Laura is a Registered Dental Hygienist who received her training from Allegany College of Maryland. She's been a hygienist for over 20 years and has been working with Dr. Cradduck at Hagerstown Family Dental for 7 years.

Laura loves supporting her patients' dental health, which in turn delivers excellent overall health. She appreciates the work and life balance her profession provides and she enjoys the excellent team she gets to work with everyday.

Danean is a Registered Dental Hygienist who received her degree from Allegany College of Maryland. She has over 10 years experience and has worked in various settings including public health and pediatrics. She has also earned degrees in psychology and social work.

Danean loves working with people and helping them achieve a better quality of life by improving their overall health and providing healthy smiles. She greatly enjoys being part of such a genuine and caring dental team that has the same values.

When Danean is not in the office, she can be found at Allegany College of Maryland teaching students to become future hygienists. In her spare time, she cherishes spending time with her family and friends, which she needs much more of!

When she's not helping patients, Lisa loves spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She can also be found reading and enjoying the great outdoors by walking, biking, swimming, and fishing.

Brianne is one of the first faces you will see when you arrive at Hagerstown Family Dental! She is currently a full time student at Hagerstown Community College in the dental hygiene program. She has been with the practice for one year and enjoys the relationships she's built with both the patients and her fellow team members.

Dry mouth, also known by its medical name, xerostomia is a condition characterized by either a lack of saliva or a decrease in its flow. Since saliva plays an important role in aiding digestion and maintaining good dental health, the consequences of xerostomia can be significant.

Three pairs of major salivary glands along with hundreds of minor salivary glands inside your mouth produce approximately 2-4 pints of saliva every 24 hours. Composed of 99% water and 1% electrolytes, enzymes and proteins; saliva washes over the teeth and surrounding soft tissues to cleanse and protect them from germs, tooth decay, and gum disease. Saliva also plays a key role in keeping the mouth lubricated and comfortable, so that food can be moved through the mouth easily for purposes of chewing, tasting and swallowing.

A lack of saliva makes simple oral functions more difficult and causes germs to increase in your mouth. More germs lead to bad breath, dental decay, gum disease, and provide the groundwork for a host of oral infections.

Treatment of dry mouth depends on the underlying cause of the problem. If it develops as a side effect of a particular drug, the physician may be able to prescribe an alternative medication. In some cases dry mouth may respond to drugs that promote an increased salivary flow. If not, artificial saliva can be used to keep the mouth moist and lubricated. As added protection, the dentist may recommend a prescription strength fluoride gel to help prevent tooth decay from developing. Patients can help alleviate some of the effects of dry mouth, by drinking water more often and avoiding drinks with caffeine or alcohol. They can also help to stimulate the flow of saliva by chewing sugarless gum or sucking on a sugarless candy. With dry mouth, it is essential to see the dentist on a regular basis for care.

Dr. Sidney Cradduck graduated cum laude from LeTourneau University in 1982 before going on to the University of Maryland Dental School. He graduated with his DDS degree in 1986 and then practiced as a Public Health Dentist for four years. Dr. Cradduck established his private dental practice in Hagerstown in 1990.

You might be wondering what the MAGD in Dr. Cradducks title stands for. It means Masters in the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). The AGD is the professional organization for general dentists, and it is the only one exclusively dedicated to representing the interests and serving the needs of general dentists. To achieve this Mastership Award in June 2012, Dr. Cradduck maintained current AGD membership for three continuous years, took 1,100 credits of approved Continuing Education (CE) in various dental disciplines, and passed a rigorous comprehensive exam. Dr. Cradduck says it was not easyonly 2% of dentists earn this distinctionbut it was worth it to offer his patients more up-to-date and leading-edge dental care.

Dr. Cradduck has taken more than 1,400 hours of CE courses, many of them focused on cosmetic and restorative dentistry. These courses include a comprehensive series at the Kois Center in Seattle, the Louisiana Cosmetic Continuum at Louisiana State University by Dr. Jimmy Eubank, completion of coursework at the Dawson Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, and three weeks of training at the world-renowned Pankey Institute.

Dr. Cradduck and his wife, Pamela, have eight children. Their family resides near Mercersburg, and they are involved in the community through church. Dr. Cradduck has spent several weeks on dental mission trips to Guatemala and Ecuador. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his kids soccer teams, and teaching Sunday School. He is an outdoorsman as well and cuts plenty of firewood to keep warm during the noreaster storms. Dr. Cradduck looks forward to getting to know you and your family!
