Dr. Miyai has been setting the highest standards of excellence in orthodontics for over 5 years. Dr. Miyai earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and his dental degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he was honored with the title of valedictorian, as well as several other academic honors. Dr. Miyai then went on to complete a specialized post-graduate residency in orthodontics from Louisiana State University in New Orleans. After several years as an associate orthodontist, Dr. Miyai returned home to Hawaii to open his own private practice on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.
Dr. Miyai enjoys giving back to his community through charitable work via the Shriners Hospital for Children. In his spare time, he likes to read, work out, fish, hike, cook, and spend time with his family and friends.
A native Floridian, Dr. Alex earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Central Florida in 2012. He attended Nova Southeastern University, where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2016. Committed to representing his colleagues, he served as the president of his class and executive president of student government for the College of Dental Medicine. As a result of his leadership, he was honored to receive numerous awards, including the prestigious College of Dental Medicine Student of the Year award. Following dental school, Dr. Alex attended a three-year postgraduate residency in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the Georgia School of Orthodontics.
Dr. Alex is a lifelong learner and stays up to date on progressive orthodontic techniques and procedures. Dedicated to the highest standards of care for his patients, he completed the optional board certification process and is an active Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. In his free time, Dr. Alex enjoys photography, aviation, hiking, fishing, fitness, playing a variety of instruments and spending time with family and friends.

We were here on vacation and my daughter's ortho wire was digging into her cheek and causing a lot of pain. I called their office and they got us in that same day. They clipped the wire that was going into her cheek. They wouldn't take payment for what they did so I thought I would write a review. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. She was able to enjoy the rest of our vacation. You are the absolute best!!!!

We were visiting from out of town and my son had an orthodontic emergency. He was very uncomfortable. The staff here got us in right away and fixed the problem enabling us to enjoy the rest of our time there. I had called other orthodontists who I think wanted to take advantage of our visiting status and charge a premium on their services. The cost here was fair, the employees were so kind and competent. We were grateful to find them.

I've been coming here for about 3 years. The team is always so nice and they are true professionals! I came in because I thought they could fix my chipped front tooth. Turns out, they do not offer this service. Samantha recommended Dr Baxter at Kahului Dental . I went over there right after my appointment at HSD and they saw me right away and fixed my front tooth! I'm so happy Samantha recommended them to me. Now, I have a beautiful smile without the chipped front tooth. Thank you Samantha, the HSD team, and the team at Kahului Dental!

Had an emergency with a wire coming loose and hurting our 13 year old's gums to a point where he could barely eat. We're visiting from Chicago and Hawaii Smile Designs accommodated us in the morning when we called. Worth noting is that a couple of other places that we called could not help for various reasons. The point to stress here besides the accommodation and resolution of the problem is just how friendly, understanding and helpful they were. Highly recommended. Hawaii Smile Designs really saved our vacation as I don't know what would have happened otherwise. Thank you!!!!

Poke Wire? No more...was on the first day of my 2 week vacation when my top wire started 'poke'ing my cheek. Super bummed as it was really affecting my eating experience in paradise. One phone call and I was in the next day where April and Dr. Verga repositioned the wire, handed me some bees wax and I was on my way. Super happy now. Mahola and big Aloha to the front office for squeezing me in on short notice.

I used HSD for Invisalign treatment and I'm really happy with the results. The process took longer than expected due to two rounds of "refinements" after treatment to fix my bite and some stubborn teeth. However, this was all included with the original treatment/contract price -- there were no additional fees. If you want to fix your teeth & bite, I highly recommend that you setup a consultation with HSD to go over your options. The staff is very friendly, the technology is state-of-the-art, and they'll give you flexible payment options.
