Dr. Leslie Hargis chose the dental field as it is the perfect balance of serving others, art, and science. Dr. Gerald Hargis is not only her father, but business partner and mentor. Dr. Gerald Hargis has been practicing dentistry in downtown Burlington since 1979. Leslie is thrilled to carry on the family practice and share this professional experience working alongside him. She greatly values the family tradition of treating and serving the community for another 30 years!
Dr. Hargis is a native of Burlington, NC. In 2010, she graduated from UNCs Dental Hygiene program. She continued her studies at the UNC School of Dentistry, graduating in 2017 with her Doctorate in Dental Science. This past year, she completed a Geriatric Fellowship, which was a collaborative research project between the UNC schools of medicine and dentistry based around delivering advanced care planning and advanced directives to patients and families. Dr. Hargis is especially passionate about treating the geriatric population as there is great treatment need in this area.
When she isnt working, Dr. Hargis enjoys traveling with her high school sweetheart and husband of 6 years, Ryan. They have two pets together, a Shih-Tzu Rylie, and Tabby Cat, Winifred. She spends some of her free time volunteering at various opportunities within the community through The Lambs Chapel. Dr. Hargis-Fuller is very passionate in her faith, nature, and her love for animals. She gives all glory and thanks to God and looks forward to the journey ahead at Hargis Family Dentistry!
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Valerie Acquesta to our practice family at Hargis Family Dentistry. Dr. Acquesta is a proud native of our beautiful state of North Carolina. She chose to pursue dentistry because of its ability to impact a patients health and self-confidence all in a single visit.
She graduated from James Madison University with a bachelors degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders; she then spent two years teaching young adults with autism. After this, she returned to school to pursue a career in dentistry at the UNC School of Dentistry, graduating with her Doctorate in Dental Surgery.
During her studies at UNC, Dr. Acquesta developed a passion for general dentistry and the ability to foster long-lasting relationships with her patients. She is excited to grow and become part of the family at Hargis Family Dentistry! When Dr. Acquesta is not practicing dentistry, she loves traveling, nurturing her plant family and spending time with her real family.

You would not meet someone more reluctant to go to the dentist than myself. I have been to many dentist's over the years, and this is by far my favorite one. Everyone on staff is excellent. My family and I know we are in good hands here. Several procedures have been done here and all have been done with great care, and attention. I would highly recommend Dr Valerie, and all the staff to be receptive and attentive to your needs.

I have been coming to this place since I was a little girl and they have always taken the very best care of me. Everyone on staff is so caring and dedicated. I don't know what I'd do without them helping me with my teeth through the years and doing their best to calm my anxieties. Very thankful to Carla especially. This is by far the best dentistry practice in the area.

I have pretty bad dental anxiety (if I do say so myself), and typically I have to mental prepare myself for an appointment a day or two in advance. Today, I called Hargis Family Dentistry as a new patient and due to a cancellation they were able to get me in (my nerves were through the roof). I walked in and was greeted with smiles, I explained my anxiety situation and was walked through the entire process start to finish. THANK YOU CARLA!! Thank you for explaining and asking if I needed breaks and if I was ok and singing and talking with me.

I had such high anxiety about going to the dentist due to a terrible past experience. Recently my husband had a toothache and needed to be seen immediately. I decided to try Hargis after hearing multiple raving reviews. I thought it was an exaggeration. Who could actually like going to the dentist? When I brought my husband in the entire staff was very friendly and personable. They explained everything in detail and made us feel at ease. When he was finished they convinced me to get a check-up. I sat in the chair, trying to hold back my anxiety and tears. The dental assistants and Dr Hargis made me feel very comfortable while they did my x-rays and checked my teeth. I ended up having to come back for a filling. They explained the billing in detail and helped me to understand my insurance. Today I had to get the cavity filled. I was extremely anxious that I would feel everything like I did at my previous dentist. They made sure that did not happen. I didn't feel a any pain. Add I'm sitting here writing this review, my mouth is still numb but my anxiety is gone. Because of their wonderful professionalism and care I am no longer afraid to go to future appointments. I know that I'll be in good, knowledgeable, and friendly hands. I would like to thank the entire staff for being so wonderful. Thank you! Barbie Brusnighan

Gerald has a quiet confidence that I get the sense comes from a vast wealth of experience, while Leslie has an unparalleled bedside manner and does some really excellent work. They are not overly interventionist (which I greatly appreciate), but when work has needed to be performed (on two occasions in my case), Leslie has been meticulous, efficient, and deeply compassionate. The staff are also really fantastic and friendly, and all seem to know me by name. My wife has had similar experiences. In our travels up and down the east coast over the past 10 years, these are hands down the best dentists we've been to.

I love this dental practice. I love going to see Dr Hargis and her staff. I have been a patient for 15+ years. I moved away from Burlington 9 years ago but cannot imagine going anywhere else. The staff is great, so kind and friendly, they make you feel like family. I can highly recommend to anyone seeking dental care. I would give it 10 stars if allowed.

The care given here is beyond goes above and beyond the normal standard of customer service. The staff is all very warm and welcoming, and both Dr.'s are very knowledgeable and thorough. This is truly fantastic dentist to have, and with being one of the only true family dentist practices out here it makes dental care a breeze.
