Dr. Joe Hannah is a native Kansan who grew up in the town of Lyons. Growing up in a small town, Dr. Hannah appreciates the personal aspect of meeting people and getting to know his patients and their families. He moved to Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas and has remained an avid fan of the Jayhawks.

Dr. Hannah attended UMKC Dental School but left the area to complete his orthodontic residency at the University of Louisville. Following graduation in 1986, Dr. Hannah joined the practice with Dr. Richard Radke who founded the practice in 1959. After many years of practicing orthodontics, Dr. Hannah continues to enjoy the warm relationships with patients and staff. It is very rewarding to see the difference we make in our patients smiles, dental health, and I hope their lives.

Dr. Hannah enjoys supporting the local schools that his patients attend and has spent years volunteering for local charities that benefit children. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (a distinction earned by only 1 in 3 of all orthodontists), a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and past president of both the Kansas State Association of Orthodontists and the Greater Kansas City Society of Orthodontists. His involvement in these organizations allows him to stay abreast of the newest innovations in orthodontics and to continually improve diagnosis, prevention and treatment procedures for his patients.

Dr. Richard Hannah is a native of Kansas. He grew up in rural Olathe and graduated from Spring Hill High School. He knew he wanted to pursue a career as an orthodontist after watching his grandfather, Dr. Radke, practice. His decision was sealed after shadowing Uncle Joe when he was a junior in high school.

Dr. Richards love of nature and the great outdoors led him to attend Montana State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Biology Neuroscience. He returned to the Kansas City area to complete dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

After graduation in 2011, the call of Montana took him back to practice general dentistry in Bozeman for two years. He then began an orthodontic residency at the University of Indiana in 2013 and graduated with his Masters of Science in Dentistry. He joined Hannah Orthodontics in July 2015 and is excited to finally begin his orthodontic career working alongside his uncle in the practice his grandfather founded in 1959.

Dr. Richard loves building relationships with patients and their families, knowing that improving a smile can change a life. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (a distinction earned by only 1 in3 of all orthodontists), a member of the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), as well as the Kansas Orthodontic and Dental Societies.

Dr. Gretter Hannah was born in Cuba and came to the United States when she was eight years old. Dr. Gretter attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Cell Science. She then traded the warmth of Florida for the hustle of New Jersey where she attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she received a Masters Degree in Biomedical Sciences. After receiving her Masters degree, she attended Howard University for dental school and Indiana University for her orthodontic residency, graduating with a Certificate of Orthodontics and a Masters of Science in Dentistry.

Dr. Gretter Hannah loves building relationships with her patients and enjoys bringing joy to both young and old. She enjoys seeing the positive impact her treatment has on their confidence and self-esteem. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (a distinction earned by only 1 in 3 of all orthodontists), a member of the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), as well as many Kansas Orthodontic and Dental Societies.

When Dr. Hannah is not in the office she loves spending time with her family, and along with Dr. Richard, taking care of their two young children, Isabella and Weston. Their family enjoys traveling and spending time in the outdoors.

No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to complete Board Certification. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.
