Dr. Hansford's goal is to provide the safest and most excellent dental care to patients of all walks of life. As part of his advocacy for patient safety, he lectures and consults internationally, writes and publishes articles on systemic disease, anesthesia, and dentistry, and provides training and certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Fluoride treatments can be very useful for kids who are cavity-prone and have weak enamel. In this procedure, Dr. Jones or Dr. Hansford will apply a thin layer of fluoride-rich gel to your childs teeth after a cleaning & oral exam. This fluoride strengthens and remineralizes the teeth, reversing minor decay and keeping your childs teeth strong. Fluoride treatments are often recommended for kids every 3-6 months, depending on their needs.

Dental sealants are a great option for fighting back against cavities. In this procedure, Dr. Jones or Dr. Hansford will apply a thin layer of clear dental resin to your childs rear teeth. Then, a UV light is used to harden the resin, forming a transparent plastic barrier. This barrier stops bacteria, food particles, and acid from contacting the teeth directly, preventing the formation of cavities for up to 10 years.

SDF is a mixture of silver, ammonia, fluoride, and water thats used as an alternative to fillings for baby teeth. When applied to a cavity, SDF destroys the bacteria and helps strengthen the weakened enamel. This stops the cavity from getting worse, and keeps your childs baby tooth healthy until it falls out naturally. However, SDF does stain the tooth black permanently, which is one of the reasons why its not recommended for permanent teeth.

Oral cancer is very uncommon in kids, but for peace of mind, Dr. Jones and Dr. Hansford will always examine your childs mouth for signs of oral cancer, such as oral sores and lesions, during their teeth cleaning and oral exam. In the rare event that we notice a potential issue at Greenpoint Pediatric Dentistry, your child can get expert help right away.

Kids of all ages can be affected by periodontal (gum) disease, though its rarer in kids than it is in adults. Proper at-home dental hygiene is essential for preventing periodontal care. If your child does have gingivitis (the first stage of gum disease) professional treatment such as a deep cleaning may be required.

In this treatment, Dr. Hansford or Dr. Jones will clean plaque and tartar away from between your childs teeth and gums, and smooth out the roots of their teeth to eliminate bacteria. Along with antibacterial medication or mouth rinses, this is usually enough to reverse gingivitis completely.

At Greenpoint Pediatric Dentistry, we believe that all patients of all abilities and needs deserve healthy, strong smiles. Thats why we focus on providing personalized, caring dentistry in Greenpoint.

The team at Greenpoint Pediatric Dentistry offers caring, personalized dental care for patients with disabilities. We can accommodate patients of all types, including those with physical, developmental, and mental disabilities that may make treatment difficult at other dental offices.

Inclusive dentistry is all about treating each patient as an individual, and accommodating their unique health needs, personal preferences, and requirements to provide expert pediatric dental care. We may require information such as your childs health history and medical records, if applicable. Dr. Hansford will call to discuss patient dispositions and treatment options so that sedation and anesthesia is conducted in the best way possible for your child.

Inclusive dentistry is not a one-size-fits-all approach and requires care from the dentist and dental team that will be treating your child. No two children are ever alike, and this is even more true of children who have physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. Because of this, personalized treatment is of the utmost importance.

At Greenpoint Pediatric Dentistry, we believe everyone deserves excellent dental health and a healthy glowing smile. So, we offer more than just expert pediatric dental care. Our board certified anesthesiologist will enable them to get their dental infections treated without psychological trauma.
