Dr. Julie Paynter, a Northeast Portland native, and Dr. Mitch Paynter, who hails from Caldwell, ID, met and married while in Dental school at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, OR.Following their graduation in 2002, they were commissioned United States Naval Officers. They completed a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) in 2003 at the Great Lakes Naval Dental Center inGreat Lakes, IL. Dr. Mitch spent three years on the USS Abraham Lincoln and one year at theUS Naval Air Station inWhidbey Island, WA whileDr. Julie served three years at the Naval Station in Everett, WA.
Since 2006, they have been dedicated to serving their patients dental needs at Paynter Family Dentistry.Recently, they have partnered with Gresham Dental. Dr. Julie is most often practicing at Paynter Family Dentistry on Powell and Dr. Mitch is most often practicing at the Gresham Dental location on Civic Drive, in Gresham Station.

This office used to be run by a different dentist who was and had much more competent staff. A few years ago they expanded to take up the the rest of the building. Most of the staff turned over, as well as the dentists themselves. The reviews from before this probably don't apply. I was willing to let that go, its easy and im in the schedule, and never had any major issues until recently. Was billed in error for a service clearly covered by my insurance, because the office did not deliver the paperwork to the insurance company (which i have in writing). In order to not have a late fee, i decided to pay out of pocket this and follow up in person. I inquired about this on my last visit, and the staff readily agreed that there was indeed a billing error, that they would get it straightened out, and that i would be refunded. The office then left a voicemail shortly after i left, saying the same thing. When no refund, returned calls or clarification came, I disputed the charge with my creditor, which is my right to do. Six months later they call to cancel my appointment the next day, and say they couldnt figure it out, had just now noticed, claimed they sent a letter about it before (which never arrived) and proceeded to blame the customer for a mistake they themselves admitted to previously. They then vaguely articulated my appointment was to be canceled. Ridiculous customer service on so many levels. Don't go here because the care is sub-par compared to the staff that earned most of the old reviews. Also don't go because their billing staff is incompetent and unable to work with modern insurance companies. You will end up getting billed for stuff that's covered because its easier for them to pass the buck onto you than figure it out. They will admit fault and then take it back. Im sure they may respond and deny the facts of the matter to save face. Don't believe them. The new management is shady af.

Had my first meeting with Dr. Ty of Gresham Dental today. So nice and accommodating to my dental needs. I had my regular cleaning and my hygienist as always was top notch. Can't say enough good things about this place! Not your old school dentist for sure!

Charged me $400 extra after giving me a quote for a crown. I called the office to negotiate, they said somebody will call, but nobody called. Had I known the correct price ahead of time, I would have seen my favorite dentist instead for better results.

Love Dr Julie Paynter and everyone in this office. I've been a client for 4 years now after not seeing a dentist for 10 years. I'm a nervous patient and they are so kind, communicative, non judgemental and patient. Couldn't recommend them more!

I broke a front tooth years back & had a crown on it. My tooth broke again too low to put a crown on, so I ended up needing an implant. Dr Mitch gave me great guidance & helped me through all the unknowns. He is an excellent dentist & all of the staff members I've had the pleasure of meeting are wonderful. I know have a temporary crown on he placed while my implant heals.
