On behalf of St. Marys Board of Directors and our entire St. Marys family, it is my pleasure to welcome you to St. Marys website. I hope you enjoy your visit here and find our site helpful and easy to use.

St. Marys is much more than a hospital. We are a health care ministry that includes three hospitals, numerous physician practices, our regions first medical residency program, one of the states pioneering home health care/hospice services, a retirement community, extensive outpatient services, and much more. We are proud to be part of Trinity Health, one of the nations largest Catholic healthcare organizations. Partnering with Trinity, we not only are able to bring the strength of a national healthcare ministry to our communities, we are on the leading edge of helping to develop best practices that will have an impact across America.

In the tradition of our sponsors, Catholic Health Ministries, we are committed to bringing high-quality, evidence-based health care services to you and your family. As a not-for-profit Catholic health care system, we invest our resources back into our community. We strive continually to enhance our facilities and services to better meet your needs and those of everyone we serve.

I am proud that St. Marys is recognized as a national leader in quality and patient satisfaction, but we know there is no such thing as good enough. Day and night, our dedicated physicians and staff work to further improve our quality of care. This effort grows from our faith, which inspires us to be committed to the sacredness of human life and the dignity of each person we serve. We pledge to strive for ever higher levels of compassion and excellence in all we do, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For more than 110 years, it has been St. Marys honor and privilege to serve the families, businesses, and communities of Northeast Georgia. Thank you for choosing St. Marys as your preferred healthcare partner, for life. We are here to serve you. Your health is our mission.

As a mission-driven, innovative health organization, we will become the national leader in improving the health of our communities and each person we serve. We will be the most trusted health partner for life.

St. Marys is proud to be a Regional Health Ministry in Trinity Health. Trinity Health is one of the nations largest Catholic health care systems, serving people multiple states from coast to coast with 86 hospitals.

Being a part of a large national system gives us access to resources and ideas across the broad spectrum of care, making it easier for us to advance clinical quality in significant ways at the local level and providing economies of scale that reduce our costs. It also allows us to contribute our knowledge and best practices to make care better in the 21 states where Trinity Health operates.

At the request of leaders of civic and medical groups in Athens, the Diocese of Georgia buys the hospital and property. Members of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus reopen and operate St. Marys.

St. Marys is accredited by the newly-formed Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals (later renamed the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations). St. Marys has been continuously accredited ever since.

St. Marys Hospital moves from Milledge Avenue to a larger, more modern building on Baxter Street. New services include an intensive care unit. Edward J. Fechtel Jr., is named as St. Marys first lay administrator.

St. Marys celebrates its change in sponsorship from the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and its full membership in Catholic Health East. Thomas E. Fitz, Jr., becomes St. Marys second lay President and CEO.

June 12 St. Marys announced its commitment to developing a Graduate Medical Education program medical residencies in partnership with the Georgia Health Sciences University/University of Georgia Partnership Medical School.

June 14- The personal care and memory care units at St. Marys Highland Hills Village passed rigorous state inspections for assisted living communities, making Highland Hills the first personal care facility in the Athens-Oconee area to successfully upgrade to licensure as an assisted living community.

As a not-for-profit health care system, St. Marys is committed not only to our patients, but also to the communities we serve. St. Marys is proud to give back to Athens and Northeast Georgia, which have supported our institution for more than a century. Community Benefit is the process by which St. Marys measures and reports the impact on our community of health improvement services, health professions education, research, and financial and in-kind contributions. Because we are a Catholic health care system, Community Benefit is a vital part of our mission and values. Community Benefit is also one of the justifications for our not-for-profit tax status.

Every three years St. Marys conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) in order to most effectively impact our community and to guide our Community Benefit planning. The CHNA is a thorough analysis of the health needs and assets in our community. The CHNA provides a comprehensive overview of the region we serve, including quantitative and qualitative data regarding socioeconomic factors, health indicators, and health status of the community. Not only is the CHNA an important tool for our health care system, but we also hope it serves as a resource for other organizations and citizens in our community. St. Marys first formal Community Health Needs Assessment was completed in the summer of 2010.

St. Marys Health Care System, which includes St. Marys Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Sacred Heart Hospital, is dedicated to acting as an involved community partner by donating time, services, money and sponsorship to a rich variety of community causes. In an effort to best serve our community, we ask that non-profit organizations requesting donations and/or sponsorship please review the St. Marys Sponsorship & Donations Policy.

If your organization meets the criteria in this policy, we welcome you to fill out the following Sponsorship & Donation Request Form and email the form to Lindsey Floyd at Lindsey.Floyd@stmarysathens.org. Requests are reviewed monthly by the Contributions Committee. In order to ensure that the Contributions Committee has enough time to consider each organizations request, we ask that you please try to submit sponsorship/donation requests 90 days in advance of the event date or date funds are due.

St. Marys Health Care System understands that issues like unstable housing, food insecurity, and low income can have a significant impact on your health as well as your quality of life. Our Community Health Worker can help connect you to valuable resources that can enhance your quality of life and can have a significant impact on your overall health.

During your initial conversation, the Community Health Worker will have an in-depth conversation with you to understand what needs you are currently experiencing, and which needs are having the biggest impact on your life. The Community Health Worker can then make referrals to different organizations that can provide the best resources to meet your needs.

Working with our Community Health Worker is completely free, and you will only receive referrals for organizations that provide free or reduced-cost services. If you are interested in connecting with our Community Health Worker, please email chw@stmarysathens.org.

If you are interested in learning more about Community Health Workers, please visit the National Association of Community Health Workers website or the Georgia Watch Community Health Workers and Access to Care website.
