Dr. Higginson has been practicing orthodontics in Owensboro since 1978. He attended Western Kentucky University before entering dental school at the University of Louisville. Dr. Higginson received his certification and Master of Science in Orthodontics from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a board certified orthodontist by the American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the College of Diplomats of the ABO. He is a member of the American and Southern Associations of Orthodontists, and the American and Kentucky Dental Associations. He is a past president of the Green River Dental Society and the Western Kentucky Orthodontic Study Group. Dr. Higginson has served as a license examiner for the Orthodontic Specialty Board, as a trained insurance advisor for the American Association of Orthodontists, and as a delegate to the Kentucky Dental Association. Dr. Higginson is actively involved with the Spear Dental Study Group.

Dr. Higginson started Owensboro Sleep Medicine twelve years ago in 2009. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Sleep Society for the last six years and is immediate past president of the Kentucky Sleep Society. He is a member of the Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Kentucky Sleep Society.

Joe and his wife Barbara served on the Parents Advisory Council for 13 years and for one year on the Honors College Board of Directors at Western Kentucky University. Dr. Higginson is currently serving on the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association Board of Directors for WKU. He is a past president of the Daviess County Lions Club and the Owensboro Marlins Swim Team. Dr. Higginson also coached recreational soccer for 13 seasons. He has served on numerous local boards and is a graduate of Leadership Owensboro. He is currently serving on the board of the Community Dental Clinic.

Joe and Barbara have been married for 47 years. They met as freshmen at WKU. They have two daughters, Magen and Mary Katherine, and 4 granddaughters. Magen and her husband Kyle graduated from WKU and reside in Bowling Green, along with their 3 daughters Ella Brentz, Lilian Grace, and Olivia Rose. Kyle owns a State Farm Agency and Magen works as his office manager. Mary Katherine and her husband Zack also graduated from WKU and reside in Bowling Green, along with their daughter Oaklynn Elizabeth. Zack works at the Honors College at WKU and Mary Katherine is a school psychologist at Simpson County Schools in Franklin, KY.

Meet the staff of Higginson Orthodontics. Each member of Dr. Higginsons staff has his or her own unique gifts, talents, and personality. They are passionate about their work and their main objective is to provide quality orthodontic treatment and education to each individual patient they encounter.

Ruth Ann has been with Dr. Higginson for 43 years. She and her husband Joe have two children, Chris and Brandy. They also have two grandchildren Aadikis and Aspen. Ruth Ann enjoys going to Nashville and San Diego to spend time with her family.

Louis has worked with Dr. Higginson as a Lab Technician for over 20 years. He has two children, twins Nathan and Nicole, and four grandsons. Louis is also owner of 'Louis's Boutique' in Consumer Mall. Biking and traveling are two of his favorite hobbies.

Teresa has worked as an orthodontic assistant for Dr. Higginson for 22 years. She and Jeff, her husband of 30 years, have 4 children, Emily, Madison, Abbie, and Gavin. They like to spend their vacations at the beach. Her favorite time of the year is summer because she loves to mow and work in her flowers. Shopping and antiquing are also her favorite.

Haley has been with Dr. Higginson for 3 years. She currently works as an orthodontic assistant but has spent some time at the front desk as well. When she's not working she likes to make new memories with family and friends. She also enjoys iced coffee from Dunkin' and going for walks at the park.

Leslie is a former patient of Dr. Higginson. Her own orthodontic journey created her passion for dentistry and she now works alongside Dr. Higginson as an Orthodontic Assistant. She has been married to her husband for 5 years and has two fur babies. When she isn't working she's most likely enjoying a coffee at Starbucks or relaxing at the lake.
