Dr. Edlund graduated a Presidents Scholar in 1978 from Southern Illinois University with bachelors degree in chemistry and a minor in physics and math. He matriculated to SIU-Edwardsville to complete his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1982. That same year, he moved to Colorado to start his practice.
His passion for dentistry is evident in that his office offers state-of-the-art dental care, utilizing 3D digital imaging, digital 2D radiography, Nd-YAG laser periodontal therapy and Zeiss microscopy, as well as CAD-CAM dentistry. Dr. Edlund was the first Denver area dentist to complete LASER certification (2005) using the patented LANAP procedure for treating gum disease. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implants and a graduate of the Misch International Institute of Implants.
Dr. Edlund is the program director and instructor for Dental Careers of Colorado LLC, an educational entity focused on providing students the latest in dental technology. He also works for Planmeca Corporation and Henry Schein Corp as a consultant in the area of 3D digital radiography, teaching other doctors how to implement this technology into their practice.
Dr. David Edlund was invited to join the acclaimed MIT imaging lab in August 2015. He is part of a six-member team focusing on developing new, high-speed imaging systems. Dr. Edlund has completed a number of post-graduate courses at MIT, including Mastering Innovation and Design Thinking, Additive Manufacturing, Advances In Imaging, High-Speed Imaging for Motion Analysis, The Invention Process and Computational Photography.
Dr Edlund co-invented an apparatus for the illumination and transillumination of oral structures using infrared light. This device was tested in his office with two MIT researchers. It does not use harmful radiation, only light energy.
Dr. Edlund was also instrumental in helping Formlabs develop and test the Dental SG resin used to fabricate dental surgical guides. He worked with Formlabs testing the Dental SG resin using the latest stereolithographic 3D printer (Form2). He is currently working part-time as a Clinical Collaborator and researcher for MIT. His current research interests are in the area of high-speed imaging using non-ionizing radiation and utilizing 3D Stereolithographic Printed devices for guided surgery.

This is an update to my previous 4 star review...I received a very personal, heartfelt reply from Dr. Edlund, the owner of the practice, regarding my thoughts of his newest staff member and he assured me that the level of compassionate care that he expects to be given in his dental office and throughout his practice would be reiterated. I know, based off the reviews I've read here, as well as the sincerely deep apology given, that the experience I had with his newest doctor was completely out of the ordinary and I am convinced that Dr. Edlund expects nothing less than the utmost care for all his patients. It is evident that his staff is accustomed to providing a level of care & service that is unparalleled and it certainly showed in our latest visit. Dr. Edlund suggested that he personally oversee my & my wife's dental care needs and we honestly couldn't be happier. He is so caring and thoughtful as well as extremely thorough with our dental care needs. He has a very kind disposition, just like the ladies working there in the office. We are so glad to be part of their extended family & will be patients for life!

I became a new patient of Hampden Family Dentistry this past June and it is everything I've been looking for in a dental office since moving to CO! After going to a couple of different dental offices here & receiving lackluster treatment I decided to get serious about interviewing dental offices that felt like my family owned dentist that I'd gone to in New York for over a decade. After reading Hampden Family Dentistry's rave reviews on Google I gave them a call. I spoke with Mayra, the dental assistant at the office, and she couldn't say enough great things about the entire staff there & the practice! She explained that the staff had all worked there for a great number of years and that they were like family. She said I would likely be meeting their newest member of the team, Dr. Norman, who had recently joined the practice from NYC, so she felt we'd really hit it off. After hearing all of this I was super excited to visit! When I arrived I was greeted by Kendra, the office manager & her daughter, two of the sweetest souls you'll ever come across! Then I met Anna, their permanent hygienist, with her bubbly personality & kind disposition! She gave me THE most thorough, methodical, firm but gentle, teeth cleaning that I have ever had & it nearly brought me to tears of elation! I literally had to stop her midway through the cleaning & thank her for being so amazing at her job!! All in all I would highly recommend this dental office, BUT there is one caveat...Dr. Norman. Sadly I felt he was not warm nor welcoming (thus the 4 stars instead of 5). When he entered the room he did not greet me. He simply said he was Dr. Norman and would be performing my oral exam. He spoke only to Anna while performing my exam and when he spoke to her it felt harsh. When I informed him of my having dark spots in the lower inside area of my mouth that I had examined by an oral surgeon years ago he asked me what did they determine. I told him that the doctor said it was not cancerous & it was nothing to be concerned about. He continued to press me about what exactly was said. Now as a patient with no dental expertise I am not going to be able to recite verbatim the exact words an oral surgeon said to me, let alone remember those said words from nearly a decade ago. At that moment I instantly thought, "I'm not coming back here again". And if it weren't for the AMAZING teeth cleaning I received from Anna and the OUTSTANDING staff members there in the office I would not. As a New Yorker that says a lot because we have tougher skin than most. Also as a New Yorker, though, and as a Christian, I don't hesitate to speak up & help correct someone for the better so I told Dr. Norman that he comes across as rough around the edges & he should smile from within, regardless of him wearing a mask or not. I thought he received the criticism but my wife visited a couple weeks later & she felt the same way...he has a seemingly rushed & dispassionate disposition that comes across as a level of arrogance that is off-putting. One thing for sure, though, he is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and can answer any questions you may have about your dental health. If he's not careful, though, he will lose patients and, God forbid, his beautiful staff.

I have been a regular patient of Dr Edlund for approximately 20years. Every visit has been very well worth it. His experience and gental dentistry techniques are incredible. The office us inviting, clean and full of updated equipment. Dr. Edlund cares about his patients and their well-being. He uses high quality products and incorporates various techniques that regulate the comfort of the patient and ensures positive outcomes for the most complicated procedures. He is simply the best in the industry. I am very appreciative of all time, effort and work he has done for me and my family.

Simply The Best! As a patient of Dr Edlund's for many years, I have been fortunate to experience his expertise, caring, sensitivity to my sensitivity (!) and many years of education and skill. New patient. We got in very quickly for a broken tooth. All the staff, including the dentist was very friendly and professional. In and out in under an hour. Dentist explained everything that was going on. Love these guys. Will be going back!!
