I grew up in the western Pennsylvania town of New Castle in a family of dentists. My grandfather was a dentist and my father was an orthodontist. From the time I was 12 years old, I wanted to be an orthodontist. I witnessed the joy that my father received from the orthodontic profession and his ability to help those around him, both patients and the community.

Orthodontics is a unique profession that combines both art and science. Every patient is different, so it is extremely rewarding to help individuals attain the health benefits and beautiful smile they desire. It is amazing to see how a beautiful smile can improve self-esteem. I know I can really make a difference for my patients and that difference can last a lifetime.

I have been providing top-quality patient care and creating beautiful smiles since 1982. Our mission has been to provide excellent orthodontic care and exceptional customer service in a warm, caring, and fun office environment. Our staff is composed of wonderfully skilled individuals who sharethe same values. We strive to make patients feel like they are special and a part of our orthodontic family. My philosophy in life, as well as orthodontics, is to treat everyone I encounter as I would want to be treated.

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, whichI attended on a track scholarship. During that time, I was captain of the UNC cross-country and track teams for two years and received the E.J. Evans award for the most outstanding senior in track. I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery and masters degree in orthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as well.

I believe that involvement in my profession and ongoing continuing education are vital, both to my career and to deliver state-of-the-art treatment to my patients. I took the extra steps to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics early on in my career. This group is composed of only 25% of actively practicing orthodontists. I am a member of the local Foothills Study Group, which concentrates on interdisciplinary treatment, and I continue to be active in our local, state, and national dental and orthodontic associations.

My commitment to the orthodontic profession, my patients, and my community isreflected in my office each and every day. I was always taught as a child to give back more than I received and that is one of the key elements upon which I built my practice and reputation. That is who we are at Hamilton &Herring Orthodontics.

We believe that community involvement and service areintegral to our mission. We have always been supportive of numerous community events, and I have served on the Hickory Foundation YMCA board in the past and am currently serving on the board of the Catawba County PublicHealth Department. Through such service, Ihave had the opportunity to serve, but have also had the honor of meeting so many wonderful leaders in our community.

I live in Hickory with my wonderful wife Angela(an actively practicing speech pathologist) and my playful Labradoodle Cassie (the real boss!)I have been blessed with four amazing children and two sons-in-law. Elyse and her husband Henry reside in Charlotte.Christina and her husband Erik are in Atlanta. My stepsons are Jesse, who lives in Chapel Hill, and Nolan in California.

I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to serve my community both professionally and personally. It is my hope that Hamilton &Herring Orthodontics will provide you with an orthodontic experience that will be far beyond your expectations and a smile that will be life changing.

I feel blessed and grateful to be an orthodontist. My profession allows me to be involved in a process that can truly change peoples lives, and that is very exciting to me. Sometimes, a person who has always been shy or embarrassed by their appearance will blossom into a confident, self-assured person as their smile changes during orthodontic treatment. Its an amazing thing to be a part of, and I love it!

Our patients are some of the coolest and most interesting people I know! I love coming to work every day because I get to spend time with them and learn whats going on in their lives. I am constantly blown away by how talented and involved our patients are. We become friends during the time we spend together, and to me, thats one of the best things about being an orthodontist.

I went to college at Wake Forest University and earned a Bachelor of Artsin English literature in 1999. After college, I began my professional education at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. Dental school was a great experience for me, and I was valedictorian of my dental school class. Igraduatedwith a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2003.

I continued at UNC as a resident in the Department of Orthodontics and earned a Master of Sciencein orthodontics in 2006. Despite all of my time in Chapel Hill, I am still a big Wake Forest fan, and I always pull for the Demon Deacons to beat the Tar Heels!

Dr. Hamilton and I believe that participating in continuing education is vital to our development as practitioners and enables us to provide our patients with the most sophisticated and appropriate treatment to meet their orthodontic goals. I seek out training in specific clinical topics whenever I feela technique may improve the careof our patients. Recently, I have focused on expanding my expertise in treating different orthodontic problems with Invisalign clear aligners.

My professional memberships provide continuing education courses that help us to keep up with the most current technologies and techniques in dentistry and orthodontics, as well as the best and most efficient ways to manage our practice. They include:

I grew up in Fairmont, which is a small town in the southeast part of the state about an hour from the beach. My wife Kristin and I met in dental school and were married the summer before my last year of orthodontics residency. We moved to Hickory from Chapel Hill after graduation in June 2006. Kristin is a general dentist for kids and adults, and she has a great dental practice in Mountain View(www.kristinherringdds.com).

Our children are bright, active, and fun loving, and I couldnt be prouder of them. We have so much fun together. Youll see from our pictures that we love outdoor adventures like hiking, biking, and snow skiing. Weenlarged our family a bit more by getting a puppy in January 2017. Scout is our first dog, and hes a golden retriever-cocker spaniel mix. He sheds a bunch, but he is full of love and energy!

My Christian faith is very important to me, and my family worships at First Baptist Church in Hickory. My church involvements have included singing with the sanctuary choir, teaching Sunday School to youth and young adults, leading boys in missions training, and serving on various committees and the deacon board.

In the Hickory community, I have been a member of the board of managers of the Hickory Foundation YMCA, and I believe strongly in the mission of the Y to promote healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. Also in our community, I am an active member of F3, which stands for Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith (f3nation.com, f3hickory.com). F3 has greatly enriched my life, and I encourage all the men in our area to check it out!
