Dr. Guymon loves coming into the office every day. After 20 years in this profession, I still look forward to coming to work each day. Dr. Guymon opened his orthodontic practice in Meridian in 1997. He has served as the president of the Idaho State Orthodontic Association and president of Southwest Idaho Dental Society. He has been recognized for numerous scholastic and leadership achievements, but the one he is most proud of is being a finalist in the Treasure Valley Integrity Counts Award for the way he runs his business. Dr. Guymon is also very involved in community service and actively serves in numerous church positions.
Dr. Guymon grew up in southern California and speaks fluent Spanish. He loves the Spanish language and people. He enjoys reading and participating in almost every sport in his spare time. He enjoys active challenges to keep in shape and has completed several triathlons and bike races. His favorite thing to do is hang out with his wife and high school sweetheart, Alison, with their two boys, Adam and Grant, and their beautiful adopted daughter Grace.

Each month, Dr. Guymon selects one or two candidates that will receive a GO 20/20 Scholarship*. The gift of an awesome smile will surely increase the recipients confidence and you know what that can do for children and their future.
To qualify, a candidate must be between 11 and 17 years of age and come from a family situation that would not otherwise be able to afford correction. They must be willing to have their treatment documented on social media to share the positive energy Dr. Guymon hopes this program brings. Candidates will be selected from the applicants you nominate!
You may not be aware that while there is government assistance for struggling families in need of basic dental care, the opportunity for braces is almost non-existent. You know the value of a smile, and the GO Smiles Scholarship provides a way for you to be part of sharing that value with those with the greatest need. I had just turned 18 and I signed a contract with Guymon to receive orthodontic treatment. Throughout my treatment I observed some very poor customer service on behalf of Guymon. He was very brisk when it came to seeing each patient. He was not willing to engage with patients. When I brought up concerns to Guymon, he would swiftly disregard them and then continue to tell me that what I observed was in fact a fault on my part. He would then move to complement his work and explain to me that it was beyond perfect and my observations were false. When I came in for my last appointment I was expecting to be told I still had more time left for treatment. My top two front teeth along with my incisor that was twisted at the beginning of treatment were not aligned. My bite was also off and my molars were not connecting on the left side of my mouth. Despite these issues my braces were swiftly removed. I moved from the state of Idaho but approximately 8 months after the end of my treatment I scheduled another appointment with Guymon to address my concerns. I traveled to Idaho for my appointment but Dr Guymon was not present. Another doctor saw me and instead of correcting the misaligned teeth he told me all he could do was shave my permanent tooth down to make it appear more straight. I was very weary and did not agree to this treatment. I was worried about my enamel and sensitivity. The orthodontic hygienists, a young woman, who was present for my conversation with the doctor assured me that this was safe and she would accept the same treatment. They continued to shave my tooth down. I felt that what had happened to me was unfair and that since they had already acknowledged that the misaligned teeth were in fact a product of the braces, not anything I did that they should have corrected the issue, not opted in for a cheaper option to benefit their business. I later told someone who also had children in braces what Dr Guymon's office had done to me. They swiftly made another appointment with the office and even attended the appointment with me. We explained to Guymon what had happened and he immediately stated that what the other doctor had done was reasonable and he didn't disagree with his approach. We then explained that besides the cosmetics of my misaligned teeth, my bite was still off. My removable retainers I was printed when my braces were removed clearly showed the misaligned teeth and even the crooked and misaligned molars they were not in alignment for my jaw. Guymon stated that I had an "A" set of teeth now and that he isn't required to provide "A+" treatment, which is what he claimed I was asking him for. I explained to Guymon I had been experiencing TMJ due to the misalignment in my jaw. Guymon promptly stated that there was no way my jaw issues could be a result of my orthodontic treatment and then stated being a young individual and female would make TMJ something I would be more likely to develop. He continued to explain that there was no way to prove the issues began because of my orthodontics and that life factors and stress could cause TMJ, not my treatment. When it became clear Guymon had no intention of correcting my TMJ we asked what he would be willing to do about my misaligned teeth. He offered to create a Hawley retained that would put pressure on my top left front tooth to counter the twist that had been created from braces. He instructed me to wear the Hawley retainer full time for 2 weeks and then said I would be required to switch between my original removable retainer and my Hawley retainer as needed to prevent my tooth from over correcting. After wearing the Hawley retainer for a week I was experiencing extreme pain in my incisor located right next to my left tooth. My incisor became very lose and was visibly wiggling and began twisting in the original direction it was in before I began my orthodontic treatment. After keeping an eye on that I made the decision to remove the Hawley retainer and go back to wearing my regular retainer. I felt that I was taken advantage of. Be wary of this doctor.

The staff is amazing! So friendly and thorough. The office is clean and spacious. There was quite a bit of information and it was all presented thoroughly. I really appreciated that the information for my daughter in terms of cleaning and maintaining her braces was presented to her directly. It put the responsibility in her hands.
