As a youngster growing up and surfing in Southern California, he always dreamed of one day surfing and living in Hawaii. At the age of fifteen, his dream came true when he was introduced to a kamaaina (local) family from Kaneohe, Oahu who became his hanai (adopted) parents. He knew early on that he wanted to help people as he had seen the work of his hanai parents who were social workers for rural community projects on the windward side of Oahu.
As a student at Windward Community College in Kaneohe, he enjoyed surfing in between his studies and eventually became a City & County of Honolulu lifeguard for the east, north, and south shores. Lifeguarding helped pay his way toward his college education at Chaminade University of Honolulu and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Dr J was inspired to enter dentistry after meeting several Honolulu doctors during a gathering of alumni from the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry. He decided to apply, was accepted, and graduated in 1996 from the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry in San Francisco.
After graduating, Dr Js work experience throughout California and Micronesia provided the foundation for his return home to begin helping people in the community. Kauai was the ideal place to establish his practice and begin serviceplus theres great surf!
Dr J lives in Wailua Homesteads with his wife Napu, who also surfs and their son James who is currently serving with the U.S. Coast Guard. When the Jaurequis arent in the water together or with friends, they are busy tending to their fruit trees, laying hens, and beehives on their property.

Dr. Jarequi is always busy, but he makes sure to address all of your needs and he really cares about each patient. My dental situation is very complicated, but he's helped me by coming up with the best treatment plan to reach my goals. He always gives you all of the options, and explains each one to help you decide what is best for you. I'm very satisfied having found a wonderful dentist on Kauai who can do everything from cavities, to root canals, to implants! I recommend him to all of my friends and family. Dr. Jarequi is the best!

nicest group of people here. dr. randall is very knowledgeable and explains everything. Melanie is now my favorite hygienist in 50 years. I highly suggest asking for her. I normally dont like dentist appointments until now. what a great team here.

The Hawaiian island dental team provided great customer service and dental care! From the receptionist to the hygienist, to the dentist himself demonstrated patient care. Open to questions and guidance along the procedure since I was new this particular procedure. The receptionist had a great personality, the dentist was kind, thoughtful and thorough. Way to go team! Keep up the great work!!

I broke a crown while on vacation and called the office for an emergency visit. Marie the receptionist was so nice on the phone and was able to schedule me an appointment on an hours notice. The doctor fixed my tooth and I was able to continue my vacation without issues!! Thank you Hawaiian Island Dentistry for your kindness!
