Dr. Gregory Hillyard and Dr. Alexandra Monroe are the fourth generations of family dentists that have been practicing in our Media, Pennsylvania dental office. Our office welcomes patients and families from our local community and also serves Newtown Square and other communities in the mainline area of Philadelphia.

Dr. Alexandra Monroe is trained in implantology, which means she is able to provide all implant services under one roof. Dr. Monroe works with patients needing to replace missing teeth or who are suffering from poorly fitted dentures to create personalized treatment plans.

Dr. Monroe has also been trained at the renowned Academy of Facial Aesthetics. She provides Botox and dermal fillers to address cosmetic concerns and assuage orofacial pain caused by bruxism and TMJ. Drs. Hillyard and Monroe pride themselves on creating great personal relationships with their patients. They focus on the longevity of their patients smiles and believe in the importance of oral health to support physical health.

Dr. Hillyards family has lived and worked in Media, PA for generations. His grandfather, Dr. Pike, became one of the first dentists in Delaware County when he opened his practice in 1909 at the corner of State and Olive. When Dr. Hillyards uncle took over the dental practice from his father, he moved the office to a property immediately adjacent to his parents home on 2nd and Monroe in downtown Media.

Dr. Hillyards love of dentistry began in his uncles Media dental office where he spent many childhood weekends visiting his grandparents and playing in the dental lab. In 1985, Dr. Hillyard graduated from the University of Pennsylvania just like the generations before him. He went on to become the third generation dentist in the family. In 1993, Dr. Hillyards uncle retired, and Dr. Hillyard took over the practice, and in 1995 he moved the practice to its current location at 47 State Road.

The current office, a farmhouse built in 1916, was originally the home of Pierson Pike, Dr. Hillyards great uncle. The property at one time had 35 adjoining acres and served as an asparagus and celery farm. Piersons daughter Anna Retta Cushman lived in the home until it was purchased by Dr. Hillyard and his wife, Diane, in 1995.

It was important to them to maintain the original house with its rich history, and they painstakingly renovated the building and added an addition on the back, the current location of the dental operatories. In 1997, Dr. Hillyard and his wife received a plaque and recognition from the historical society for their efforts in restoring this historic property.

In 2014, Dr. Hillyard welcomed his daughter, Dr. Alexandra Monroe to the practice. With training and experience in cosmetic dentistry and implant dentistry, Dr. Monroe adds a fresh, new component to the office.

Dr. Hillyard and Dr. Monroes strong roots in the town of Media have given them a strong appreciation for the towns rich history, and both dentists and their staff are proud to be active members of the Media, Pennsylvania community.

Dr. Hillyard and Dr. Monroe are celebrities at local elementary schools, where he and the giant puppet Flossy visit often to teach kindergarteners about dental care. Flossy and Dr. Hillyard demonstrate proper brushing and flossing to help young students establish good dental care habits.

Dr. Hillyard is also a long time supporter of local little leagues and is a loyal contributor to the scholarship program at the Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, PA. We live in your community. We are your friends and your neighbors, and we remain as dedicated to the health and happiness of our community members as we do to the individual needs of each of our patients.

Patient safety is a top priority in our Media, PA dental office. Our staff follows medical precautions to reduce direct contact. We utilize Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) and state-of-the-art headgear and filtration systems from Clearmaxx. By wearing PPE, our dental staff prevents the transmission of infection. Dr. Gregory Hillyard is a part of his familys third generation of dentists to practice dentistry in Media, Pennsylvania. Since 1985, Dr. Hillyard has consistently provided patients in Media, PA with comprehensive dental services they need to keep their smiles healthy.

Dr. Hillyard has nearly three decades of dental experience and a proven ability to produce stunning results. Dr. Hillyard is a graduate of the prestigious University of Pennsylvania Dental School. Each year, Dr. Hillyard participates in continuing education at Penn Dental to ensure that he keeps on top of changes in the ever-evolving field of dentistry. By remaining an active member of two local study groups of fellow dentists, he further expands his knowledge of dental techniques, philosophies, and technology. Continuing education efforts help him maintain the most advanced care possible.

Dr. Alexandra Hillyard Monroe received her Doctoral of Dental Medicine degree from The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2013. Upon graduation, she was the sole recipient of the Clinical Achievement in Restorative Dentistry Award.

