Dr. J.B. Hays is an American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial certified surgeon and diplomate. He served on the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners for 5 years, commissioned for 2 years as president. He has also served on the Arkansas Board of Dental Examiners for 11 years.
Dr. Hays attended the University of Arkansas for his undergraduate degree. Thereafter, he attended the Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. At 22 years of age, he became one of the youngest graduates in school history. During his senior year, Dr. Hays was one of 5 seniors to receive the C.V. Mosby Scholarship Award.Dr. Hays then went on to serve and fellowship his residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
In his pursuit of continued education, Dr. Hays earned a Mayo Foundation Fellowship. He received a graduate degree with a certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
Dr. Hays has always had a heart and home in Arkansas, assisting in the education and mentoring of over 70 practicing dentists. He serves weekly at one of the most helping non-profit medical-dental clinics in Arkansas.
Dr. Thomas Sarna is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who provides a full scope of services from simple removal of teeth to more advanced corrective surgery of the face and jaws. He has a particular interest in bone grafting and dental implant placement for rehabilitation of chewing function, especially in cases where few or no teeth remain.
Dr. Sarna went to dental school and was trained in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialty at the Illinois Medical District in Chicago. He began in practice in a group in Chicagos South Suburbs for 3.5 years. He trained dental students and residents at Midwestern University and Loyola Medical Center during this period.
In 2014, Dr. Sarna relocated with his family to Arkansas. Initially, he worked for a large orthodontic practice and traveled around the state to the groups various clinics that he had set up to provide a concierge style of oral surgery. Dr. Sarna started Half Moon Oral Surgery in 2016. He also became the oral surgeon for the Fayetteville VA Dental clinic in 2017 where he works with the General Practice residents. He holds hospital privileges at Northwest Hospital where he is a consultant for facial trauma. Additionally, he provides free evening oral surgery support services monthly at Welcome Health Clinic in Fayetteville.
Pericoronitis is an infection around the crown of an impacted tooth and usually occurs around partially impacted wisdom teeth. It can be very painful, causing swelling of cheek, gum and face and prevent normal chewing for several days. In teenagers, and twenty year olds this is the main reason we need to extract wisdom teeth.
Dr. Thomas 'Calvin' Vaughan III joined our practice in June 2021. Dr. Vaughan was born and raised in Little Rock and attended the University of Arkansas from 2006-to 2010. Next, he went to dental school at Texas A&M Baylor from 2010-to 2014. He completed his Medical School and OMS Residency at the University of Florida from 2014-to 2020. Dr. Calvin Vaughan is trained to perform a full scope of OMS procedures with special interests in dental implants and bone grafting, orthognathic surgery, surgical and non-surgical TMJ therapy, and maxillofacial trauma.

Here at Halfmoon, I got my wisdom teeth removed about a year ago and never made a review until now! I had a very good experience because they went through the process and counted down for when they were about to give me a shot and there was about three to four doctors but it was completely comforting to have all to make sure the process went smoothly and i am very grateful for everything they did, it wasn't my first tooth removal process so i was fine! I am hoping to get an implant from halfmoon when I get to the adult age because i have a loose tooth from braces and just need an implant soon!! Thanks Halfmoon!!

I can't say enough about how well I was treated. I have many underlying health conditions that could have definitely affected the extraction of all four of my wisdom teeth. I had them pulled and cut out yesterday at 8:30 A.M and I feel amazing today.

I've been in pain and on copious amounts of OTC painkillers for years. I was losing the ability to enjoy my favorite meals, from the pain of chewing/biting, to the acid reflux. They scheduled me in super fast, addressed my concerns patiently and concisely, and had me out of there in no time. I haven't had a single painkiller, not even ibuprofen, since the surgery. I can finally sleep at night. I can't tell you how many times I've cried from the relief alone. Thank you for giving me some sense of normalcy, and getting rid of those awful wisdoms.

I went here with severely infected fillings that were literally killing me. These good people saved my life no other way to say it. The fillings had Mercury in them and i did not know. Never get budget fillings LOL pay for your dental its just easier in the long run.

Total slam dunk on my wisdom teeth extraction. I had it done 2 days ago and I don't have any pain or swelling. I got all 4 teeth removed at once. Super nice staff and they called to follow up to see how I was doing today.

I would not recommend half moon for wisdom teeth removal or any dental services. The front desk does not communicate with patients leaving patients confused on the process, when to expect communication, etc. They also quoted a price higher than my insurance rate- and after asking further stepped the price back to what it was supposed to be. Overall just not doing good business. I can't speak for the dental surgeons themselves because I didn't get that far.

We were referred to Half Moon, so I called to make an appointment. Ok, well after getting the Appointment date they asked for insurance information so it took a min to get all information but they did stay on the line with me until I found it all, after giving them all the information they asked for and getting the date fir the Appointment we hung up. Ok, so the day came for the Appointment, but when we got there, as we walked up to the window the lady sitting there never looked up and she said "what do you want" very rudely. Then when I told her we have an Appointment, she said no it was canceled do to no conformation and no proof of insurance. After I spent 25 to 30 min. On the phone with them making the Appointment and giving them the insurance information. I do not recommend them at all, they do not have any manners or people skills at all.

It was a very poor experience. I went in on my appointment date. The lady at the desk told me the person that scheduled my appointment had mistakenly scheduled it to be in Fort Smith. I live in Fayetteville. It had to be rescheduled for another day. I go to the new appointment date. I pay for my procedure including Nitrate. When I inquire about the nitrate before the procedure I am denied it. It was not included on the paper work as being paid for. Very poor customer service. I would not recommend or go back.

My adult child has severe special needs and required an oral surgeon for a tooth extraction. The staff was very professional and efficient from the front desk staff, nurses, accounting and doctor. Everyone treated him really well. I would highly recommend this business.

I had two upper wisdom teeth and two molars extracted on a Tuesday morning. Wednesday morning my mouth felt better than it had in years. No pain, minimal soreness. I would recommend Dr. Sarna for any tooth extraction. Also very professional with my insurance and estimated copay.

Got all four of my wisdom teeth removed here about a month ago and the process couldn't have gone any better. Dr. Sarna and the staff explained the whole procedure in detail and made sure I was comfortable and aware every step of the way. The professionalism and friendliness was shown and I could tell I picked the right place to get it done. Great price compared to other local dentists and a great experience. Highly recommended

I was really anxious going into the office but I really enjoyed the staff and doctor, the assistant Osvaldo made me feel real comfortable and calmed my anxiety, we laughed the whole time! I would def. recommend half moon oral surgery!

My husband just got a bad tooth pulled on Tuesday. Our insurance did not cover anesthesia. So he went in (alone bc of covid) and got his tooth pulled. They numbed him up with local anesthetic and he swears he didn't feel a thing. He has since recovered for the most part and is very happy with the service provided. We will be recommending Half Moon to all family and friends. Thank you for the wonderful service!
