False teeth are false teeth, right? Not exactly. There are a few options available for replacing teeth, and dentures retained with dental implants are becoming the standard of care and for good reason.

Regular dentures can rub against the gums, and they have nothing to hold them in place especially in the lower jaw. Because there are no teeth or implants to stimulate it, the bone shrinks, and chewing can become close to impossible.

But implant-supported dentures draw strength from the bone. They arent meant to rest on the gums; but instead the bone anchors them in place. This gives them added strength and prevents them from slipping. In addition, dental implants also stimulate the bone, and as a result, the bone is far less likely to resorb or shrink or create any sore spots.

Patients with edentulism (toothlessness) are often eligible for the All-on-X (Four or Six) treatment concept. A thorough evaluation of any patient is necessary in order to choose the right treatment and to establish a predictable treatment outcome.

For the patient who has deteriorating teeth and needs dentures, this is as close as you can get to your natural teeth. The fixed full-arch restorations are FIXED in place, meaning you cant take them in and out.

For the patient who already has dentures, its like having your teeth back again. Also, the plastic is removed from the roof of your mouth. Now, you can eat your favorite foods, like steak or corn on the cob, and actually taste it!

Heres the beauty of this technique. The back 2 implants are angulated to maximize your existing bone and almost eliminate bone grafts and the months of healing time. You can actually have the implants placed (under sedation) and have your teeth attached to the implants all in the same day. If you are one whose teeth are hopeless, the majority of the time, we can remove the teeth, place the implants, and attach the fixed full-arch restoration all in the same day! You come in with the smile you dislike so much, and you leave with a total smile transformation!

Below is a description of Greystone Smile Designs implant placement protocol using a surgical guide from a three dimensional xray.

Using our implant placement planning software, an implant is virtually placed in the desired location. This means that we can virtually place the implant on a computer using the exact dimensions of the implant, placed in the exact location, at the exact angle, and at the exact depth. This is as exact as it can get. This information is then sent to our lab where they print a 3D surgical guide based off of our virtual rendering.

Surgical Phase: The 3D surgical guide is used to duplicate the exact virtual placement. Its not just a guide to assist with the placement; its a guide to duplicate the virtual placement. The 3D surgical guide is made to correlate with our implant placement kit. The guide makes sure each drill sequence is angle controlled and depth controlled. The result is absolute perfect placement of the dental implant.
