Gretchen Heinsen, D.M.D., M.Sc.D received her degree in Endodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry from the Endodontic program of Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry in 1984. Her dental degree is from the University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry. She has been practicing in Broward County since 1984. Dr. Heinsen has served as an adjunct professor for a period of 10 years (1996-2006) at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Gretchen Heinsen has been active in numerous academic and professional organizations, including the Boston University Endodontic Alumni, the American Dental Association of Endodontics, Broward County Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, American Dental Association and various local study clubs.
Dr. Gretchen Heinsen has also been involved in non-profit organizations such as the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale, Boys and Girls Club of Broward County and as the incoming president of the Junior Welfare Society.
Root Canals A root canal is a treatment needed to restore a tooth that is badly deteriorated or becomes infected so that it can be saved. During a root canal procedure, the pulp and the nerve are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.

Root Canal Micro Surgery (Apicoectomy) This form of endoscopic microsurgery involves going in through the gums to remove the infected material and the root-tip. The end of the canal may be sealed with a filling. The gums will be stitched closed allowing for proper healing to take place.
Apexogenesis Is a procedure that addresses the shortcomings involved with capping the inflamed dental pulp of an incompletely developed tooth. The goal of Apexogenesis is the preservation of vital pulp tissue so that continued root development with apical closure may occur
Nitrous oxide (Available upon request) Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. Nitrous oxide is one option offered upon request to help make you more comfortable during the root canal procedures

Dr. Heinsen is technically proficient and actually corrected work done previously. She is kind and pleasant. She has extraordinary technique. She is a blessing.

Wow- Dr. Heinsen is exceptional. Her candor, positive energy and skill set is unmatched. She's the Endo you only dream of . Her personality and enthusiasm for her work shows and she makes certain that her work is quality. True professional! I visited 2 Endodontists' offices before I came to Dr. Heinsen . She put me at ease and was able to perform my root canal with minimal discomfort. Overall discomfort 1 out of 10. I've had worse fillings. Her assistant was amazing. The office was clean and I was seen timely. I was quite overwhelmed walking in and was pleasantly surprised and left feeling relieved. Thank you soooo much!

The best endodontic in town!!! Took my 9-year-old for a root canal. The doctor suggested the best option and avoided root canal procedures and fixed my daughter's teeth. Not only she fixed it but the whole treatment was pain-free.

As others have reviewed, I went to Dr. Heinsen to get a root canal. She's a true professional and has a great personality to compliment her excellent work. Her staff is also well trained, organized, and polite. Great experience.

Root canals aren't fun but if you need one please visit Dr Heinsen. She is not only incredibly talented but very compassionate. Decades of experience and a gentle caring touch is a win win. It was actually a pleasurable experience if that's even humanly possible with a root canal.

Dr Gretchen was fantastic, professional, maximum attention to detail and extremely caring, a root canal has the reputation of being one of the most scary and painful experiences, this was not the case with Dr Gretchen, overall it has an excellent experience and i am writing this review on the day after, almost pain free. Nicole, the Dr assistant was also flawless and caring, same as Stephanie in the reception. It is very rare to find a team like this. Thanks!

Went to Dr. Heinsen to get a root canal and I was extremely pleased with how pain free the entire process was. She talked me through everything and checked on me regularly during the process. Her staff is also well trained, organized, and polite. Best dental experience I've ever had!

A+++! I had a root canal on a tooth that broke. Dr. Heinsen was awesome. Absolutely no pain. She was very considerate of the fact I have a horrible gag reflex and put the dental dam positioned such that I could breath well and did the root canal procedure with me slightly inclined versus laying more flat down. I will recommend Dr. Heinsen any day any time!
