Dr. Planer is originally from Gastonia, NC. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill. He continued on at Chapel Hill to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) where he graduated with honors in the top ranks of his class and was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, National Dental Honor Society. In 2012, Dr. Planer earned a general practice residency certificate with the MAHEC Dental Health Center in Asheville, NC. It was living in the Asheville area during his residency program where he and his wife fell in love with the mountains of western North Carolina and decided to live and raise their family here.
Dr. Planer is thrilled to be serving Hendersonville and the surrounding communities. He is actively involved in organized dentistry and a board member of the prestigious NC Academy of General Dentistry. He also serves as the co-chair of the NC AGD MasterTrack Continuing Education program which provides advanced learning opportunities to dentists across the state. Further, he belongs to two different Spear Study Clubs and is active in the local and State dental societies. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys good BBQ and loves to travel. He is an athlete who enjoys soccer, tennis, golf, and running.
Chris is not the only dentist in the family as his wife Dr. Jessica Planer is also a dentist. Chris and Jessica are parents to a daughter named Carsyn born in 2020 and will have another daughter arriving in March 2022! Rounding out the group of girls in the Planer household is Flossy, their miniature Labradoodle, who you may see around the office from time to time.
Dr. Chris Planer and his wife, Jessica, who are both dentists, own and operate the practice. Dr. Jessica is a born and raised North Carolinian. She attended college at UNC-Chapel Hill and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish a language that you will still hear her speaking with her patients! She stayed in Chapel Hill for dental school and then moved to Asheville with Dr. Chris to attend the MAHEC General Practice Residency Program. Dr. Jessica is still a faculty member with MAHEC and enjoys teaching both dental residents and UNC dental students.
Dr. Jessica is an active member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Buncombe County Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. She holds leadership positions in both the Buncombe County Dental Society and the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry. She has been an active member of both the Spear and Seattle Study Clubs, is committed to continuing education, and learns just as much from her residents and dental students as she teaches them!
Dr. Jessica is friendly, gentle, and has an easygoing personality. She enjoys being physically active and played almost every sport you could think of growing up. Outside of work you can find her riding her Peloton bike or enjoying the outdoors with Dr. Chris, their daughter, and their dog Flossy.

As usual, I was greeted immediately with a warm welcome. I did not have to wait to be taken back to a treatment room, nor did I have to wait for my cleaning. The cleaning was thorough and pleasant and the dental technician was friendly. After the cleaning and x-rays, Dr. Planer reviewed my history and performed an exam. He clearly explained his findings and recommended a course of treatment. Finally, I received a fluoride treatment, I have been a patient of this practice for more than 10 years, and have consistently received great care in a caring family like environment. I should also mention the fine quality of service by the office administrative staff.

I was so impressed by everyone. Was greeted at front desk with a warm and kind receptionist. The technician was so kind and tried to make me comfortable. Dr.Planer explained everything to me with pictures on a screen. Very thorough.

If you have high anxiety towards going to the dentist, THIS is where you need to be. The level of kindness, patience, professionalism, and knowledge from Dr. Planer and his staff is unparalleled. Amy the hygenist gave me the best and least painful cleaning i've had. The most impressive quality is how thorough Dr. Planer is. At the end of my initial appointment, he actually sat down in an office with me for more than 20 minutes to review my xrays and images and explained his thoughts and recommendations in detail. I was absolutely blown away. Today was my second appointment, and Dr. Planer called me himself to follow up and see how I was doing. It's rare to meet a doctor that takes the time to call the patient himself rather than having the assistant make the call. To put it simply, my husband and I are blown away by their level of care. I am finally not afraid to go to the dentist.

Extremeley pleased with every aspect of this practice. My husband and I are new to the area and needed to establish a relationship with a new dentist. Dr Planer and his staff were professional, pleasant, knowledgeable and highy skilled. You can feel confident entrusting your dental care to them! I had one of the BEST cleanings by Amy that I've ever experienced. I have all caps/crowns and I really feel comfortable with Dr Planer taking over for my previous California cosmetic dentist.and his support staff is exceptional!

I had the nicest and most pleasant office visit at H.P.D. I am a new patient and very impressed with how organized, professional, kind and attentive everyone treated me. It was a long first visit and I did not realize how long because I felt so special and actually enjoyed my special treatment by everyone. This is so unusual for a visit to a dental appointment.
