Dr. Mai-Trinh Nguyen is an Orange County native. She grew up in Irvine and has ties to the community. Her undergraduate studies was at the University of California, Irvine in Biological Science. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at University of Southern California, a nationally recognized dental school, in 1997. To stay current and technically skilled in the latest dental technology, Dr. Mai-Trinh Nguyen takes continuing education courses that focus on minimally invasive treatment. She enjoys providing patients with cosmetic treatment that improves their self-confidence. In her free time, she loves to travel all over the world with her husband and two boys. She also relaxes by taking cooking classes abroad and experimenting on her family.
Dr. Phuong-Trinh Nguyen initially studied psychology before getting her degree in Biological Science at the University of California, Irvine. She attended the University of Southern California School of Dentistry the same year as her sister Dr. Mai-Trinh Nguyen. After graduating in 1997, she returned to USC as a part-timevolunteer in the preclinical Restorative Department. Dr. Phuong-Trinh Nguyen believes trust and a comprehensive approach is the key to providing her patients with optimal care. One of her strengths is working with apprehensive patients to overcome their anxiety. Currently, she is a clinical staff at the UCI Student Health Dental Clinic. Outside the office, she enjoys volunteering at her girls extracurricular activities. Her favorite pastime is to unwind with a good novel or watch old classical movies.
Kimberly was recognized as a 2014 recipients of the Sunstar Americas/RDH Magazines Award of Distinction for her commitment to help access care for patients with special needs. She graduated from Cypress College with a dental hygiene license in 2005 and completed her alternative practice license from W. Los Angeles College in 2011. This license enables her to specialize in home bound dental hygiene care for the elderly and disabled. Kimberly was also a recipient of the ADHA/Wrigleys Community Service Grants in 2012 and the ADHA/Colgate Community Outreach Award in 2013 for spearheading the free dental clinic program for homeless women and children in Orange County.
Gail has over 30 years of experience in the dental field. She started out as an RDA and found her niche as an office manager. Originally from Hawaii she tries to keep the Aloha Spirit alive in the office. She will go out of her way to help patients with insurance and financial concerns. Gail loves the beach, desert, hiking, music, and raising as many different color plumerias as she can.
Tanya received her dental assistant license in 2007 and soon after began working in the field of Endodontics. She then continued her experience in an office focused on General/Cosmetic Dentistry. Tanya is currently pursuing her RDA license. In her spare time she volunteers at the Orange County Dental Hygienists Societys Free Dental Clinic. Tanya is an animal lover and enjoys football and gatherings with family and friends.

I've been under the care of Dr. Nguyen for the past 8 years. She would always ask me many questions, teach me regarding preventative care and would make sure that she addresses my needs. She is a wonderful doctor, very caring and professional. She can apply anesthesia in the most gentle way possible. I love their teeth cleanings as they are very thorough and detailed. Dr. Nguyen goes beyond and above and has accommodated my appointments for early in the day when needed. I highly recommend this dental practice!

Today my first time going and it was for a clean up. I have received many clean ups from other dentist offices and I have never experienced a doctor so calm, focused , and very great at explaining what you have wrong/not wrong about you. Dr phoung went into some deep cleaning in my opinion for what was simply a regular clean up. Selene and her other coworkers are nice and helpful as well, I'll be coming back for more work with them since they are a professional group

I am a new patient and I'm very pleased with my experience. I can say I have found my dental office I will be using for all my dental needs. The staff is very friendly and make me feel very comfortable. The place is very clean and the Dr. really cares about you. They didn't make me feel like I was just another paycheck like I know other place can. I highly recommend them!

I always experienced great care with Drs. Nai and Phuong. They explain what they are doing and why. Due to a change in insurance, I had to change dentists. It was then that I realized how exceptional they are. I am happily back at HB Family Dentistry and the great care and customer service I missed.

