Anchorage dentist, Dr. Hawkinson began her career in oral health as a Registered Dental Hygienist almost a decade ago. Ive wanted to be a dentist ever since I had braces at the age of 10, she says. I can remember the feeling I experienced having beautiful teeth and I wanted to bring that same experience to as many people as possible. After graduating from dental hygiene school at the University of Alaska Anchorage, she practiced a few years and then returned to dental school at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine.
When it comes to patient care, Dr. Hawkinson believes that patients deserve to be an integral part of the dental team. I think its important to give people options, she says, and to let them be a part of the decision-making process regarding their dental treatment.
Dr. Hawkinson believes that one of the most rewarding things about being a family dentist is caring for people of all ages and giving them the confidence to smile. Serving families is her passion, and she describes her favorite days in the office as the ones where she gets to see all of the members of an entire household on the same day!
As a born and raised Alaskan, Dr. Hawkinson was happy to return to the state after attending dental school in Arizona. She and her husband Sean have two elementary-aged children and spend as much time as possible on their dirt bikes or at their weekend cabin on the Kenai (Sean is an avid fisherman!). Growing up, Dr. Hawkinson spent quality time with her brother and father riding dirt bikes, so shes thrilled to share that same love with a family of her own.
Jackie has over a decade of dental experience and is an active member of the American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM). I love making a positive difference in peoples smiles, she says, treating patients with respect, and respecting the patients that we treat.
Her favorite part of working in dentistry is the time that she gets to spend with her patients. She says that shes met many wonderful people in her 30+ year career and that many of those long-lasting relationships are from as many as four generations of the same families! Mary says that her top priorities are to provide quality care with honesty, integrity, and trust.
As the practices lead assistant, Abby assists Dr. Hawkinson when it comes to conducting most restorative and cosmetic procedures. Shes always happy to answer any questions that our patients have and assuring that theyre comfortable throughout their visit. Dentistry can often cause anxiety for some people, she says, and one of the many things I enjoy is easing those anxieties to make people feel more relaxed.
Dien moved to Alaska from Tacoma, Washington in 1996 and graduated from Alaska Career College as a Certified Medical Assistant in 2011. She truly enjoyed working in the medical field, and was also able to cross-train as a receptionist. I had so much fun greeting patients, she said, that I decided to move on and work in the dental field as a receptionist.

As the daughter of a retired dental hygienist, I grew up in close proximity to amazing dental practices and have high standards for my dental care. I had my first appointment with Dr. Hawkinson and her team today and was very impressed with the entire office. The front desk staff was kind and courteous when I had a mix up with my appointment time and accidentally arrived an hour early. They worked to accommodate my early arrival and moved things around so that I was able to start my visit with Dr. Hawkinson. Dr. Hawkinson was gentle and took her time to answer questions I had, offering options and suggested timelines for future care. My hygienist, Chiemi, asked great questions, made sure I was comfortable in her chair, and went out of her way to offer desensitizing solution when I shared about some minor root exposure that usually makes cleanings painful (I've never had a hygienist offer this to me and was so grateful!). Overall, I'm really looking forward to my next appointment and was beyond pleased with the level of care and kindness found at this practice. Thank you all for an amazing visit!

My appointment was at 1pm and I was seen as soon as i checked in and sat down. Ellen was very thorough and explained everything clearly. Dr Hawkinson was very professional and thorough as well. This was my first visit and I'm overall impressed.

Dr. Hawkinson and her entire staff are amazing! I had some lack of self care for a long while due to mental health issues and my teeth suffered from it. Dr. Hawkinson was so kind and patient and understanding with me. She made me feel completely comfortable and not embarrassed whatsoever. She fixed all the issues with my teeth without judgement and with sharp, precise skill. I trust Dr. Hawkinson 100% with my medical treatment in her office! The women who work in her office, especially Jackie, seriously are THE BEST! Everyone at Hawkinson Dental are just so so so caring and really genuinely want to help people, and it definitely shows! My smile is absolutely beautiful again, it's now the best it's ever been and looks dynamite thanks to Dr. Hawkinson, her Dental hygienist, and ALL the other team members at her office! I couldn't be happier!

I had an excellent experience here! They got me in quickly, called with a rundown of what my insurance covered, and had print out of my insurance coverage waiting for me when I arrived. Everyone working here was extremely friendly and made me feel comfortable, my filling took about 20 mins and I was on my way! Overall everything went incredibly smooth and I will be returning for all my future dental needs.

I was a 18 year long patient with Dr. McBratney, and I'm couldn't be more pleased with the continuation of excellent care I receive since Dr. Hawkinson has taken over the practice. Her and her staff care about about their patients and me and my family have never had an experience below excellent. I would recommend this dental office to anyone.

Last week, I decided to switch from my old dentist's office to Hawkinson Family Dental of Anchorage. In less than 5 mins I knew I made the correct decision for my family and I's dental needs. I'm like most people who automatically have a terrible feeling about going to the dentist, but from the moment I walked in the door, I felt a sense of assurance come over me. The office was inviting, bright, very comfortable, it had a modern feel to it. The receptionist Shyanne was friendly and knowledgeable and explained everything in such detail. My dental hygienist was Chiemi she was funny and professional I couldn't believe how thoroughly clean my teeth were. Dr. Hawkinson found a small cavity that no other Doctor has been able to find, she was able to move some things around on the schedule and got me in ASAP. On the day of my cavity filing, my dental assistant was Dien she is very personable and inviting, she made me feel at home and very relaxed. She explained in such detail what was going to happen once the Doctor started the procedure. Dr. Hawkinson came in and also took the time to explain the whole procedure. She was very knowledgeable and professional. She fixed my cavity and made it painless, I was so comfortable I nearly forgot what was going on in my mouth. The procedure rooms have multiple tv's one of which is on the ceiling keep you intrigued on whatever show is on. (amazing set up in the office by the way). I hope you took the time to read this long review. I made the smart decision to entrust Dr. Hawkinson and her fabulous team with my family and I's dental needs, you should too!
