After graduating from Tualatin High School, Dr. James Durnin served honorably in the U. S. Navy for 4 years. Upon leaving military service, he enrolled in Oregon State University, where he graduated with a dual degree in Microbiology and Molecular Cell Biology. Dr. Durnin worked as a molecular virology researcher where he co-authored several scientific papers while working at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). Driven by an interest in patient care, Dr. Durnin pursued his dental education at OHSU School of Dentistry, completing his D.M.D. in 2013. For the first 5 years out of dental school, Dr. Durnin practiced in a large corporate practice in Corvallis, Oregon. In 2018, he purchased Hidden Springs Family Dentistry from Dr. Robert Darke and is excited to continue the legacy of exceptional patient care that Dr. Darke and team have cultivated.
Dr. Durnins areas of interest include CEREC CAD/CAM same-day crown fabrication, oral surgery, root canal treatment, sleep apnea treatment, periodontal procedures and all aspects of restorative dentistry. Dr. Durnin is inspired and motivated by a drive to pursue cutting-edge dental continuing education. He is a member of several study clubs, including the American Academy of General Dentistry Implant Study Club and the Columbia Perio Study Club.
Dr. Durnin and his partner, Sara, have two lovely children, Maxwell and Maya Grace. They enjoy spending family time together, running, outdoor sports, painting, and F1 racing. Dr. Durnin is also a big fan of Portland Thorns Soccer team and THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS.
Toby has worked as a dental assistant with Dr. Durnin for years, and started his dental assisting career in 2012, he joined Hidden Springs Family Dentistry in June of 2018. He enjoys being a part of a dedicated but fun team of dental professionals. When he is off work he enjoys motorcycle riding, surfing and all types of water sports.

I would recommend Dr Durnin to anyone seeking exceptional, individualized, compassionate dental care. Dr. Durnin and his staff use modern, state of the art technology and provide professional, kindhearted service, which was proven to me the minute I walked into the West Linn Hidden Springs Office. When I was referred to Dr. Durnin I had been struggling with a misdiagnosed oral issue for over two years. Dr. Durnin recognized the misdiagnosis and became immediately committed to actively advocating for me to find the correct diagnosis, and provide me relief. This process proved challenging and Dr. Durnin remained committed to this journey for over 9 months, sharing my health story and obtaining ongoing professional consult from two oral pathologist at OHSU, meeting regularly to obtain photo documentation over several days, coming into the office early, late and even on a Sunday (family in tow) to preform necessary procedures to obtain a diagnosis and doing research on his own time. Throughout this process Dr. Durnin and his staff showed care and support no other health provider had offered for over two years, making me feel as if my diagnosis was THE priority and effectively communicating with me with clinical reasoning behind each step , allowing me to be informed and hopeful throughout the process. Dr Durin is by far the WORST dentist I have had the surgery) t Of an ongoing "treatment" for pain I have been having for over a year, and I really don't think he knows what the problem is, let alone the solution He is refusing to adequately treat the pain I am having during this long process. His reason , he says, is because I was prescribed "a ton" (his words, really) of pain medication after a Total Knee Replacement 4 months ago, medication I stopped weeks ago. Of course I was prescribed pain medication after such a major surgery! And, I prescribed a minimal amount of pain medication after the recent oral surgery. I would describe him as completely lacking anything near compassion or caring. He is judge mental , arrogant unprofessional, and an all around terrible dentist.I have been completely mismanaged. . Sad to say.. the guy just doesn't care, and really doesn't know what he's doing I wouldn't send my worst enemy to him. Turn around is fair play, one can only hope he will be denied the medication he needs some day. I want to be clear, the issue of not addressing my dental pain needs is one thing, along with his complete lack of caring and compassion, what's really frightening is his total ineptitude as a dentist. I am 73 years old, have been to many dentists in my life, and he is by far the worst, the most incompetent and uncaring. Steer clear of this quack, there are plenty of good dentists in this area, and I will be finding one the moment this review is submitted

This dental office is teaming with knowledge, friendliness, and professionalism. Aside from dental cleanings every 6 mos, I have also undergone dental procedures. I can always count on this team to take expert care of not only my dental health, but my entire family's. Thank you, guys!!

Fantastic experience. I have lots of fillings from a lifetime of dentists. Dr. Durnin is probably the best dentist I've ever had. He has a professional and soothing manner. Firstly, his staff did a thorough cleaning and examination of my teeth. They were SO white and clean, and it was a very comfortable experience. Then, after careful examination, we decided to redo four fillings in porcelain. Now, you can't even tell I ever had a filling! I'm so pleased with my experience, I highly recommend this office. Thank you Dr. Durnin! And your staff as well.
