As a board-certified pediatric dentist, Dr. John chose to continue his formal education for an additional two years to specialize in pediatrics and then obtained his board certification through a multi-year examination process. When compared to a traditional general dentist, this added education allows Dr. John and our team to provide the most thorough and up-to-date treatment for children and adolescents. From your childs first visit until they become an adult, our goal is to help them develop a healthy smile and great dental habits that will last their lifetime.
Our office is also designed with children in mind. We want kids of all ages to feel comfortable and safe from the first moment they walk in the door. Our team is fully trained in working with children from all walks of life. So, whether your child is outgoing or shy, we take the extra time to get to know their personalities and what will work best for them.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry(AAPD)defines a dental home as the ongoing relationship between the dentist and the patient, inclusive of all aspects of oral health care delivered in a comprehensive, continuously accessible, coordinated, and family-centered way. The AAPD recommends finding children a dental home by 12 months of age, as children who have a dental home are more likely to receive preventive and routine oral health care. This routine oral health care is an importantpart of helping yourchild avoid cavities and other common childhood dental problems.

Being a pediatric dentist is one of my greatest passions and has been my lifes work. It allows me to provide children with a great smile that will positively impact their self-esteem, and confidence, aid in general wellbeing, and help to set them on a path for a bright and healthy future. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to experience the benefits of being under the care of a great pediatric dentist firsthand. I try to emulate that very positive personal experience with a dental care professional in my own image, knowing how important it is to establish those relationships and habits at a young age. Like a harbor that provides a haven for a ship, a caring and positive pediatric practice should be a safe place to set children on a course for lifelong dental health.
I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and stayed there to attend the University of Michigan for both my Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees. Go Blue! Following dental school, I was accepted into the University of Minnesotas Pediatric Dental Residency program to specialize in pediatric dental care. The residency provided me with significant experience in the comprehensive treatment of children and adolescents; including those living with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and complex medical conditions. My team and I are able to provide exceptional care for our patients, in part, because of this strong, first-rate education.
One of the most significant philosophies that I learned throughout my dental training is the importance of lifelong learning. To that end, I continue to maintain my Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry through theAmerican Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Additionally, I continue to partake in continuing education opportunities through the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. This ensures that my practice and I treat every patient to the highest standard of care and that that care is based on the most up-to-date and cutting-edge practices.
Outside of pediatric dentistry, I enjoy being as active as possible in and around the Queen City. I can often be found hiking the trails and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains, locked in a competitive tennis match, water skiing on Lake Norman, or jogging on one of Charlottes many greenways. I also have a passion for classic automobiles and have been known to spend an entire weekend under the hood of whatever my latest vintage car is.

My daughter had her first dental appointment (at 1 1/2 years old) and instantly gravitated toward the staff. The staff here are extremely pleasant and made us feel right at home! The office was very clean and welcoming. Looking forward to the next visit.

Yesterday was our 15 mo daughter's first dentist appt. Dr John and his team (Cindy) were wonderful. They explained everything to us prior to having a look at our daughters incoming teeth and answered all our questions afterwards about next steps in her dental health. We weren't sure what to expect at a pediatric dentist, but we are sure glad we found Harbor. Highly recommend

I had been so nervous to take my kids to the dentist, but at 4 and 7 it was time. They were welcoming and not judgy about my anxious mama ways. My kids loved the tv on the ceiling and the cool sunglasses to wear! No cavities and no tears, we are happy to have found Dr. John!

I couldn't be more pleased with how the entire staff treated myself and my 3 year old at his first dentist appointment. Deasia, especially, made the experience. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and did everything they could to make the trip a pleasant and non-intimidating experience for us. I am so glad that this is the place my son got to experience the dentist for the first time, because I know it will be somewhere he doesn't associate any negative feelings towards. We will recommend this place to everyone with kids.

My toddler (20 months) had his first dental appointment here with Dr. John and his assistant Jessica. I can not say enough good things about him and his entire staff. Everyone was so patient, kind, and cheerful. It made him and myself feel very comfortable. I honestly did not expect them to even get their hands on him long enough for an exam, but they did it WITH NO TEARS!

Our 4 year old was extremely nervous to go to the dentist, and I put it off until she had a tooth that had such a bad cavity it needed to be pulled! Harbor pediatric dentistry came highly recommended to me and I can say they exceeded my expectations! They have every amenity to make your child comfortable (scented nitrous, tvs on the ceiling) and we are so grateful to have found them! Excellent at numbing too! Such kind people. Just had our second visit and it went just as great as the first!

We had such an amazing visit at Harbor Pediatric. Everyone is so kind and helpful. They have TVs on the ceiling which was amazing when trying to clean my 2 year olds teeth! Highly recommend!

I can't say enough kind things about our visit today. Ms. Madison knew there was some anxiety over the X-rays and the "pokey" thing. She knew exactly how to make my daughter feel comfortable. Get to know her, build a little trust (we loved her asking about our dog and hearing about her dog as she got out the paw print X-ray cover). Explain as much as she wanted to know, let her feel the instruments, and say when she was ready, and most importantly...not lie to trick her...she'll see right thru it...tell her you have tricks to make it so easy! HOW this worked? I have no idea - but Madison was just AMAZING! Of course, Dr.John swoops in and it's more of the same... just the kindest team - they obviously love what they do, and I'm so appreciative of that

We took our son to the dentist for the first time. Just like any parent would be, we were extremely nervous. The Dental Hygienist Cindy was amazing with our son. She explained everything she was going to do, made him feel comfortable, and it went extremely smooth. Dr. John came in and did the same thing. They both gave great tips and it was an overall 10/10 experience. They ended the visit with a spider man tooth brush and stickers. Our son said he loved the dentist. Highly recommend!

We love it at Harbor Pediatric Dentist. My two boys, 8 years old and 14 years old, feel very comfortable with all the staff and procedures (xray, cleaning, cavity fillings) The front office staff is friendly along with the hygienist and the dentist. My kids and I love it here.

Harbor Pediatric Dentistry was amazing! My 2.5 yr old wasn't scared at all and was even smiling at her first dentist appointment. I was shocked and thrilled that my nervous anticipation was silly. They were so nice and gentle. Plus it helps that they had a Disney movie playing right above the chair in view for her to keep her distracted. I highly recommend!
