Bad breath, known as Halitosis in dentistry, is primarily caused by poor oral hygiene. However it can also can be caused by retained food particles, gum disease, drainage from sinus dripping or systemic, or even gastrointestinal problems. Proper brushing is essential. Brushing the tongue, cheeks, and the roof of the mouth will remove bacteria and food particles. Flossing removes bacteria (the smelly stuff), plaque and food that may be trapped between teeth. If bad breath still persists, we are happy to talk with you and create a plan to overcome it!

It is recommended by the American Dental Association that you visit your dentist every 6 months. However, many people choose to visit more frequently to get their teeth cleaned. By seeing your dentist twice a year, your dentist can monitor your oral health, diagnose any potential issues, and prevent future dental issues early on.

Bleeding gums is an early indicator of Gingivitis, or swollen gums. This is usually caused by plaque and/or calculus sitting under the gumline. If left untreated, gingivitis can lead to bone loss and eventual tooth loss. However with proper brushing and flossing, Gingivitis can be reversed within a few weeks. If bleeding persists two to three weeks, come talk with us.

Root Planing is a dental technique performed by a doctor to stop the effects of Periodontal disease (infection of the gums). The procedure cleans below the gumline and smooths the roots of your teeth. When the roots are smoothed, the gums will reattach to the root, thus stopping the infection from spreading.

Gum (periodontal) disease is caused by bacteria in the gums. This bacteria, if left along the gumline, overtime will irritate the gums and cause an inflammation reaction, or an infection. This inflammation causes the gums to start bleeding. If this inflammation is allowed to continue, the jawbone will begin to dissolve. As the bone dissolves around the teeth, the teeth become unsupported and begin to fall out. Unfortunately, pain does not occur until the final stages of the disease, when treatment has very little chance of being successful. This is why regular visits with your dentist are very important. If your gums bleed regularly, contact us as soon as possible.

We strongly recommended that children wear a mouthguard while playing any contact sport. It is always better to prevent an injury than to repair one, especially with mouth injuries. The earlier a child begins to wear the mouthguard, the easier it is to become comfortable and continue to wear it as they get older.

It is very important to maintain the baby teeth because these teeth hold space for the future eruption of the permanent teeth. If a baby tooth decays or is removed too early, the space necessary for the permanent teeth is lost and can only be regained through orthodontic treatment. Infected baby teeth can cause the permanent teeth to develop improperly resulting in stains, pits and weaker teeth.

The American Dental Association strongly recommends that children begin seeing a dentist between 18 and 24 months. Some children require a bit more time to be comfortable. This is why a personable, kid friendly dentist is so important, and what our team strives to be. If any dental concerns arise for your child, contact us immediately and we are happy to help.

When the removal of wisdom teeth is determined necessary, it is best done when the roots are approximately 2/3rds formed. This is usually in the adolescent years, specifically ages 17-25. Removal at this age allows for an easier procedure and decreases the risk of any nerve damage.

A root canal is a dental procedure that saves the damaged or dead nerve in the root canal of a tooth. This procedure cleans out the diseased areas and reshapes the entire root canal. The canal is then filled with a rubberlike material, to prevent recontamination of that tooth. After this, the tooth is then permanently sealed with a post and/or a gold or porcelain crown. This enables patients to keep the original tooth.

Dental implants are substitutes for natural tooth roots that rely on the jawbone for support. When well placed, implants can be used to support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a dentures. The cost of implants tends to be greater, but the implants are much more comfortable and more closely resemble real teeth.

With new dental technology, dentures are no longer the only way to restore a patients mouth. With strategically placed implants, permanently placed bridges now eliminate the need for a denture. The cost of implants tends to be greater, but they more closely resemble the feel of real teeth. Dental implants are becoming the alternative choice to dentures, though not everyone is a candidate for implants. We would love to talk with you about best options for your mouth.

Grinding your teeth can be very damaging to the teeth, and difficult to stop. If grinding occurs at night, teeth can be worn down all the way to the gumline, because the instinctive reflex to stop does not work while you are sleeping. Grinding due to stress can only be cured by removing the stress trigger. If grinding continues, a night-time mouth guard may be prescribed to prevent ultimate damage to the teeth.

Ulcers can be very difficult to treat. There is no proven technique that will eliminate ulcers, or speed the recovery time once they appear. Ulcers will generally diminish and disappear in 7-10 days. If pain persists, we are happy to talk with you and create a plan to treat the ulcer.

There is a small disk that separates the jaw bone from the base of the skull. The primary cause of that popping feeling occurs when you open your mouth too wide and the jaw bone pops off of the disk. Treatment is not required unless pain is associated with the pop, or if the jaw locks.

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of material which are bonded to the front of the teeth. This procedure is a great choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth by covering up discolorations, whitening the teeth and even reshaping a smile.

This was my first time at Greenwood Dental. The office is incredibly maintained and clean. The front desk staff was so pleasant. I had my cleaning with Caitlyn and she did an amazing job, I had people pointing out how white and clean my teeth were! I'll definitely be back to do future dental work with them.

Very accessible location, pleasant front door greeting.. Dentist, although was quote remarkable. In dental chair brief amt of time, I had enough time to fix a chip, get scanned for Bute guard and learned a but more dental knowledge. I suffer from dry mouth dt meds. I have been fretting halitosis and chipping teeth. This dentist discussed further hazards such as cavity. We reviewed mouth rinses for dry mouth and alternative through wake time. Then I learned about the scan, how it worked and what the 3d outcome is. I do look forward for further encounter

I don't write reviews but this one I had to. My experience was horrible with the front desk. I regret ever stepping my foot there. I give one star for the doctor who checked on my teeth. She was kind and welcoming.

Dr Slava at Greenwood Dental has been the best dentist I've had. In addition to doing an amazing job with the services I've had (regular cleaning, Invisalign, etc.), the office/clinic is so clean and they're very flexible and accommodating with scheduling appointments. Highly recommend Greenwood Dental! Also they don't try to get you to do any unnecessary treatment like other dentists. I was going to another dentist in Burlington prior to going to Greenwood Dental and they told me I needed all these treatments and spent a good amount of money which was totally unnecessary. With Greenwood Dental, you get a very personalized and pleasant experience!

Everyone in the office is extremely nice, actually. From the moment I booked my appointment to the moment I walked out the door, everything was pleasurable. Dr. Maillet, spent time analyzing my previous dental work and came up with the best solutions, leading to an informed decision on next steps. I admire her being so transparent and caring. I really enjoyed my visit and couldn't recommend visiting enough. I cannot recommend this office more highly.
