Dr. Doug is a third-generation dentist.A graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts in biology,he received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988, as well as his orthodontic specialty certificate in 1991.
Harte Orthodontics is Dr. Dougs second family, and he is currently treating second- and third-generation patients. He takes great pride in the fact that Harte Orthodontics is a TRUE family practice that continues to span generations. He states, We were here for your parents, we are here today for you, and we will be here for your children.
Dr. Doug is the Past-Presidentof the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists.He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, New Jersey Association of Orthodontists, New Jersey Dental Association, and Tri-County(Sussex) and Essex County Dental Societies,as well as the Tweed Orthodontic Society,Academy for Sports Dentistry and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.Dr. Doug takes more than 40 hours of continuing education each year to keep up on the latest technologies for his patients.
He has lectured nationally to orthodontic and dental societies about orthodontics for children, adults, sports dentistry, and specialized cases. He has appeared numerous times on TV, including Eyewitness News, Good Morning America, and Live at 5. His TV programs have addressed such topics as adult orthodontics and early treatment for underbites, utilizing new technologies, and state-of-the-art treatment.
Dr. Doug enjoys giving back to the community in many ways. Each year he gives a renowned dental education program to more than 3,000 local students in elementary and pre-school. The kids love his humor, enthusiasm, and giant toothbrush, according to local teachers and principals. Parents have responded by saying that after Dr. Hartes visit to school, they cant wait to brush and floss. His motivational skills are amazing!
Dr. Doug is a youth basketball, soccer, and baseball coach in addition to sponsoring scores of youth sports teams over the years. Dr. Doug loves to give something back to the community at every chance he can, because it gave so much to him when he was young.
When hes not in the office, you will probably find Dr. Doug sailing the oceans of the world, skiing, playing guitar and ukulele, golfing, and of course, playing with his two little kids. He is also an avid travel photographer and painter.
Dr. Lawrence Harte is a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School.He received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College, and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Pennsylvania.Dr. Harte received his orthodontic training at the Eastman Center at the University of Rochester.
Dr. Larry chose orthodontics when, at the age of 20, he researched career aptitude selections. He read the following: likes to sculpt, loves kids, enjoys being involved with the community, and is very fussy. The answer was orthodontics! Says Dr. Larry, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to change peoples lives. My ultimate goal is to have every patient leave our office with renewed confidence, a feeling of self-esteem from a great experience, and, of course, an incredible smile.
Dr. Larry has lectured internationally and written numerous scientific articleswhich have appeared in a variety of professional publications. He is one of the pioneers in the treatment of patients in a caring and professional manner.
He is a lecturer and a leader in the American Association of Orthodontics, past president of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontics, and he currently represents the profession in Washington, DC as a member of the Council on Governmental Affairs. Dr. Larry has also been chairman of the Public Health Council of New Jersey, a prestigious position that addresses the health of all citizens of the state.
Dr. Larry has three children: Jonathan, a physician, mountain climber and skier in Colorado; Helaine, a marketing major and triathlete; and Doug, a world-class sailor who shares the practice with him.
From a personal point of view, Dr. Larry has interests in cartooning, sculpting, and directing television shows. He is the founder of the Facial and Cosmetic Enhancement Center of New Jersey, is a National Geographic traveler and sailor, and enjoys writing poetry.

As an adult considering orthodontics treatment and also being an attorney who tends to overanalyze things before making a final decision, I did a considerable amount of research before choosing Harte Orthodontics. After having met with several doctors for consultations, I immediately decided upon Dr. Harte from my initial visit to his office. As soon as you walk into the Harte Orthodontics' office, you know you are in good hands - from the professionalism and pleasantness of his team, the high tech equipment and lighthearted, good natured spirit of Dr. Harte himself (who seems to rub off his positive vibe on everyone he meets). Moreover, as a second generation orthodontist who clearly loves his work, Dr. Harte is a true artisan of the trade. I have just successfully completed my treatment going from very crooked teeth to a perfect smile. Being very happy with the results, I have just convinced my wife to go to him and will be taking my 3 children to him as well. To that end, it goes without saying that I recommend Harte Orthodontics without any reservation. Dr. Harte and his team are, by far, best in class!

First time visiting the office. Clean and comfortable. The staff attended to us promptly and had us rolling along. Great experience for my son and myself. All the staff were professionals as expected. They all had pleasant voices and personalities with a smile, which to me was a plus. The doctor was playful and gave you his full attention. Not like some offices were they rush you in and out. Again the pleasant, personality of the doctor made us feel comfortable. Being from the area also made conversation fun. We look forward to having Harte be our Orthodontics. Thank you again.

I needed a permanent change; dental reconstruction that wouldn't falter. Dr. Harte gave me that. A professional and an empathetic hand, Dr Harte, carried me through the process with ease and minimal pain. All I need now is a good whitening toothpaste. Lol

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Harte! I started going to him years ago when I needed braces and it was such a positive experience. Fast forward 15 years later, I had a little trouble with my retainer and nothing changed! Dr. Harte and his team are all so welcoming and personable. The offices (I have been to both, Sparta & Livingston) are extremely clean and in convenient locations. They are also great about shifting their schedule to accommodate you. I highly recommend Dr. Harte!

Highly recommend Dr. Harte! They did a beautiful job and were accurate in their time estimate for how long they would be on and they were very quick with each appointment with no waiting. Very efficiently run office and if you have a broken wire they get you in very quickly.

Wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff is pleasant, the office efficient and Dr. Harte is great with the kids. Dr. Harte easily engages with the kids and tells the parents what they need to know. Thank you Dr. Harte for my kids' beautiful smiles.

FIVE STARS FOR SURE!!!!!!!!!! I cannot say enough about this practice !!!!! Both Dr Hartes and ALL of the staff have been AMAZING throughout the entire experience from palate expanders to spacers to braces to retainers !!!! My 2 daughters are officially done with braces and I must say I will actually miss going to the orthodontist office .... best experience ever!!!!!
