Dr. Steve Gwaltney, Dr. J. Ryland Gwaltney, and Dr. Whitney Gwaltney have years of experience in treating patients with a range of oral health needs and concerns. As a family of dentists, Drs. Gwaltney knows how important it is for all members of the family to get the dental care they need. Because of this, we offer family dentistry and pediatric dental care. Parents and their children can often arrange for both to receive treatment on the same day at our Suffolk dentist office.

Dr. J. Ryland Gwaltney was born and raised in Suffolk, Va. Hes proud to serve the area that has always been home. He earned his bachelors degree fromVirginia Tech, followed by his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He stays on the pulse of modern dental technology to provide advanced, high-quality treatment to patients of all ages.
He obtained his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Gwaltney is a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. By continuing to keep up with the latest advancements in dental technology, he is able to provide high-quality care to all of his patients.
Dr. Whitney B. Gwaltney is a native of southeastern North Carolina. She graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina State University and received her Doctorate from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Whitney joined the Gwaltney family dental practice in 2015. As a member of both the American Dental Association and the Virginia Dental Association, she is dedicated to helping patients receive high-quality, professional care.

Super professional service and staff. Everyone there makes you feel important and respected. They are great with kids and ensure they feel comfortable during cleanings and other procedures. They do excellent work and stand behind their craft. They do a wonderful job explaining the financial side of things and working with the insurance providers. I can't say enough good things about this dental practice. They are truly an amazing group of people from top to bottom.

Gwaltney Dentistry is THE best. The entire staff is friendly, professional, thorough and accommodating. The service is top notch and the dentistry is the best you'll find. I am always laughing during my visit (imagine that at a dentist!) Dr. Steve and Dr. Ryland are hilarious! You should really check them out!

This was my second visit. Everything was top notch, clean, up to date equipment and a very friendly staff. Everything was explained in great detail to assist me in making a plan to move forward to clean up the mess in my mouth. All in all it was a good experience, as much as it can be when having dental work.

All of the doctors, floor staff and office staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I have, shall we say, difficult teeth yet they use their considerable knowledge and ability to keep them in my mouth where they belong

These are GREAT people. Like everyone else, the dentist is NOT my favorite person to see. But these people really care, are very friendly and explained everything. Gotta say, if you really have to go to the dentist, Gwaltney Dental is the first choice.

Really content with this place. They offer all the services, and haven't needed to refer me out (which is something that other dentists have inconveniently done). I feel like I can trust their advice, and they explain all their reasoning on why they recommend any procedure. Usually they can accommodate my work schedule, only a few times have I had to take off work for dentist.

Angie, my dental hygienist is wonderful. First she does x-rays. She is very through and explains everything she is doing during my cleaning. Next she pulls up x-rays and notes from the last visit and compares to this X-ray a d current findings. She calls in the Dentist for confirmation and she and I discuss a plan of care. Throughout the visit she checks to be sure I am comfortable. She has a pleasant, cheerful, positive outlook. Gwaltney has state of the art equipment making it easier to diagnose and less time consuming to treat the patient. They are a full service turnkey practice. I recommend them. Sincerely Mrs. Haywood.
