Dr. Stephen Hansen was born and raised in the Tacoma area and is happy to be practicing here in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Hansen received his undergraduate degree from Gonzaga University in 2003 and his dental degree from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 2007.
Dr. Hansen has received numerous honors and awards, including membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor dental society, the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award, the American Association of Oral Biology award, and the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Award. While in dental school, he earned first place in the UWSOD Dentsply Research competition and the National Harvard School of Dental Medicine Research Academy abstract competition.
Dr. Hansen has lectured at the International Academy of Dental Research, the American Dental Association Conference, the Pacific Northwest Dental Conference, and various local study clubs. He is published in the Journal of Immunology for his research exploring the host-pathogen interface.
Dr. Hansen reserves a portion of his dental practice for charitable cancer care outreach. Working closely with various oncology specialists, his mission has been to reduce cancer treatment start times to ensure that people with cancer can begin their life-saving therapy without delay and minimize dental-oral related complications.
As part of that mission, he started a charity dedicated to paying for the dental treatment needed prior to head-and-neck-cancer therapy. Dr. Hansen has also participated in dental missions around the globe. He is happy for the opportunity to provide dental care where it is so desperately needed.
Dr. Hansen lives in University Place with his wife Carly and their two young children. When hes not working on or thinking about teeth, youll find him spending time with his family or at Crystal Mountain chasing powder.
As your dentist, I feel that it is my responsibility to listen to your needs and help you create a unique treatment plan that will give you the beautiful smile you want. It is my promise to you that when you visit our practice, you will receive the outstanding care you deserve, and that while our practice is working hard to meet your needs, we are working hard to preserve the world around us for future generations.
A quality education and a commitment to continuing education provide me with the skills necessary to help my patients achieve a healthy, beautiful smile. I am actively involved in continuing education in order to provide my patients with the dental services they need and want. I have participated in multiple continuing education courses, from general dentistry to all aspects of restorative and cosmetic treatments. For me, continuing education is not about fulfilling them minimal state requirements, but it's rather about staying current with advances made throughout my field so that I can provide better care for my patients and their families.
We recognize that all of our patients are unique and deserve to receive dental care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented dental team is committed to working with you and your family to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding dental experience every time you visit our practice.
WHAT SETS US APART High Tech meets Old School Patient Care. Or course, weve got all the latest dental equipment and training, we combine that with an old school commitment to patient care. For example, after every procedure youll get a phone call from the dentist to check in to see how you are doing, blankets and pillows at every dental chair and of course, TVs. We are proud to be a legacy dental practice with deep roots in the Tacoma community. My father bought the practice from Dr. John Gould in 1987, after his graduation from the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Even with all this history our dental practice continues to grow and evolve. Were particularly proud of how our practice has served the community of patients with cancer, who face a unique set of dental issues, for just one example.
