Dr. Smith graduated from the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry and completed his General Practice Residency at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. He enjoys dentistry, outdoor activities and photography.
Dr. Welch was born and raised in Havre, Montana and attended undergraduate college at Montana State University. He then graduated from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine and completed an additional year of advanced training at Idaho State University in Boise, Idaho. He enjoys dentistry, playing music, the outdoors, and spending time with his wife and three kids.
Our team at Helena Family Dentistry enjoys what they do, who they work with, and where they work. They stay current with the latest ideas and technologies through attendance at continuing education courses, and by reading professional journals. They apply this knowledge to improve their ability to care for and educate patients with a compassionate and comprehensive approach. Outside of the office, our staff spend time with their families and enjoy living in Montana.

Staff was friendly, warm and inviting. Offices and exam rooms were clean and comfortable. Dr. Welch was kind and gave thorough explanations of each step of the exam. Nobody tried to sell me a product or service I didn't need. It was a low pressure, professional environment. Will definitely return.

11/3/2022 - great service, from front desk staff to hygienist to Dr. Dr. Smith (John to me after knowing him for 25 years and going on numerous wilderness hikes with him) has given me excellent oral care over the years. I had recently been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and was waking up 6-8 times a night. I didn't do well with the CPAP machine and declined to use one at home and just figured I would have to live with it. On a visit to "John's" office for a biannual cleaning, I updated my patient history on the computer to reflect the apnea. John must actually read those computerized patient notes and he queried me about the apnea and said that he had experienced good results by having his patients use a mouth guard that manipulated the lower jaw to keep the airway open during sleep. Long story short, using the mouth guard John made for me, I wake up 0-1 times a night. It has dramatically improved the quality of my sleep! Going on a trip, I may leave my cell phone, I may forget my wife, but I don't forget my mouth guard.

This is a dentist I look forward to visiting! Nestled in the Southernmost block of the walking mall, it feels like walking back into a more quaint time. Everyone is so friendly and the dentists are conversational and inquisitive. I've been coming here for 8 years and have always been made to feel welcome. Thanks, everyone!!!

I absolutely love this dentist office!! I first started coming when I was a VISTA on Medicaid and haven't been anywhere else since! From the moment you come in, you can tell people enjoy their jobs here because everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I've seen Dr. Smith and Dr. Welch and they're both knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend this office and staff!!

Up until my last appointment this place was great. Dentist was wonderful and most of the staff were amazing. However this last appointment I encountered one of the front desk staff being completely disrespectful, rude, and unprofessional. I will find a new dentist office.
