For three generations, Herre Holistic Dentistry has been taking care of Leawood families. Our father and grandfather, Dr. Bill Herre, first opened his practice in 1953, setting the values that laid the foundation for the Breathe to Thrive Center.
Dr. Tim founded The Breathe to Thrive Center after growing frustrated seeing the chronic disease that plagues so many Americans. As a Holistic, biological dentist he looks beyond the mouth and connects the dots between whole body health. Far too often, chronic stress, inflammation, and a poorly functioning airway are the basis of many of our modern healthcare problems. For many Americans, our modern healthcare system is set up to monitor or manage a patients symptoms versus a holistic approach that aims to treat the root cause of disease. This holistic approach is what Dr. Tim wants for his own family and it is the motivation behind him seeking out training and knowledge to help those seeking similar care sharing the whole body health philosophy.
Dr. Craig Herre enjoys teaching, coaching, and mentoring dentists which led to his partnership with Dr. Hal Stewart and the formation of The Stewart Center for Minimally Invasive Dental Medicine (formerly known as The Texas Center) in 2014. Dr. Craig Herre has been a leader in dentistry for more than three decades. In his Leawood, Kansas practice he provides comprehensive, individualized care focusing on occlusion based dentistry, diseases of the temporomandibular joint, and management of airway disorders. Together they have developed the premier training center for complete management of occlusal and airway disease, utilizing BioRejuvenation Dentistry.
As an experienced dental hygienist, I came across a lot of children who were having sleep, breathing, and behavioral problems. Those same children shared a lot of the same dental and oral characteristics. Many of them had seen doctors who had no answers (other than medication) for their issues of bedwetting, allergies, ADHD, snoring, grinding, thumbsucking, mouth breathing, etc. Many had been told they would grow out of it.

Dental cavities, ADHD, sleep apnea, obesity, diabetes and hypertension have all become so common in America that most people dont stop to ask why this is. Why does my child need braces? Why do I have a cavity? Why do I need a machine (CPAP) to sleep at night? These are all modern medical problems we consider to be normal. This is not acceptable to Dr. Tim and the team at The Breathe to Thrive Center.
We know what is happening with the health of adults and children; but is it preventable? Dr. Tim believes it is by focusing on the growth and development of our kids. This has become his passion seeing kids early in life starting at the age of 2-3 years, and now even infants. If we are able to give kids the foundation for long term health through guided growth of the jaws and face, room for all the teeth to come in straight, and a large, healthy airway, we may be able to prevent them from becoming adults with sleep apnea, TMJ, obesity, cavities, etc. How is this so? A dentist in the 1930s, Dr. Weston Price, traveled the world and found common characteristics in healthy populations. This is the information that will guide your treatment within The Breath to Thrive Center.
One of Dr. Tims goals within The Breathe to Thrive Center is creating a collaborative environment between many health care practitioners. With proper communication between those providing your treatment, the more personalized your treatment will be.

Dr. Tim starts seeing kids at age 2-3 for screening for removable growth guides. These are often called habit correctors. Dr. Tim is certified through Healthy Start and Vivos to provide this treatment.

Dr. Herre is a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Cell Biology and the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry. He is the middle dentist of a three-generation practice and currently enjoys working with his son Dr. Tim Herre. Together, they formed the first practice of this kind in the state of Kansas.
As a Top Dentist in his community and an expert in his field, Dr. Herre has extensive training in advanced methodologies for the treatment of the whole patient. Rather than just focusing on tooth problems as dentists are classically trained, he recognizes that the teeth are a part of an elaborate system. Attention must be given to diagnosis, recognition, and treatment of the entire chewing system to restore and maintain optimal health.
Dr. Herre has trained at the LD Pankey Institute, Spear Center, and is a graduate of Orognathic Bioesthetics International. He has completed countless hours of continuing education in TMD and occlusal problem and has had the opportunity to present throughout the United States. Dr. Herre is a strong advocate for organized dentistry.
Dr. Herre along with his wife Joanne enjoy spending time with their three children and six grandchildren. He enjoys fitness activities, golf, landscaping, reading and traveling. However, his passion is dentistry and giving back to the profession that has given him so much.

They were professional and accommodated a large family with a group visit to save travel time. It was the best experience we have ever had in a medical office and is a place we'd like to visit again. These are people you would visit just to chat if you could.

I've been going to Dr Herre since I've had teeth! Tim has taken over my care since he joined the practice. I can not say enough good things about this practice. They have phenomenal staff from the front door to the back office. I have a great understanding about my oral health and all the things it effects thanks to the Dental Health by Herre team. I can't say enough great things about them! Highly recommend!

