Our practice was started in Royal Oak in the early 1940s by our cousin Dr. Norman Vielmette at the corner of Second and Center across from the post office. Our father, Dr. Donald Gustafson, took over the practice in 1957 and relocated the office to its current location in 1971. We have owned the practice since 1988, and recently completed a total remodeling project, including state of the art dental and sterilization equipment.
At Gustafson & Morningstar Family Dentistry we strive for a No pain, No Surprises Dentistry. In fact, we have built more than a dental practice, we have created a Dental Home. Our newly remodeled office provides a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere you would expect in a home setting.
We are committed to patient comfort. In fact, we have built our practice on No Surprises Dentistry. With your first visit you will see our commitment to outstanding, long term dental care. By attending continuing educational programs we stay current with the latest equipment and procedures. We provide many of the latest solutions to many common dental problems.
Dr. Steven D. Gustafson is a native of Royal Oak. He earned his degree in Biology from Adrian College. He then studied for his dental degree at Loyola University Chicago College of Dental Surgery. He graduated from Loyola in 1984 with his D.D.S and, a year later, married Dr. Shari Morningstar.
A resident of Royal Oak, he is active in the community, serving on the board of the South Oakland Boys and Girls Club. He is also a member of the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Oak Optimist Club.
Dr. Shari B. Morningstar, originally from Lancaster, California, received her undergraduate degrees in Biology and Gerontology from the University of Southern California. She also studied for her dental degree at Loyola University Chicago College of Dental Surgery and graduated with her D.D.S. in 1984.
She is a member of the Oakland County Dental Society, Michigan Dental Association, and American Dental Association. Married to Dr. Gustafson since 1985, she is a resident of Royal Oak and a member of the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce.
Elise is currently serving as our business assistant. She does an amazing job, not only with our finances but also in working with each patient to help them get the quality care they deserve. We love the real feeling of community and teamwork that she brings to our office.
Outside of work, there are two things Elise loves to spend her time on: food and the great outdoorsoften both at the same time. Together with her husband, she enjoys cooking, camping, hiking, and trying new foods. She also likes to relax with a little bit of sewing.

I hate going to the dentist. But the team at GM is really great. Everyone is cool af. Dr. Gustafson is my fav dentist of all time -- such a homie. Chose this place if you are looking for a dentist.

Hello this is the second time I had a bad experience with this dentist office . Someone was supposed call me Monday to reschedule . I got no phone call or email . I'm will give this dentist off one more chance. But if this continues. I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to take my business somewhere else .

Best teeth cleaning ever. Staff did an outstanding job leaving me with the best smile. Thanks for a job well done One year later: Today I had my teeth cleaned and they never have felt better except after the last time Ashley cleaned my teeth. No one at any clinic has ever cleaned my teeth more thoroughly and professionally. Ashley can make teeth whiter and put a smile on your face when you look in the mirror.
