A farm boy at heart, Dr. Gulland grew up outside of Titusville on the family farm and was the oldest of three boys. Aside from raising crops and hay, he raised beef and milk cows, pigs, and chickens. He was very active in 4-H and if you are lucky, you will hear about his prize-winning Holstein cow, Westbridge Star Marvix Judy! Today, he resides in Hermitage, PA, and while the farm animals are gone, he still enjoys gardening and caring for his berry bushes and heirloom fruit trees.
After graduating from Maplewood High School, Dr. G attended Penn State University, earning a B.S. degree in biology. Always wanting to work in healthcare, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry and so enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He graduated third in his class, which allowed him to gain entrance to the very competitive Medical College of Virginia where he completed his orthodontic residency.
Gulland Orthodontics has been a fixture in Mercer County since 1990 with offices in both Hermitage and Greenville. Many of our local dentists and physicians trust Dr. G for their familys orthodontic care. Dr. G often says one of the best things he does is surround himself with good people. He is very proud of the team he has assembled, not only because of their skills but also because of the kindness and compassion they bring to his practice.
He regularly attends educational seminars and training programs taught by some of the most respected names in the profession and maintains numerous active memberships, including in the American Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Gulland and his wife, Debbie, reside in Hermitage, and he has two grown stepchildren. He is an American history addict and an avid collector of early antiques. Aside from gardening, he enjoys woodworking.
In the gym or at the office, Wendy has been impacting young lives for over 25 years. As a competitive gymnastic coach, Wendy has guided young hopefuls from beginners to national championships. At Gulland Orthodontics, her wealth of orthodontic knowledge combined with her natural communication ability helps her guide patients from initial exam to braces on!
When you least expect it, expect it! This sums up Lavinas experience with Gulland Orthodontics. In 2000, an unexpecting Lavina entered our office for an initial exam. She was not looking for a career change, but we had an opening and saw Lavina as a natural fit. The rest as they say, is history! Lavina is cross-trained in many areas of the office besides her current position as treatment coordinator.
We absolutely loved Kims smile at her interview. Why? She had her interview the same day as her braces were removed in 2012 . Now she shares her smile as part of the Gulland Orthodontic team both when you walk in the door or call on the phone.
If you hear someone in the office talking about cats, it is probably Lynda. Lynda joined our office in 1999 with no pets! But over the years, one cat for her son turned into four as she found (or they found her) stray cats near her home.
If you are in the office and see a blur moving through the treatment area, it is probably Sarah, who joined our team in 2013. Nicknamed Kramer, Sarah is always on the move. Recently she has become the guru of our new digital scanner and 3D printers and is an expert at making fit like a glove retainers.
Joining our team in 2018, Katey has skills beyond orthodontic assisting. She has culinary training and is certified to work on cruise ships! Another one of our younger teammates, Katey has the ability to easily relate to our patients and put them at ease.
If you dont know the lyrics, make them up and sing! This is Kims motto. If the right song comes on while you are in the office, you will no doubt hear her belt out a few lines! Oh, who are we kidding? When any song comes on, you will hear her sing!
Show Kristina almost anything and you will hear her squeal with delight, Thats adorable! Kristina is our youngest team member and will admit she is easily excited. We have known Kristina and her whole family for many years as she, her sister and two brothers were all patients of Dr. Gs.
Gullands Gang offers perks just for its young members. Get a treat at each visit, enter contests in our office, receive mail from our staff, attend our annual Family Fun Skating Party and enter contests on our social media platforms, just to name a few.

Our son was very anxious on our way to his consultation but when we arrived, we were met by a beautiful and friendly lady who gave us a tour, explained every procedure and answered every question in a clear concise manner. Our son was able to relax and enjoyed his interaction with the staff and Dr. Gulland. He loved the idea of having an iPad to play on while waiting for his appointment.

We had a great office visit. They have a super friendly staff and made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in the door. They made my daughter feel super comfortable in a new situation. I would definitely recommend Dr.Gullands office.

Prepare to be impressed from the moment you arrive. Ms. Lavina anticipating our arrival, stood at the front desk to greet us warmly (by name) as we entered. Paperwork had been mailed to me earlier to fill in and bring to the appointment. I had expected a mound of papers to complete but was pleasantly sur po rised to have just 1 page front and back. Detailed information about Dr. Gulland, the staff and what to expect was also enclosed. We were given a tour of the facility to include a fully stocked toothbrushing station where students arriving directly from school could brush & freshen up before appointment. The entire facility is sparkling clean, inviting and staffed by people who clearly are both professional and sincerely care about their patients. We were kept completely informed with every step, not rushed and given every opportunity to ask questions and receive clear answers. After images were taken, Dr Gulland examined my daughter while Ms Levine transcribed his remarks. The 4 of us then sat at the table where Dr Gulland went over the images and outlined his treatment plan. He is soft spoken, humorous and thorough. We were in good hands! No detail of information or patient/parent comfort was overlooked. Simply the most professional & amazing experience we have EVER encountered. We left feeling like a valued member of the Gulland Orthodontics family along with a folder of the images, information (and a fresh cookie). Our daughter was actually sad to have to wait until a few baby teeth come out before returning! HIGHLY recommend Gulland Orthodontics. Thank you!

I am an older adult who saw Dr G, Lavina and Kristina for a first visit conference. I was very nervous and embarrassed to be there at my age but they made me feel very comfortable and the visit went very well. Dr G gave me a couple options and explained them very well to me! Lavina is so kind and very patient. She also went over everything and explained everything to me. Thank you to Dr G and the staff!

3 Girls in braces at Dr. Gulland's office and our experience has been great! The staff has been so friendly and helpful. Anytime we've had an issue we call the office and are able to get in to get it taken care of. So glad we chose Dr Gulland years ago!

I had braces myself many years ago by Dr. Gulland. He and his staff then were wonderful through the entire process. Now I just took my son for his consultation with Dr. G. Everyone is so kind, and the consultation process is very thorough.
