Dr. J.B. Hays is an American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial certified surgeon and diplomate. He served on the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners for 5 years, commissioned for 2 years as president. He has also served on the Arkansas Board of Dental Examiners for 11 years.
Dr. Hays attended the University of Arkansas for his undergraduate degree. Thereafter, he attended the Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. At 22 years of age, he became one of the youngest graduates in school history. During his senior year, Dr. Hays was one of 5 seniors to receive the C.V. Mosby Scholarship Award.Dr. Hays then went on to serve and fellowship his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
In his pursuit of continued education, Dr. Hays earned a Mayo Foundation Fellowship. He received a graduate degree with a certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
Dr. Hays has always had a heart and home in Arkansas, assisting in the education and mentoring of over 70 practicing dentists. He serves weekly at one of the most helping non-profit medical-dental clinics in Arkansas.
Dr. Thomas Sarna is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who provides a full scope of services from simple removal of teeth to more advanced corrective surgery of the face and jaws. He has a particular interest in bone grafting and dental implant placement for rehabilitation of chewing function, especially in cases where few or no teeth remain.
Dr. Sarna went to dental school and was trained in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialty at the Illinois Medical District in Chicago. He began in practice in a group in Chicagos South Suburbs for 3.5 years. He trained dental students and residents at Midwestern University and Loyola Medical Center during this period.
In 2014, Dr. Sarna relocated with his family to Arkansas. Initially, he worked for a large orthodontic practice and traveled around the state to the groups various clinics that he had set up to provide a concierge style of oral surgery. Dr. Sarna started Half Moon Oral Surgery in 2016. He also became the oral surgeon for the Fayetteville VA Dental clinic in 2017 where he works with the General Practice residents. He holds hospital privileges at Northwest Hospital where he is a consultant for facial trauma. Additionally, he provides free evening oral surgery support services monthly at Welcome Health Clinic in Fayetteville.
Pericoronitis is an infection around the crown of an impacted tooth and usually occurs around partially impacted wisdom teeth. It can be very painful, causing swelling of cheek, gum and face and prevent normal chewing for several days. In teenagers, and twenty year olds this is the main reason we need to extract wisdom teeth.
Dr. Thomas 'Calvin' Vaughan III joined our practice in June 2021. Dr. Vaughan was born and raised in Little Rock and attended the University of Arkansas from 2006-to 2010. Next, he went to dental school at Texas A&M Baylor from 2010-to 2014. He completed his Medical School and OMS Residency at the University of Florida from 2014-to 2020. Dr. Calvin Vaughan is trained to perform a full scope of OMS procedures with special interests in dental implants and bone grafting, orthognathic surgery, surgical and non-surgical TMJ therapy, and maxillofacial trauma.

Great experience. I went for a consultation, and eventually implant surgery. Upon entering the office, I noticed it was quite busy. I was greeted promptly, and with courtesy. The forms were explained to me, and upon completion had a short wait to see the Doctor. Doctor Ashabranner, acted professionally and explained the procedure thoroughly. He generally seemed excited about answering my questions. The out of pocket cost were explained, and surgery was scheduled. I left feeling very confident about my decision. The office team reached out to me a week, and two days before my appointment, to make sure I knew what to expect. The morning of my surgery, I was not so confident. I walked in feeling nervous, and was greeted promptly again. After a short wait I was called back. (Trigger ominous music). It went from good to great when I reached the room. RDA Jessica was friendly, bubbly, caring and very competent. I mentioned my nerves and she kicked it into high gear, I seriously can not praise her enough. I was told everything I needed to know for the post op. Dr. Ashabranner came in like the pro he is. Told me everything he was about to do, and then did it with precision. Once again, he generally seemed excited and happy to help. I believe he loves his job, and his patients. The work has been great so far, a little sore, but nothing like I thought it would. Thank you guys, you are the best. If you made it through this review, and are looking for an oral surgeon. Look no farther than this clinic.