Dr. Herre and Kelly are AMAZING! The whole staff goes above and beyond to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Their knowledge about dentistry in conjunction with sleep and overall health is awesome. Truly the best for me and my sons oral tie revision as well. It's amazing to find a dental office that is more holistic and looks at the "overall picture". I give them FIVE STARS and am so thankful to have found them!!!!!!

They were great with our newborn. Dr. Tim Herre is very knowledgeable so we wanted him to do the tongue and lip release on our newborn even though it would have been covered with medical insurance if we went to an ENT. He is even more well-educated on this procedure than the ENT we consulted with. We are happy with our decision.

My 3.5 week old son was diagnosed with a tongue and lip tie by a lactation consultant. Dr. Herre's office was able to get us in right away for an initial consultation. They were so good with him and quickly confirmed the diagnosis. I was nervous on the day of the procedure, but everyone in the office was so kind and reassuring! All my questions and concerns were thoroughly addressed and answered. The revision itself was done in minutes, and he was quickly brought back to me to nurse and comfort him. The results were dramatic, and he was almost immediately able to latch better! I highly recommend Dr. Herre and the office as a whole if your baby has any ties.

The dental staff at Dental Health by Herre is superb, to say the least. They have built a family dynamic that is quite refreshing to see. When you walk in, you are made to feel that you are a part of this great family too. We've been going to Herre Dental for 2 years now and it has truly been a delight. Everyone is so very warm and kind. I mean, I have literally fought the urge to fall asleep while my hygienist was cleaning my teeth. Van is wonderful! It is not the most comfortable and soothing act but they have managed to make even that feel less intense. My youngest had a frenectomy done years before we began seeing Dr. Tim. He has made tongue-ties and proper breathing a priority in his training. He and Kelly quickly recognized her limited mobility, due to her tongue tie, and made quick work of therapeutic help to support her in proper tongue function. She had severe anxiety and we never understood how that tied into her limited tongue mobility. They knew that and created a plan that helped her and she has had her anxieties lift significantly. As they check for tongue ties on all of their patients, they noticed I had one too. At this point, I was leery... I am in my late 40s and no one has ever told me such a thing. But the more I watched my daughter relax and go through her therapy and I tried to do some of the exercises... I realized I too had a tongue tie - it was more of a functional limit rather than a visually noticeable one. Dr. Tim performed my frenectomy, with Kelly assisting, and I had an immediate release of tension in my entire body. I have been struggling with awful headaches for years and tension was always present. I now feel like a completely different human. My body feels free and my tension is nearly nonexistent. I have never been happier than I have been to have this procedure done. It has truly been life changing, in that I no longer walk with constant pain of some sort. For me, it lifted that pain and I could not be more grateful. My headaches are now manageable and normal again - not a 4 or 5 day event. Kelly has been so very thorough in my therapeutic treatment after my frenectomy. They do not leave the job partially done. They make sure your tongue is doing its job properly and... knowing what I know now... the tongue has a big role in tension, when it is not functioning properly... at least it was my source of pain and tension. Thank you, Dr. Tim, Kelly, Van, and every single one of you. Thank you for your unique approach at dental health and thank you for creating such a personal and family dynamic within your team. I watch as every client enters the door and are cheerily greeted, just as you have greeted me, and I love how we all feel like your favorite.

100% recommend! We had a tongue tie revision performed by Dr. Tim Herre. He and his staff are wonderful. Trusting someone to work on your child is hard but I felt comfortable right away. We were welcomed by Jenny and she offered to rock my crying baby in her car seat while I filled out paperwork and she rocked her to sleep!! Bless her! Dr. Tim had the best bedside manners and he and his assistant Currie were very gentle and quick with the procedure on our baby. So glad we chose this practice! Thank you all!

Herre Dentistry goes out of their way to make me feel like family every time I come in for a checkup. My daughter is finally to stop attending her pediatric dentist and will begin seeing Dr. Tim this Spring. My wife is also a patient of Dr. Tim and is always very impressed with the level of care she receives as well. We are all extremely happy that the Herre practice has such a bright future ahead and will continue to go here for all of our dental needs.

I have been a patient of Dr. Tim for years and Dr. Craig before that. Both have the most wonderful bedside manner and make you feel like you are their only patient. From the doctors, to the hygienists, and front desk staff you are treated like a member of their family. Mary is the first person you see when you walk into their beautiful offices and she greets you warmly by name. This is the best dental office in town!
