According to a recent survey, 41% of Texans dont see a dentist as often as they would like, beating out general practitioner (23%), dermatologist (28%) and psychiatrist (16%). Meanwhile 85% of Texans believe oral health is very or extremely important to their overall health, yet only 25% are extremely satisfied with the health of their mouth, teeth, and gums.
At Hancock and Johnston we believe everyone deserves a beautiful, healthy smile at a reasonable price. No insurance? No problem. Many of our patients choose our practice because they trust in our team, experience and reputation.
1. For example, managed care incentivizes dentists to rush, churning through more patients per hour just to turn a profit. This reduces overall quality and prevents dentists from providing a personalized treatment plan. It also means less small talk and building a relationship with our patients.
2. No insurance company covers 100% of dental care. Many plans deny all cosmetic treatments (teeth whitening, bonding, veneers). Even orthodontics are seldom covered or your plan may have many exclusions such as not covering braces/invisalign for adults.
3. Insurance can also force a dentists hand, such as recommending certain procedures that are affordable, but not in a patients best interest. Case in point, amalgam fillings for cavities. 50% of an amalgam filling is mercury, with silver, tin and copper making up the rest. Our practice never uses amalgam fillings and always uses composite fillings. However, research shows many insurance plans only cover or strongly recommend amalgam fillings.

Many other clinics require 6 months before a routine cleaning, checkup, or dental filling. We want to prevent delayed treatment due to schedule conflicts and what about emergency situations? If an accident occurs like a knocked out tooth, severe pain, or prolonged swelling you need to see a dentist right away. At our practice, chances are we can treat you sooner rather than laterhelping you avoid complications and unbearable pain.

Dr. Jeff Hancock graduated from Coronado High School. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry at Texas Tech University. He attended Dental School at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, TX, and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2003.
Dr. Blake developed his passion for dentistry when he was in high school. His desire to become a dentist continued to grow during college and dental school. There isnt a day that goes by that he is not excited to go to work. Excellent dental work can change more than a smile, it can change a life. This is a reward that is unmatched for the patient and the doctor.
Dr. Jeff loves Dentistry and is grateful to have an occupation that he finds fulfilling and is passionate about. He has taken many hours of Continuing Education Courses in cosmetic cases, implants and orthodontics. He believes it is important to stay well educated and up to date on all the technology and techniques as they evolve. He particularly enjoys and excels at Cosmetic cases. It is so rewarding to see a persons physical appearance change so dramatically, and to see the positive shifts in their self esteem as a result of the work that I do.
Jeff and his wife, Starr, have two young children. They are members of Experience Life Church and enjoy supporting local and global ministries such as Campus Crusade for Christ, Young Life, Coaches Outreach and World Vision.
Jeff spends most of his time away from the office training for Triathlons. Jeff began competing in tris in 2010, and by the end of 2013 he will have done 5 Half Ironman Distances and 4 Full Ironman Distance Races! He is a member of the local run and triathlon clubs and enjoys training and competing in races big and small.
Dr. Jeff has always been and always will be an avid Texas Tech fan, particularly football. He supports his alma mater with a die hard mentality. And loves to read, watch and of course talk Tech football anytime anywhere.