Following dental school, Dr. Monroe completed a general practice residency at Bellevue Hospital in New York City where she focused on implant placement and restoration. She provides single and multiple implant restorations to patients as well as bone grafting services for a more stable result. Dr. Monroe offers all dental implant services under one roof for the convenience and comfort of her patients.

Dr. Monroe graduated from The Episcopal Academy in 2005 and went on to Washington and Lee University where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in mathematics in 2009. Patient comfort is of the utmost importance to Dr. Monroe. She strives to provide the highest quality of care while focusing on each individual patients needs and desires for their own smiles.

Growing up, Dr. Monroe was always fascinated watching her dad, Dr Hillyard, in his dental office. From the time she was a little girl. she had a propensity towards medicine and helping others. When her little brother would get a splinter in his finger, he would immediately go to his sister to remove it rather than his mom, which led to her family nicknaming her, Dr. Ali. Dr. Monroe has always loved to make tiny art projects. Now, she applies that artistry and skill in making beautiful smiles.

Kristen Clark has served as the office manager supporting Dr. Hillyard and his team for the past 18 years. Her most important job is interacting with our patients and ensuring their visit is as comfortable as possible. She is available to answer any questions they may have, including helping our patients understand their insurance coverage and benefits.

Working in the office for so many years, she has established meaningful relationships with both patients and their families, and she appreciates being a part of such a highly qualified dental team. For her, the office team has become her second family and she could not imagine working anywhere else.

Barbara Zerr has worked in Dr. Hillyards dental office for 2 years. She received a bachelor of science from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Barbara has over twenty-five years of experience in the medical field, including working at the Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital and in-home care for Home Nurse and Main Line Health.

Michele Miller has worked in Dr. Hillyards office for 17 years. She graduated from the Community College of Philadelphia in 1981 and worked in several well respected general and periodontal dental practices before joining Dr. Hillyards office.

Michele is regarded by many as one of the best hygienists in our area and works hard to ensure that all her patients have the very best oral care. After all these years, she still finds it rewarding to work with patients in achieving good oral health. Working with Dr. Hillyards practice has enabled her to stay on the cutting edge of dentistry.

Danielle ODonnell has worked in Dr. Hillyards office for 10 years. She earned her degree from Harcum College in 2005. Danielle loves working in Dr. Hillyards office with state of the art equipment that allows her to treat all of her patients with the very highest level of care. Patients love Danielles thorough, yet gentle, cleanings.

Janice Carr has been with Dr. Hillyards dental office for 17 years. She graduated from McCarrie Technical School in 1987 with a degree in dental lab technology and went on to Harcum College where she received her license to become an expanded function dental assistant. She enjoys working in an office equipped with the very latest in dental technology for their patients.

Jan is especially good at helping patients who have fear of dental procedures stay calm and relaxed. Jan has great stories to tell, which keep her patients completely distracted and enjoying the conversation.

Mary Beth Rafferty has worked with Dr. Hillyard for 28 years. When she first started working in the practice, he personally trained her to be the full-time receptionist and dental assistant. As the office grew, from just the two of them to full dental staff, her responsibilities have changed, as did the size of the practice. Today, the office has the most up to date dental sterilization lab, x-Ray equipment, and computer programs.

Mary Beth loves that whether she is working at the front desk or assisting Dr. Hillyard, they are able to provide the best care for their patients. She touts Dr. Hillyard as an amazing person and doctor, who has helped make the office one big happy family.

Alicia Little has worked with Dr. Hillyards office for three years. She graduated from Brightwood Technical School in April of 2018 and was hired a month later with a certificate in Dental Assisting. She chose to become a dental assistant because every patient and procedure is different and she especially loves working with people! She is beyond great full to work for Dr. Hillyard. He makes the staff and patients feel safe and keeps up on all the latest technology.

Noreen Kenny has been employed in Dr. Hillyards office for 3 months. She has worked as a dental assistant for 8 years. Noreen graduated from Harcum college with an associates degree dental assisting. Noreen loves working with patients and likes to help them feel comfortable.

Kimberly Purcelltrained at Dental Careers Institute, She has worked as a dental assistant since 2003. Kim has been a pat of the staff at Dr. Hillyards office for 4 years. Her favorite part about assisting is developing personal relationships with hesitant, fearful patients. Watching their transformations both mentally and esthetically is so exciting!
