduating from AAA School of Dental Assisting, her devotion for top quality work, care and comfort is shown to her patients daily! Holly's favorite thing to do is spend time with her big family especially fiance and son. She loves animals, particularly her 3 dogs who are a very important part of their lives!
Courtney graduated from Concorde Career Institute in 2014 with honors and obtained her certification in radiology along with expanded functions in dental assisting. She later discovered that she was more proficient up front handling insurance claims and patient accounts. Her passion for dentistry has always been in her blood and loved going to the dentist at a young age to have her teeth cleaned.