The staff at the Ft Smith location was very professional and informative, also compassionate toward both my daughter's they both had 4 wisdom teeth cut out. I highly recommend them!

super recommend . I have medical issues and Went to the fort smith location and has to get wisdom teeth removal due to impaction the staff was wonderful and helpful especially with patients with anxiety. the produce was quick and painless and I wasn't even sedated. 100/100 would let them yank and drill teeth out again. My nurse for the procedure went above and beyond and my doctor was dr.Ashburanner

To say it was an awesome experience is an understatement. The whole office was kind, quick and caring. I was very anxious about getting my wisdom teeth pulled, but the lady who brought me back quickly made that go away, she was the bomb dot com! Dr.Sarna was also very nice and comforting, but the best part is that he did the procedure in about 15 min, and I've had minimal swelling and pain, so I'd say he's pretty great! Thank you Half Moon!

I had to track down my referral after having it sent to HalfMoon two times. When my referral was located the staff was extremely rude and unsympathetic towards to me. I felt extremely judged by the fact that I didn't have dental insurance, which, I would like to just note is really closed minded and silly. --- Note to staff:: Just because someone doesn't have dental insurance doesn't mean they do not have money.

I've decided to share this review now having experienced very different treatment by front staff at both the Fayetteville and Fort Smith clinics. I took my daughter to the Fayetteville location to have her 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Sarna. There I found the staff to be personable, caring, thorough and compassionate. Dr. Sarna is the best! Very personable, compassionate, with a winning personality that was quick to put both my daughter and I at ease. The procedure was flawless and her recovery was quick and relatively painless! Now onto my recent experience with the Fort Smith clinic, where 6 days ago, I had to have all of my bottom teeth removed, under local anesthesia. There was a lot of back and forth with this location, as I'd had to reschedule multiple times (life happens, unfortunately not like we plan). I found the staff here to be rude, at times dishonest, and overall difficult to work with. To be perfectly honest, were there other choices in this immediate area, I'd have probably moved on and had the work done elsewhere. When I got to the clinic one thing I noticed upon arrival is their avoidance to turn your direction or look you in the eyes. They weren't overly rude in person, but they didn't go out of their way to be kind either. Once I got to the back, the young lady (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) who was assisting Dr. Sarna, was kind and considerate. When I started to cough, she immediately got me a bottle of water, came in and checked on me several times as we waited for the good doctor (he was busy with other procedures as he simultaneously prepared me for mine), asked me appropriate questions, and let me know she was there if I needed anything. Upfront I should say that in the past, I have had very bad experiences with dentists and I have a fear of them, as well as having anything done in my mouth. Having all of my teeth removed was scary and I was a nervous wreck! But Dr. Sarna was very kind, talked to me throughout the procedure, made sure I was completely numb before he started, and was extremely quick in getting all fractured teeth removed (he timed it at 5 minutes total). If I was basing my review and it's stars on his treatment alone, I would give 5 stars easily. He is an asset to his profession and I would recommend him to anyone. Unfortunately, I had to deal with some nonsense with some of his staff and that taints my overall experience. Someone from the clinic called me 2 days after the procedure to check on me, which I appreciated.

My mom was seen on October 6th for 4 teeth to be extracted. She has multiple health issues and is on oxygen. She had just been discharged from the hospital and had not regained her strength back. I was very concerned about her having the procedure and had many questions. From the very first phone call to the last email, Erin was extremely considerate and understanding to my mother's needs. When we arrived for her appointment, we were greeted and assisted by a wonderful young man who helped my mom into a wheelchair and took her inside. The Lady at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. Mom's dental assistant/nurse was perfect in every way and accommodating to my mom's needs! I think her name was Jessica??? I even got to go back and stay with mom throughout the entire procedure! Dr.Sarna was amazing with my mom. She said she never felt any pain while he removed the teeth and he was done in less than 5 minutes! I want to give out a HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL INVOLVED in my mom's care! You all are wonderful and made this such a pleasant experience! Thanks again!

The staff was great. They let me know step by step on what would take place. I was really relaxed and not nervous at all. I got my wisdom teeth taken out and they made sure to let me know before what I needed to do after the procedure and also talked to my sister and let her know step by step what needed to be done.

I definitely had an amazing experience with Half Moon. I was really nervous going in to have my wisdom tooth pulled. However, Dr. Sarna and his team made me feel very comfortable. Dr. Sarna team is very professional, friendly, respectful and caring. I definitely recommend that everyone to go to Half Moon. They are the BEST!!!