Dr. Mai, staff, and their practices are highly professional and caring compassion. My previous dentist was a relative of my in-laws and a 45 minute+ drive away. After 2 missed cleanings, suddenly a year had passed, and I realized it was time to find someone closer to home. My first appointment with HB Family Dentistry was in February 2020, for dental cleaning. The dental hygienist was so thorough. I thought she gave me a deep clean but it turns out that was mostly the normal cleaning. Afterwards, I met Dr. Mai. I felt like I was meeting a friend who happened be an excellent dentist. She took time to do a complete exam while spotting a few cavities. These needed follow up appointments. She would also explained things well by setting expectations before, during and after the appointment. This has been a consistent trait of hers and office staff. I also have TMJ, and my jaw tends to lock open after 10 minutes of any cleaning or dental work. They were mindful to give my jaw mini breaks to rest. Both continually asked how I was feeling. My follow up appointment was in March. Yet like everywhere else, COVID changed everything. The office continued their professionalism with phone calls and text messages. In May, I had a random growth under my tongue. I called and left a message with the office. Dr. Mai called me back within a day and advised a course of treatment and followed up with care. Ultimately, she referred me to an oral surgeon, and it was taken care of. By June, the office opened and it was my first medical appointment since shelter-in-place orders started in March. For me, they really set the bar of excellence high. I would later compare them to other offices. They were on it from the beginning by: asking patients to call upon arrival, temp check, filling out forms, asking health screening questions, sanitizing hands, rinsing mouth out with Listerine, doctor wearing a face shield, masks, double gowns, gloves, air purifiers in each room, etc. I felt really safe and comfortable walking into their office and sitting in the exam chair. As we talked, I learned of the myriad of classes and webinars she attended to be kept up to date the latest CDC and dental association guidelines. I really appreciated her and her staff's serious efforts. Their strength is in the details. Lastly the front office, Gail and Rose, have consistently communicated clearly regarding what my insurance covers verses what I would pay, before any procedures took place. I really appreciate the follow up calls and text messages to remind me of my appointments. A couple of times I had to cancel due to illness. They were very understanding while working with me to reschedule. I would highly recommend seeing HB Family Dentistry. They are a private practice, tight knit staff, treating patients and one another with respect, care, compassion, and the upmost professionalism.

I recently left my dentist of 35 years to go to Dr. Mai at HB Family Dentistry since my MIL and husband have been patients for years. I had a filling that needed to be replaced and I'm horrible with needles. Dr. Mai was so gentle and reassuring. FIVE STARS!!

today was my first visit to hb family dentistry, changing dentists after over 30 years at my previous dental office. my old one had gone too corporate and was constantly upselling. today's appointment was with dr. mai trinh nguyen who did a very thorough examination and provided as much information as i needed and wanted. the teeth cleaning was done by hannah, who was quick and painless. afterwards, i was presented with written estimates for future procedures i had discussed with dr. nguyen. the office manager, gail, was very pleasant and helpful, particularly about investigating insurance coverage. overall, it was a very positive experience and i am looking forward, as much as one can, to my return visits.

I have been coming here for several years and the entire staff is always wonderful. I used to have pretty bad dental anxiety and Drs Nguyen and hygienist Kim go out of their way to put me at ease. I have gone in for routine cleanings and had wisdom teeth removed. Though having teeth removed can be scary, they helped me to feel safe and at ease. Thanks for always providing a nice and easy dental experience!

This dental office is amazing!!! I have been going to HB Family Dentistry for over a year now and the staff is just so great! Dr. Mai Nguyen has been my dentist for the past 15 years. I live in Tustin and followed her from the Newport Beach office to Huntington Beach and would drive even a farther distance to go to her dental practice. I have had several dentists and numerous procedures including bridges, crowns, veneers and implants over the years. I highly recommend Dr. Nguyen to all my friends and family. Her superb dentistry skills are unmatched! She is a perfectionist, gentle, and honest. Kim is my hygienist and is the best I've ever had. Dr. Phuong Nguyen has an outstanding reputation, as well. I do not have insurance and find their prices quite reasonable. The office is equipped with the latest equipment and is absolutely spotless. The smiling staff provides a warm and friendly atmosphere. I drive from LA to see Dr Nguyen! The staff is great, it feels like a family. I have never had to have a filling in 38 years and was a nervous. They made it so comfortable and painless! Always great monitoring, cleanings, and I trust their recommendations so much! With the drive! And they won't charge you for things you don't need!

I had a filling done today on a pretty terrible tooth. The doctors and staff have all been so amazing. During the filling process the doctor kept checking up to make sure I was feeling okay, which I really appreciated. They take care of the whole family. My 5 year old daughter just loves them! I have been a patient for almost 20 years. As someone who grew up to be terrified of the dentist, I always appreciate how kind and gentle they are. They are very conservative with any diagnosis and are concerned for my whole dental health.

I experienced dental service from both Dr. Phuong and Dr. Mai and they were always very nice, caring, and personable. I did not have a main dentist for so long and was glad I was able to find HB Family Dentistry as my provider. At first, I was very nervous to see a dentist after so long. However, they were so relaxed and chill about everything, making it so easy for me to find comfort. I also find that it is helpful that they can text you for appointments, and I really appreciate that they work around my busy work schedule. I am lucky that my search for a good dental office has ended and that I am in the great hands of Dr. Phuong and Dr. Mai.
