Dr. Valerie Mukanga received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Following her graduation, she completed a General Practice Residency program at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in New York City.
Dr. Mukanga was one of the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. During that tragic time, various people from the DFW helped her back on her feet. Therefore, following the completion of her dental education, she purposely returned to the Dallas area to give back to the community that selflessly helped her during one of the toughest times of her life.
Growing up, Dr. Mukanga encountered dental disparities herself, in her family and in her community. Dental diseases can not only cause pain, low self-esteem, but in extreme cases, death. Sadly, Dr. Mukanga lost one of her dear uncles due to dental infection. This is one of the reasons why she is determined to fight against dental diseases and have a positive impact on peoples dental health. Prior to pursuing her education as a dentist, Dr. Mukanga established Healing Wings Inc, a nonprofit organization that was based in Dallas, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of proper oral hygiene. For Dr. Mukanga, dentistry is not an option. It is a mission.
Born in Brussels, Belgium, raised in Africa and having lived more than half of her life in the United States, Dr. Mukanga is well equipped to providing care to people of various backgrounds. She speaks English and French fluently and has some working knowledge of Spanish. Her belief is that language or culture differences are no barrier to people because a caring heart speaks louder than words.

I recently completed my first visit with Healing Wings Dental, and I am very pleased with my experience. I was able to get an appointment right away. Dr. Valerie was awesome, as well as, her staff! After a long time searching for the right fit for me, I have found a new dentist!! Thank you Healing Wings Dental!!

This office is absolutely amazing! The entire staff makes you feel right at home. They were great with both of my kids! I truly can't say enough about them, I even sent my parents there!

Just had my first visit/consultation at Healing Wings Dental, and was so pleased with their service. Staff was very welcoming and friendly, and office was clean and professional. They listened to my concerns and made me feel very comfortable. They took precautions to make sure I was not actively contagious, and every treatment room I passed by, or went in, was sanitized, neat, and orderly. The technicians were kind, caring and personable, and Dr. Mukanga was absolutely amazing!! I got a thorough, yet painless cleansing/plaque scraping and left feeling brand new, with a clear knowledge of what my issues were and a proper treatment plan/quote. I never felt pressured, and overall it was a wonderful experience. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

I had a painful tooth but hadn't yet established a dentist in TX. Called another place and set up a same day appointment only for them to cancel less than an hour before I was scheduled to be there. Thankfully Google lead me to Healing Wings !!! They were able to fit me in within an hour!!! Not only did they make the pain go away but they did a full cleaning and 2 fillings on the spot! The receptionist, dental hygienist, and doctor were the best of the best! I kept receiving apologies for the time I spent there but that was not at all necessary. They made sure I was taken care of. I set appointments for the rest of my family and this is our new dentist! Glad I found them!

They are so so sweet and gentle, they listened to me and made me feel so comforted. They also tried their best to get things covered by my insurance so I could afford the services. Best place I've been to!

I had an unexpected tooth repair needed and couldn't get in to my dentist. Remembered Healing Wings and was able to get in the same day. Service was efficient, very reasonably priced and everyone was very nice. I will be.a return patient! Love this place and the dentist!!

We had a great experience! I was nervous bringing my frightened, crying 3 year old to his cleaning. He had a bad experience at another place and remembered. Everyone was so kind and patient with him! He left happy and his teeth look great! I will be coming back for myself and kids. Next time we will have no fear or tears!

Best dental experience of my life. Receptionists give you clear estimates of insurance vs. out of pocket costs, the dental tech is all very new, and they even have Netflix on the ceiling. I felt cared for and seen. Thank you Dr. Mukanga!
