The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.
One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.
Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.
Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.

Best orthodontist hands down ! Everyone one there is so welcoming & knowledgeable. But there are 3 individuals I would like to give special shoutouts too. First Destiny, who is great at what she does kept me calm & comfortable during the whole X-ray process. Then Ms.Veronica who is also a wonderful treatment coordinator, was so nice & knowledgeable about the whole treatment plan process & talked me through everything I needed to know . And Also Dr.Mehr was very straightforward with me about my treatment she warned me of the good & the bad without cutting any corners. I'm looking forward to having my treatment process with Greater Houston Orthodontist. If You're Looking For Ortho treatment in Houston, I highly recommend!

Someone referred me to Greater Houston and I have been going for a couple years and I love it. The office is always clean which was a major bonus during covid. The staff is phenomenal from beginning to end! The receptionist offer you great smiles, a complimentary beverage, and A1 service when booking your appointments. The dental assistants work very well together as a team and make the visits very time efficient and also comfortable! Alan is my favorite, when you go tell him I said hi! The doctors are top tier! They offer a lot of guidance and knowledge! Although my braces journey is very close to being over I will never forget the lasting impression this office has made. They even give you a treat once you get your braces removed!

Today I had a consultation at Greater Houston Orthodontics and everything was amazing. From the minute I walked in the door to my interactions with Veronica and Dr. Mehr everything was amazing. Dr. Mehr took her time to explain my needs and my concerns and Veronica made sure I fully understood the process. The staff was friendly and professional and the office was comfortable and inviting. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

My daughter was getting braces today and was really nervous, the friendly staff at GHO helped her feel at ease and were very patient and informative when explaining to her how to care for her teeth. She left with a smile on her face and said she was looking forward to getting her treatment done at GHO!!!!

Having a teenager with sensory issues can be difficult when looking for dental care providers. Dr. Mehr and the staff at Greater Houston Orthodontics made my son's experience pleasant, easy, and his teeth look amazing. He wore braces for 2 years and throughout the process scheduling was simple for routine appointments or small repairs. Dr. Mehr and her team were always calm, caring, answered all of our questions and helped him with any concerns. His smile and teeth are perfect! The entire staff from office management, receptionists, dental technicians, and Dr. Mehr herself made us feel welcome from the first visit until the day his braces were removed through the retainer and post braces process.
