Dr. Halls grew up in the White Mountains and graduated from Blue Ridge High School. He left Pinetop to continue his education at Brigham Young University, where he graduated with his bachelor's degree in science. During his time at BYU, he took two years away from his studies to serve a mission for his church. He served in southern Argentina where he learned to speak fluent Spanish. Following his mission and undergraduate studies, Dr. Halls attended dental school at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Halls knew he wanted to move back to the White Mountains and wanted to be able to give his patients a broader scope of care than what he learned in dental school. This led to him serving in the United State Air Force where he received extensive post-graduate training serving under the guidance of board-certified specialists in nearly all dental specialties. He especially enjoyed surgery, working with oral and maxilofacial surgeons and periodontists and as a result, was assigned to work for the next two years at an Air Force base that required a dentist proficient in surgery and IV sedation. This broad base of knowledge enables him to provide a broader scope of treatment reducing the need to refer to outside specialists, thus simplifying your care.
After leaving the USAF in 2005, Dr. Halls opened a private general dentistry office in the White Mountains of Arizona, where he has since offered comprehensive treatment. Dr. Halls continues to expand his scope on knowledge by attending continuing education courses, making it possible to give his patients outstanding care here in our community. He strives to keep up with the latest trends and technology in dentistry. During 2016-2017, Dr. Halls attended The Advanced Dental Implant Institute under world renowned implant and bone grafting pioneer, Dr. Hilt Tatum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. While there, he completed a clinical residency with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry MaxiCourse Program. The course spanned over a 10 month period focusing on all surgical aspects of implant dentistry, from bone augmentation to tissue management and implant placement. Dr Halls has been placing implants and bone grafts for years, but this course has given him further knowledge and more advanced techniques he can offer his patients. Since this course, Dr. Halls has continued to take courses in bone and tissue grafting techniques and dental implant placement to stay current with the most effective practices possible.
Dr. Halls and his wife, Cherilyn are the proud parents of five active children. When Dr. Halls is not at work, he can be found restoring his old Land Cruiser with his daughter, watching his kids play sports, or enjoying the outdoors with them in our beautiful White Mountains.
Wisdom teeth, also referred to as third molars, get their name by being the last teeth to come in during young adulthood. As part of a dental visit, we will examine you to determine if your wisdom teeth are healthy and properly positioned.
Many people think that as long as their wisdom teeth dont hurt, they do not need to be removed. While not all third molars need to be removed, we have found that early removal of wisdom teeth can prevent many problems associated with removal later in life including:
Wisdom teeth that are not removed should continue to be monitored, because the potential for developing problems later on is great. Removing wisdom teeth at a younger age is generally encouraged to avoid the complications above.
Dr. Halls is the only local dentist certified to remove wisdom teeth using IV sedation. Local support means that well be here should you need any follow-up care. There is no need to drive back to the Valley or to try to seek help from another dentist who is unfamiliar with your case. We are here for you from start to finish.
Dr. Halls has completed hundreds of hours of additional training beyond dental school. Following dental school, rather than enter private practice, he chose to complete a residency program offered by some of the most qualified specialists available, including advanced training in oral surgery. Following this training, Dr. Halls was assigned to remove wisdom teeth for new Air Force recruits. While there are rare cases that he refers to an oral surgeon, this experience has allowed him to gain the experience necessary to handle surgeries that even include teeth that are completely impacted and hidden in the jaw.
Many people wonder why wisdom teeth are often removedeven if they dont seem to be causing any problems. The truth is that problems may be occurring which arent felt until it is too late. For example, wisdom teeth may be positioned so that food and bacteria collect around them but cannot be cleansed. This may cause gum infections that cause loss of the jaw bone or cavities that may lead to the need for root canals or even loss of the molar tooth in front of the wisdom tooth. Waiting for wisdom teeth to hurt before seeking care is simply not wise.
The answer varies for each person, but most surgeons agree that mid-late teens is ideal for most people. This is performed often before the roots of the teeth are fully formed, making the removal less risky and recovery easier. An evaluation during the early teen years can prevent some complications that may result from waiting.
Furthermore, it may be financially wise to have the procedure performed before students lose the insurance coverage they have before they leave home, and scheduling ahead of time can be much more convenient than waiting until a problem arises which may mean missing days of school or work.
Usually the answer is no. The majority of people enjoy a trouble-free recovery. However, if you think you might have a dry socket or other questions arise, we make it easy for you to return for care. Thats the beauty of local support. There is generally no additional cost for follow-up care from start to finish.
We understand that each person is unique and we are comfortable offering options tailored to each individual. You may choose to simply have local anesthetic, take a relaxing prescription pill ahead of time, or, like most of our patients, choose the ease of IV sedation to be completely comfortable.

I have been a patient of Dr. Halls and his staff for a number of years. I have been treated very well by everyone there. The office is run in a very professional manner. As long as Dr. Halls makes Show Low his home base and more importantly keeps his staff intact, I will contnue to see him.

I was fortunate enough to have found Halls Dentistry years ago after virtually calling every dentist on the mountain! In as few words as I can muster...Hall's Dentistry sometimes may not be the lowest price in town, yet has proven to be above the norm in competence, honesty and above all, integrity. You too, will experience the same feeling if you work with these competent and friendly people. The caring, careful treatment, along with simple kindness is extended every visit. This sure helps as we all know how nervous we are going to a dentist! I have had a variety of work done, from cleaning to crowns, root canals, veneers, invisilines...you name it...and am 100% happy with all the work. Questions are welcomed as well..and I always have plenty. Doubts are listened to and patiently explained contributing to my complete trust in every procedure. You'll love the techs too. We are so very pleased with Dr. David Halls and his staff at Halls Advanced Dentistry and Implant Center. My 17 yr old son had 3 wisdom teeth removed, recently. I appreciate the care and thoughtfulness from the front staff , to the surgical staff . Dr. Halls was awesome! They are very attentive. They are thorough and very detailed in their explanation of the procedure, from beginning to end. Their care of my son was 100%. I appreciate Dr. Hall's bedside manner and we felt his expertise was top-notch. My son was at ease before the procedure began, and afterwards he recovered nicely, with no problems. I highly recommend Dr. David Halls for wisdom teeth removal.

Normally in a dental office you always seem to hear people screaming and yelling because of the pain. Not really! I love Halls Advanced Dentistry. Everyone is friendly and professional. I am very comfortable in there. Dr Halls himself is very knowledgeable and he is gentle. When numbing your mouth it is almost painless. His office also has access to the type of music you like and it is played while you're visiting there for an appointment. Thumbs up! I haven't brought donuts the last several times knowing the temptation it brings. However, I know the staff has become more disciplined recently so I will start again my next visit. Rance.

Today was a GREAT day - Rebecca Brimhall did my thorough teeth cleaning with absolute care and professionalism. Dr. Hall confirmed the need for an upcoming cavity repair and explained options with clarity so my bridge could be spared. I recommend anyone coming to Show Low and looking for a new dental home to put Halls Advanced Dentistry & Implant Center on the top of the list. Been a patient for a decade and would go nowhere else.
