Our practice philosophy focuses on providing the highest quality of care in a relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. Dr. Garrison and Dr. Kempema provide a wide range of services from regular check-ups to restorative care.
Born and raised in southern Wisconsin, Dr. Garrison and her family are active, committed members of the Fort Atkinson community. After receiving her undergraduate and DDS degrees from Marquette University, Dr. Garrison and her husband, James, lived in southern Colorado for two years. While she thoroughly enjoyed her time at an all-childrens practice, Dr. Garrison knew that her heart was back closer to family in the Midwest. As luck would have it, she was put into contact with Dr. Richard Covey, from whom she eventually purchased Highland Dental.
Dr. Garrison loves practicing dentistry and caring for members of her community. She is also active in her church, Bethany Lutheran, in Fort Atkinson. She plays piano, clarinet, and has also started learning the cello! An outdoor enthusiast, she is looking forward to resuming activities which include running, cycling, competing in triathlons, and hiking. She also enjoys traveling, baking, puzzles, and trivia.
Dr. Kempema was raised in a predominately Dutch community in Northwest Iowa, and earned his undergraduate and D.D.S. degrees at the University of Iowa in 1981. He had a solo dental practice in Fort Atkinson for over 30 years. He jumped at the opportunity to join Dr. Garrison and her team at Highland Dental on a part-time basis. Dr. Garrison, her staff, and her practice have a positive, friendly, and dedicated atmosphere that Dr. Kempema appreciates and finds comfortable.
Dr. Kempema met his wife Robin in college. Theyve been married for over 40 years. Robin works for Northwestern Mutual Life in the information technology area. Together they have two married daughters and two energetic and delightful grandsons with whom they love to spend time.
Dr. Kempema enjoys hiking, biking, jogging, reading novels, showing dogs, woodworking, playing guitar, and listening to music. Hes a dedicated Milwaukee Brewers fan, with baseball being his favorite sport.

Brought my newborn here for a frenectomy and was absolutely blown away by the experience we had. I was SO late because my daughter had a blowout and the staff were so kind and understanding as I cleaned her up. They had a rocking chair with a Boppy in the exam room - so thoughtful! Our doctor was kind and welcoming and took some time to get to know us before explaining and answering questions about the procedure. She was kind and warm and helped me feel at ease with the details. They gave little babe some cool glasses for her frenectomy and let me snap a pic. So sweet and thoughtful! Babe's procedure went great and she took it like a champ! I would 100% recommend this provider for an infant frenectomy. If we lived closer, I'd use them as a regular dental provider! Their staff is kind and professional, the building is absolutely beautiful, and the dental care unparalleled. Thank you, Highland Dental!

I made a phone call to make an appointment and before I knew it I was in the chair. Everyone was so pleasantl and helpful. I am not a very willing participant but, I am going back for round 2. Also the new office is beautiful. .

Highly recommend Highland Dental! We had such a great experience with the staff! My daughter needed her tongue tie released and when we went for our visit everyone was so kind and informative of what needed to be done!

Highland Dental has been my dental care provider since childhood. Today my own family are patients at Highland Dental. Knowing all the staff by name and having a family feel is important to me. The staff is always friendly and addresses all my questions I may have. Not only do they have the latest in dental technology but the Doctors are exceptional all by themselves. I would recommend this clinic to all.

I have an upcoming appointment and I'm actually looking forward to it. The staff is so friendly and Dr. Garrison is over the top nice. She has taken care of many dental problems that 82 year old teeth have and I haven't had any pain, plus she calls my home to check. I don't have insurance and use their plan and any work she does is very reasonably priced. Awesome people and they are always happy so I guess they like their jobs. I like them very much and would recommend them to anyone.

During my second visit with Dr. Garrison, she told me that I could stop back another time if the dental hygienist found anything worth noting. I told her I would not be coming back when this was my planned visit and I was not been asked if this was okay. She then did her inspection. I was very disappointed in this practice. I understand she has family and other obligations outside of work, but so do I.

I highly recommend Highland Dental. As someone who's had negative experiences at other dentists, it's a relief to enter a judgement free zone and be treated like an individual, not a number. Everyone, Dr. Garrison, the dental hygienists, assistants, and office staff ect. are lovely. I'm also grateful for the text reminders and great availability for appointments.

I have been very happy with Dr Garrison over the past few years for my regular dental checks and cleanings. Recently she also did my tongue tie release and lower lip frenectomy. I am very pleased with the results of the procedure and can't believe the improvement in my sleep, breathing, eating and swallowing. Dr Garrison explained every step of the procedure and regularly asked how I was doing throughout. Gentry was assisting and was also amazing! My only regret is not knowing about the issues related to a tongue tie and having it released much earlier than in my 40s. I am thankful to Dr Garrison for always listening to my concerns and questions and suggesting options to resolve them. I would highly recommend her for an adult frenectomy and general dentistry!

Super thankful for Dr. Garrison and her team at Highland Dental. Our 7 month old daughter had a category 4 lip tie. Obviously a lip and/or tongue tie procedure is not an easy thing for a parent to watch their child go through. With that being said, every person was incredibly sympathetic and encouraging. One of the techs even let us know that they are all mom's there, so they understand how difficult it is. She told us if we needed anything to let her know. The procedure was quick, and Dr. Garrison did an amazing job explaining everything to us. We felt confident going home that we would be able to do the required stretches. The first evening, we even got a text from Dr. Garrison just checking in on us all. That was super nice. Would highly recommend this dentistry! They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable.

Dr. Garrison and her staff are top notch. From the front desk all the way to accounting! I had posts put in recently and Highland Dental being my primary care had great communication with ortho. They make it easy and Highland was spot on with my size and color of teeth that were implemented. No one likes the dentist or the cost of them, but if you want your money well spent and the feeling of great confidence that it will be done correctly then I would suggest Highland Dental. I needed a molar tooth extracted and went to Dr Garrison for help. She did an amazing job! I came home and have had minimal pain and zero swelling! I always enjoy the kindness of the crew as well. Best dentist I've experienced!

My 8 week old daughter saw Dr. Brenda Garrison for evaluation and treatment of a tongue tie (my daughter had poor weight gain and reflux symptoms). Dr. Garrison did a thorough exam of her mouth. She diagnosed her with a tongue and lip tie. She explained the treatment/procedure with the laser. Completing the procedure only took a few minutes. Upon breastfeeding after the procedure, there was a significant improvement in latch and quality of milk transfer. The most difficult part as a parent were the exercises that needed to be completed around the clock after the procedure. The entire procedure was covered by our dental insurance. I would recommend Dr. Garrison to any other new mom with an baby with a tongue tie. Her and her staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.
