Our practice was started by George S. Tate, DDS in 1966 and later joined by his son, Richard H. Tate, DDS in 1983. Their reputation for compassionate and exemplary care was legendary throughout the Roanoke and New River Valleys. Dr. Richard Tate retired in 2018 at which time Christopher S. Hansen, MS, DMD inherited their legacy.
Dr. Hansen was born in Seattle,completed his dental school at Nova Southeastern University in South Florida and an orthodontic residency at Louisiana State University, and is pleased make a homewith his wife, Christina, and daughter, Naomi, here where many of his family's roots spring.
He is a board certified orthodontist--a distinctionachieved by only about 1 in 3 orthodontists--and keeps up to date with the latest advances and research in the field, but mostly he just enjoys making his patients smile.
Outside of the office, he enjoys the outdoors, golfing, a good book on the beach, and tries to stay active in his church and community. More than anything, however, he simply likes to spend time with his wife, daughter, and their dog Toby.

The most patient, wonderful people ever! Everyone in this office from the front office staff to the hygienists/orthodontist assistants and Dr. Hansen are all absolutely amazing! My daughter has had some traumatizing dental experiences (at other offices) in the past and is extremely scared and nervous. Everyone in this office is so understanding and goes above and beyond to make sure that she feels comfortable while also helping her to be brave to do what needs to be done. They take their time and show her all of the instruments, let her feel them, and explain exactly what will be happening. I feel that their patience even surpasses my own haha. I can't say enough good things about this place. I'm so thankful for all that they do!

Last week I took my younger son to Dr. Hansen. The front office staff was very friendly and welcoming. The office was neat and clean. The Dr. himself checked us in due to someone else canceling their appointment and we were lucked out. He spent sufficient time with us and listened to us carefully and suggested the best options we had. He is very honest and genuine and that touched us. I will certainly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an orthodontist especially to people who are hesitant and not knowing what they might be getting into.

This place is so horrible and irresponsible. The lady answer the phone is so rule and she has no ideal how to talk to customers. The doctor here can't treat my friend and his assistant is not willing to explain the problem politely.
