Dental shifting, pain, infection, and more are just a few of the common complications that can arise from untreated wisdom teeth. In fact, complications from wisdom teeth are so common that many dental health professionals recommend their early removal as a preventative measure.

For most people, wisdom teeth will begin to erupt into the dental arch sometime between the ages of 17 and 25. Many patients will find themselves getting their wisdom teeth removed at an earlier age, usually in the early to mid-teen years, as a way of preventing their wisdom teeth from causing oral health complications. Using X-rays and other diagnostic scans, your dentist will monitor the growth and development of your wisdom teeth, and can refer you to an oral surgeon at the appropriate time for their removal.

Dr. Zarrinkelk and Dr. Siavash are highly qualified oral surgeons who perform the full scope of oral surgery procedures at their practices in Ventura and Ojai, CA, including the removal of wisdom teeth. When you come to our practice for your first visit, your oral surgeon will review your medical history, X-rays, and diagnostic scans, as well as complete an oral examination to create your ideal treatment plan. To keep you comfortable throughout your oral surgery procedure, your options for anesthesia will also be discussed. This first visit is also a great time to have your questions and concerns addressed. We are happy to take the time to help you feel at ease and confident with your treatment plan.

Preventative removal of the wisdom teeth is very common. Since problems such as dental crowding, dental shifting, pain, infection, cysts, and other issues associated with untreated wisdom teeth often come with costly and uncomfortable treatment, it is prudent to remove the wisdom teeth before they have the opportunity to cause unnecessary complications. Since wisdom teeth tend to erupt between the ages of 17 and 25, many patients undergoing wisdom teeth removal are in their early to mid-teens. Younger patients tend to heal faster due to their improved natural healing abilities and underdeveloped wisdom teeth, which can lead to a smoother procedure. However, wisdom teeth can be removed at virtually any age.

Many dental health professionals recommend wisdom teeth be removed before they can cause costly and unnecessary oral health complications. While wisdom teeth removal involves an upfront cost, the cost of potential complications from untreated wisdom teeth can quickly add up.

Some patients experience many symptoms before their wisdom teeth come in, and others will hardly experience any at all. Your dentist will monitor the growth and development of your wisdom teeth with X-rays and diagnostic scans during your regular checkups; however, any discomfort, redness, or swelling behind the molars may signal infection or impaction and requires prompt evaluation from a dental health professional. Please notify your dentist if you are experiencing these or any other symptoms that your wisdom teeth may be coming in. Your dentist will be able to evaluate your condition and advise your next steps for treatment.

Every treatment plan is customized to meet a patients unique condition and goals for treatment. As such, the cost of treatment varies from patient to patient. Factors such as number of wisdom teeth to be removed, type of anesthesia used, and insurance coverage will all determine the final cost of treatment.

In general, most people simply do not have enough room to accommodate four extra molars. In fact, lack of space is a common reason why wisdom teeth are prone to causing so many oral health issues. Your dentist will monitor your wisdom teeth with X-rays or other diagnostic scans and can refer you to an oral surgeon if they need to be removed.

Removing wisdom teeth before they have erupted into the dental arch involves surgically cutting into the gum tissue and extracting the tooth, taking care not to disrupt any surrounding teeth, nerves, or other delicate structures. Naturally, this procedure is much more involved and invasive than a simple tooth extraction. An oral surgeon has completed many more years of training and education beyond dental school to be able to safely, effectively, and confidently perform the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures. Oral surgeons are also uniquely qualified to administer anesthesia safely.

It is a good idea to follow a diet of soft foods for the days immediately following your wisdom teeth removal procedure. You will be given specific pre- and post-operative instructions to follow to enhance your recovery and minimize the risk of complications.

I recently had dental implant surgery with Dr. Zarrenkelk. The staff was friendly and professional and the surgery result amazingly efficient and effective. Other than a temporarily missing tooth, it was as if nothing happened. There was no swelling, pain, bleeding, at all. Amazing! I'm sure every case is different, but... And it was right here in Ojai.

Dr. Z, his staff and his team at Greater Ventura Oral & Facial Surgery Dental are truly "experts". I always hesitate to use the term "expert" as it leaves little room for error, but after the many extractions and implants I have undergone, I feel I can confidently say they offer expert care, treatment, billing; it is truly a "tightly run ship" where from all the times I have had to go in there, from top to bottom, all of the personnel who work there are focused, professional, kind and truly seem proud to work as a team. You know you have found a good thing when you ask yourself; "Well, in say ten years if Dr. Z retires and perhaps the business is sold, will I be able to find another team in Ventura that can make the mark like Greater Ventura Oral & Facial Surgery Dental Implant Experts?" Lastly, I must communicate that I rarely take time to fill out these reviews, unless I am truly satisfied with my experiences. I believe this is only the 4th or 5th review I have ever written online.
