Doctor of Dental Surgery Roger M. Hanawalt, D.D.S. has been lucky enough to live in La Verne for most of his life. Born and raised here, he graduated from Bonita High School in 1972. Moving on to an education at La Verne College (now the University of La Verne) he enjoyed playing intercollegiate football and tennis while pursuing his interests in science. A Bachelor of Arts in Biology was realized in 1976, followed by four years in Atlanta, Georgia, at Emory University School of Dentistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1980 and immediately returned to La Verne to pursue his career.
Community service and involvement have been key elements of living in La Verne. Dr. Hanawalt has been a member of the Rotary Club of La Verne since 1981 and served as President in 2003/2004. His duties in Rotary Club have included organizing a High School All Star basketball game for more than 28 years, as well as coordinating Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and Teacher Mini-Grants in addition to other community service projects. Dr. Hanawalt has enjoyed many years of coaching his kids on youth sports teams. He has been a lifelong member of the La Verne Church of the Brethren. Involvement with the Los Angeles County Fair Association and other local projects has added to his sense of enjoyment and community pride. Dr. Hanawalts best expression of his pride in La Verne is providing quality dental care since 1980.
Doctor of Dental Medicine Peri L. Hanawalt Wes, D.M.D. was born and raised in La Verne. She graduated from Bonita High School in 2003, matriculated at Scripps College, and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 2007. While at Scripps, Dr. Peri participated in the intercollegiate volleyball team and met her husband, David Wes, who attended Claremont McKenna College. She then moved to Boston to continue her education and pursue a career in dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. In May 2011, Dr. Peri received her Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree. She and Dave were married in August 2010 and moved to La Verne. In August 2012, the Wes family was blessed with the arrival of their beautiful son, Dylan and in August 2015, they were further blessed by the arrival of their lovely daughter, Logan.
When not at the office, Dr. Peri enjoys spending time with her family, camping at the beach and being outdoors. She is happy to be back home and is thrilled to be working alongside her father, Dr. Roger Hanawalt, in his La Verne practice.
Chris is the facilitator of our practice, the one who implements and oversees administrative functions of the practice from patient care to computer system management. Chriss position in our office is an ever changing one. As new technologies become available it is she who spearheads installation, training and implementation. Chris has been in the healthcare profession since 1984 and has been with Dr. Hanawalt since 1998. Chris loves traveling to tropical destinations with her husband. She is a dedicated musician and vocalist, performing with a community band as well as with a 40s style combo which features an Andrews Sisters style trio.
Tina has been with Dr. Hanawalt since 2006, bringing with her over 25 years of dental experience. Her caring personality greets you with your first phone call and her smile bids you farewell. Tina works diligently to coordinate both Dr. Hanawalts and Dr. Peris patient schedule as well as the schedule for our hygiene department. She works hard to efficiently maximize patient and provider time. Her calm and friendly demeanor puts our patients at ease. Tina enjoys traveling, hiking, going to concerts and movies, and trying out new restaurants with her husband and 2 children.
Pam started her career in Illinois prior to moving to sunny California. She has been one of Dr. Hanawalts hygienists since 1989 and enjoys educating patients in periodontal therapy and ways to maintain a healthy mouth. Pam is always eager to continue her education and keep our patients informed of the latest dental care products. Currently, Pam is building her business as a Certified Myofunctional Therapist. She is finding this new endeavor very rewarding! Pam is married and has two children. When she isnt working she may be found puttering in her garden, reading, or working Sudoku puzzles.
Shelby has been in the dental field for over 15 years. She started out as a registered dental assistant and went back to school to complete her degree in hygiene. She has 2 beautiful daughters with whom she loves to spend time.
Jennifer has enjoyed working with Dr. Hanawalt since 1994. As an RDA she has used every opportunity to expand her dental knowledge and apply her amazing talents in patient care. Jennifers bubbly personality and smiling face are well known and loved by our patients. She enjoys interaction and sharing with patients while providing top notch dentistry. Jennifer has two sons and enjoys watching them participate in water polo as well as taking weekend camping trips.
Janene has been in the dental assisting field for numerous years. She enjoys being a registered dental assistant and interacting with both Doctors and patients. Her calm demeanor has a positive effect on all who come to our office, including the staff! In her spare time Janene loves spending time with her husband and 3 girls.
Polly enjoys helping out in the office wherever necessary. When not at work or at Hillcrest volunteering or horseback riding, Polly can be found playing with her dog or indulging in a favorite pastime, reading a good book.

I have been a patient of DR Hanawalt"s for over 30 years. Having a life long fear of dental work, Dr. Hanawalt, Dr. Peri and their staff have always calmed my fears. This appointment was no different. They genuinely care for their patients, and our comfort. They've been a blessing, In my life!

From beginning to end, this office is welcoming and efficient! Chris and and Tina at the front desk are so helpful and funny. Every one of the ladies in the back are top notch! And, Dr Peri is gentle, skilled, thorough and engaging. She makes you feel like you're the most important person in the room! She and her dad, Dr. Hanawalt, make patient care their top priority. Having discovered a hitherto unknown technology problem that corrupted the electronic file of a scan of my teeth, Dr. Peri brought me back for a second scan after making sure that the technology problem had been corrected. She and Jennifer, her assistant, apologized for the problem (which was certainly not their fault) and then proceeded to do an expeditious yet careful second scan, checking to be sure that it was securely saved and received by the lab. This problem was handled exactly right, so that my already high opinion of the Hanawalt practice became even higher. What a good feeling to be in such a competent and considerate place for my dental care! Thank you.

My wife, Stefanie, and I are new to the Hanawalt dental practice. We couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism and compassionate manner in which we have both been treated. First time I have ever been to a dentist and got in promptly with virtually no delay. Staff excellent, very professional and dfriendly. (Tina, Jennifer and Jeanine)> Dr. Roger Hanawalt's exam was extremely thorough, and his p resentation of findings was excellent. Loved the shiny folder with all the info in it, along with photos and x-rays. Follow-up emails appreciated.

Very friendly, efficient staff. Office is a 10 in cleanliness. No waiting - they get you in at your appointment time. Pricing is a bit above average but so are their skills. I recommend and have no desire to look elsewhere.

I continue to be impressed by this office. Since my last visit they have taken extraordinary precautions to minimize covid-19 dangers, including the ventilation system among many others. I felt as safe as possible during my visit. The quality of care, as usual, was top notch.

As always, a positive experience. I was apprehensive about having a dental appointment during a pandemic but, the Hanawalt team has everything well in hand. Aside from wearing a mask as you enter and leave it was the same positive experience it has been for over 25 years.
